While it's not a joke, I can grin and get appreciation from it while understanding its meaning. I consider my self a *very new* Buddhist and when I first started into it, my supposed enlightenment hurt me - not nearly to the extent of this story, but still... I am going slower now. Despite my pain, the story does make me smile a bit, while the young man would likely feel some pain at his disillusionment and embarrassment.
Yes, I program. That is not exactly what I meant though, the only difference I would say, is that a computer pointer points to an exact location in the computers memory, with words things can be just as exact but also be fuzzy. The fuzziness is what results in people asking questions or causes people to come up with different meanings for the same words. The computer can have that fuzziness through higher constructs but the basic pointer is exact.
your comments show your true wisdom. when we say nothing exists , we forget that there is some one who is knowing that. with out his knowing , it cannot be said that nothing exists. so that knower should always exist. if nothing exists there is no need of pointers. nothing is required to point at nothingness. and the knower cannot be pointed by himself for there is no need of it. because i always know that i exist and i am the knower.
