In a large company, I'd totally agree. It's easy for your manager, or co-worker to spend most of his/her time touting your success as their own. Most of the time, in a big business, they get noticed by other poor managers and then get promoted.I disagree when talking about smaller companies. You do get noticed for your hard work and results. Sadly, because you're at a small company... there's not much ladder climbing to be done. So... you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Guess the best way to fix the problem is gaining some social/political skills and selling yourself WHILE working hard. :)
Your so-called "troublemakers" are going to rule the world soon. And the world will be a much better place because of it. We need problem solvers, question askers, critical thinkers. We need people to be level-headed and agree that agreeing to disagree is progress. Common sense and civility will take over eventually.
Every point in the article was on point except for the "snake oil" bit. The promise of a better quality of life is big business but claiming all of it is a scam is misleading. Many herbs have scientifically proven medicinal properties, and don't cause fun side effects such as anal leakage and compulsive gambling. However, nature can't be patented, and it's much more profitable for companies to design a compound only they have the rights to and then market that (pharmaceuticals). The supplement industry isn't very regulated, of course, so there are a lot of low-grade products that are a waste of money and won't be very potent. The quality of an herbal supplement depends on how it was grown, cultivated, what parts are used, how long it has been on the shelf, and what, if any, additives and filler ingredients were added. They are ridiculously easy to grow and much more potent when fresh. Some examples of very effective herbs:Ginger - extremely effective (more than drugs) for an upset stomach and nausea/vomiting, and won't cause anyone to have their limbs amputated like Promethazine can. May be good against cancer.Capsaicin - found in hot peppers, causes cancer cells to kill themselves off. Some emergency room doctors claim that if cayenne pepper is given to someone having a heart attack, it stops the heart attack. May or may not be true, but it warrants more research. Cayenne pepper is good for blood pressure, sore throats, wounds, energy levels, ulcers, and circulation.Oil of Oregano - powerfully antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic. Strengthens the immune system. Some companies are trying to replicate the compounds to patent, since conventional antibiotics are becoming useless due to resistance.Turmeric - Powerful anti-inflammatory, good for arthritis and carpal tunnel. Been shown in various studies to fight many types of cancer and even boosts the effects of chemo while reducing its side effects. Research suggests benefits against MS, Alzheimer's, infections, wound healing, skin conditions, metabolism, depression, multiple myeloma, and liver detoxification.Sage - Beneficial for diabetics by boosting insulin's effectiveness.Medicinal Mushrooms - Great for immune function, cancer, antioxidants, anti-microbial, cardiovascular and organ health, brain activity and clarity, energy and strength, and soups. Not to mention the impressive range of uses for apple cider vinegar, olive oil (cures sunburn completely! <3), garlic, cayenne pepper, and even baking soda. I've saved considerable sums of money and time not spent waiting on a doctor by nipping ailments in the bud at home before they become more serious problems. There is no reason Eastern and Western medicine cannot complement each other. There are plenty of conventional drugs that derived from plants, such as aspirin from willow bark, and penicillin and statin drugs from fungus. Why is it so hard to believe plants have nutritional benefit? Fruits, beans, and vegetables are packed with nutrients. Herbs have potent concentrations of compounds, which make them useful as flavoring in cooking. They taste good to humans for a reason, they are beneficial to our bodies.

Agreed. This one's a close second, though:<a class="user" href="http://www.cracked.com/article_15231_7-reasons-21st-century-making-you-miserable.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.cracked.com/article_15231_7-reasons-21s ...</a>

Funny, because as far as I can tell most of the people in the PUA community are far, far from being 'men'.
