engadget.com — the waterproofing is on the inside this time kids. That's right, SWIMMAN has turned an honest-to-goodness second generation iPod shuffle into a "100% waterproof" player capable of operation in waters up to 10 feet deep.

If you are at the ocean, One word. Salt. Provided you go swimming with the ocean fishes.(damn you for changing your comment)

Anyone wonder if the shuffle is already waterproof to ten foot? I have a flash drive that has been to the bottom of the ocean (100' ) with me (accidentally) and it works just fine. Just wondering are they modifying it? That would be the ultimate scam!Jahue

For the "little additional cost", how many people use their iPod under-water? £0.01 extra for every single device made adds up quickly. Since it's such a small number of who'd use it underwater, water-proofing it in other ways (Like cases, sealable plastic bags, etc) makes more sense..- Ben

I know the principles of circuitry and I have had to clean laptops that had spills on them ( the worst slushy ) while on, but its possible that a low voltage battery would not do much harm if any. And no the flash drive wasn't powered or plugged in.

Water proof my ass. More like Water Resist. 10ft does not anything water proof make:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark

@themacthinker:Seeing as think is in your name, think before you post. Why did you spam your (ugly as f**k-- Engraving? what the f**k were you thinking?) blog on digg? Because of doing such a stupid thing, I now have to go spam your blog. See you in a few minutes.

"You can't scuba with it, but it'll clip onto the back of your googles just fine if you're a swimmer." Wonder if actually meant goggles?

The thing itself is waterproof. Say it falls off and goes down down down down...you get it and it is fine. waterproof. It's the headphones that don't go under 10 ft or so. Mother nature just pinches them, dig? you come up a bit, they un-pinch, life is swell. it's a nature thing. as for the waterproofing, it's fine even way down where the sun don't shine.and if you don't believe me that's where you can put it.oooh.and if you scuba, you shouldn't be listening to music anyway. so you can hear the jaws theme. right? right.
