And this professional fighter should NOT have gotten involved with something that has nothing to do with him. He could have defended her but he didn't. Girls easily throw drinks on guys for no good reason, simply asking for a dance while they're drunk and pmsey. But definitely cold c**king a girl from behind is a pure bitch move and he should've gotten his ass beat right then and there.
Unfortunately, like someone mentioned before, there was too much time and setup for the fight later to be said he was defending the girl. That was revenge, vigilante justice. The stomp at the head at the end will definitely get him in trouble.
If you want to beat the guys ass for hitting a girl, you have to get to it immediately so you can at least claim you were trying to keep him from continuously hitting her. Big guy knocked her out and was already away/pulled back before the new fight started, won't count as defense of others since the assault on the girl was clearly over. Yeah it sucks.

Huerta simply approached him and told him "You just hit a girl"...then the guy took the first punch at him, and he defended himself from that point forward. There's definitely angles to shoot where he is cleared of any charges.

I think when you take off your shirt and run at a guy, it's a sign you are about to attack, but the fact that the other guy swung first means he was compliant in this fight, so I don't think either would win a lawsuit.

Well, Roger didn't run at the guy. At the start he clearly and calmly walked up to the guy and was like "you just hit a girl", and then you hear his friend yelling "ROGER! ROGER!" and the camera isnt aimed at anything and it pans back and they both have their shirts off and nobody swings, rogers friend pulls him back and some other guy jumps on the lady-puncher.

And when he was on his feet, he had a chance to defend himself? Yeah right. He might as well have had his hands tied the whole time. And we have to judge Huerta's conduct with this in mind: whether he was right or wrong, he was most certainly beating a defenseless man from the very beginning.
That said, I'm not going to express an opinion here on whether Huerta was in the right or not, because I can't watch the video at the moment.

Con Air is obviously another stupid story, but being trained in some type of combat will definitely weigh heavier on your verdict when you accidentally kill a guy in a bar fight.

I don't know how this myth got so prevalent, but your fists are not considered lethal weapons in a street fight regardless of your martial arts background.
Stomping when someone is down? THAT is considered a lethal weapon. You cannot kick someone when they're down, because that actually has a real threat of killing someone.
So yes, he could get charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but it has nothing to do with his martial arts expertise.

MMA training is not a "lethal weapon". The law is applied based on whether an average person would have responded in a similar way (in this case beating up a guy that just sucker punched a woman). That said, the head stomp at the end probably wasn't the best thing to do considering the guy was already laid out.

The only fight I ever got into in college was when I saw a guy hit a girl, he was about twice my size and I was well inebriated, but I ran up and cleaned his clock with one good punch (it broke my hand)... then after he got up off the ground and shook it off, he beat the ever living s**t out of me.
I would still probably do it again knowing the outcome, hitting women just is not right.

Sam Stout talked about this on the radio once. He could lose his ability to travel and get his license from an athletic commission. So no matter how many times he gets challenged, he always does the right thing and waits for authorities to do their thing.

watching this from my phone, it was VERY difficult to see the actual start of the fight. It looked to me like they were having words, and then all sorts of camera movement and crowd shots, then dude on the ground bloody. I'll have to watch it again on a bigger screen when I get home, but the guy who hit the girl could have thrown a punch at him off camera, and he was just defending himself. Personally I think if you sucker punch a woman, you deserve any level of ass beating you receive.

I work with someone who fights MMA (the small time local leagues or whatever.. trying to go pro as well) and you're absolutely right.. the most quiet, peaceful guy you'd ever meet.. really really nice (so nice that you almost get that feeling like people will take advantage of him) then it turns out he's a very very good MMA fighter.... it's probably because to be at all successful at MMA you have to have very good focus and be very dedicated... this takes a certain kind of person to begin with. You can't be c**ky or over confident... you'll see the c**ky ones get dropped first

The simple fact is: men have physical advantages. It makes him a real pussy if he hits a woman, since that's obviously not a fair situation. If a man needs to defend himself against a women, I'd say it's a matter of applying only the necessary force to neutralize the situation. The only exception would be if she is stubborn and won't stop (as seen in most cheesy horror movies).

But yes, I would knock a girl out if she was trying to hurt me. I'm an amateur boxer - I spar with girls frequently. I don't fight at full strength, only because they are less than 2/3 my weight, not because they're women. They are plenty capable of hitting hard.

The cops came, and believe it or not, they figured out that I was telling the truth. But instead of taking her away or citing her for making a bogus 911 call, they just told her to leave me alone and let me get on with my life.

I think the not hitting women rule is because women are "generally" smaller and weaker. It's about not abusing someone who has no chance, like fighting a kid.
But everyone should have a right to defend themselves against a threat to their lives. If you're a 5'2" dude and Cynthia Rothrock or Laila Ali are drunk and decide to beat you down, you had better fight back or you might die, lol.
So in general, I think it's about stature and abilities. If some little dude that you can beat attacks you, you don't get to beat him to a silly pulp either, just enough to end the situation, same as a girl. A hit may not even be necessary if you're that much stronger.
But against someone that can seriously hurt you, whether male or female, defend yourself. You wouldn't want to end up dead over made up social morals.

Doing it barefoot in the ring with all the doctors ringside is a whole different reality to on the street. I've seen this kind of thing happen all the time in south London, most people don't understand that there's a reasonable chance of it being lethal, especially when done on concrete.
