Considering this team was not good enough to be in the tournament and should not have been in the tournament, is it really a surprise?
apocadallJul 7, 2010
What the hell happened to you France, you used to be cool. One of the major players and bad asses of the world.
representdlvJul 7, 2010
They were bad asses when Napoleon was in charge. That was the last time. That was 200 years ago.
apocadallJul 7, 2010
Yeah because carving out your own country between two super powers is such an easy thing to do. France was a bad ass country before Napoleon, and were a great help during the American Revolution.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Rioted like muslim teens? Or surrender?
thubanJul 7, 2010
...But even I who like, and admire the French must admit they're a ridiculous people. The same people who will water down their Burgundy for modest few Franc's profit will willingly spend millions on contaminating the Pacific so they may be thought of as the technological rivals of the Americans. They see themselves as a plucky David to the American Goliath. Unfortunately the rest of the world views them as an Ant crawling up a cow's leg assuring her he will be gentle...
lestrategeJul 7, 2010
Well, as Jose Bove once said, "If we are David and you're Goliath, this means we'll win".
rwhittak3Jul 7, 2010
This article sucked.
wiseguy1020Jul 7, 2010
My beef is the authors use of the University of Miami Hurricane football team as an example of " collapse in such delicious fashion on the world stage."
I'm not proud of their antics (that, cocaine, and Elian ruined our national reputation) but those teams kicked other teams asses, won multiple national championships. Thats why they COULD all wear camo and do stupid s**t. I wouldn't compare them to the Cubs which can't win a title even if their lives depend on it.
Just sayin'.
lestrategeJul 7, 2010
Obviously this guy didn't yet follow the World Cup in 2002. How American...

But I am Le Tired.

The references to the French and their "blood of Napoleon" are cute: Napoleon was of Italian descent and spoke French with a heavy Corsican accent his whole life.
But I greatly enjoyed the quote "people drank themselves retarded," and I cannot wait to use that in everyday speech.
fullvinylJul 7, 2010
I'm glad someone else noted that as well; that the most dominant figure in French military history wasn't even French.
rudegarJul 7, 2010
is that not Asterix & Obelix ?
they are surely > Napoleon
fullvinylJul 7, 2010
Actually, you're probably right, though now I think about it, the most dominant figure in French military history was Hitler. Oops.
maccawaccaJul 7, 2010
Awful article.. It's hard to believe people get paid to write this drivel. One thing especially grabbed my attention
'.. as awful as French music'... France has some of the best music in the world. France is held in high esteem in the music art and film industries. I bet the journalist couldn't name 3 popular French musicians from the past decade.

Werd. This is f**king dreadful writing, even for an alleged "humor" piece.

Daft Punk

Emilie Simon
Manu Chao
Seb Tellier
Saian Super Crew
I could list more but they are all leaders in their genres. And that's only recent artists

"Va te faire enculer" is very anatomically possible.

Je vous emmerde!... With love from France... xx
appleseed1234Jul 7, 2010
Napoleon wasn't French, I stopped reading when he stated otherwise.
representdlvJul 7, 2010
He was from Corsica. Which was part of France (still is). Then he became the emperor of France. Napoleon was French.
appleseed1234Jul 7, 2010
Birth Name? Napoleone di Buonaparte
Born on Corsica one year after the Genoans handed it over. Into an Italian family.
Hes as Italian as they get.
representdlvJul 7, 2010
While his family was Italian, he was born in France. He is french. Doesn't matter if it was 1 year after the Genoans handed it over or 100 years. He was born within the borders of what is considered France. That makes him French. Just because he has an Italian name doesn't make him Italian. My last name is Norwegian, but I am American. I was born in the USA. Napoleon is of Italian decent, but legally French. He is far from "as italian as they get".
causalitymemeJul 7, 2010
Hes? His? Has! A Sammwich!
appleseed1234Jul 7, 2010
"What you should never forget is that the blood of Napoleon runs through these people."
I was pointing out how stupid it was to suggest the blood of an ethnic Italian runs through the French. I don't give a damn about the legal status that wasn't the point. Troll harder.
representdlvJul 7, 2010
I'm trolling? Ha.
funklorJul 7, 2010
*DISCLAIMER* I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I'm just curious.
Why is France's football team almost entirely black? It just seems like an oddity considering demographics.
milkmageJul 7, 2010
never been to France, have you?
LOTS of Africans. probably has to do with that whole occupation of Algeria thing....
funklorJul 7, 2010
Of course there are black people in France. And Alergia = Berber/Arab.
It just seems odd that < 5% of the population comprise 100% of the team. And again, there's nothing wrong with it. But you have to be living in denial if you don't think there's some sort of disconnect.
hu99Jul 7, 2010
The team is almost entirely black because very few real Frenchmen can play football very well.
funklorJul 7, 2010
Evidently the "non-real" (sic) Frenchmen don't play very well either.
milkmageJul 7, 2010
"So how are people taking to what happened in the World Cup?" I ask the shuttle driver from Charles de Gaulle Airport.
"The Louvre is a very nice museum," he answers.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The article is like the comments (the comment on Los Angeles Time below the article): full of garbage, spams. It got what it deserves.
