the article wants to discredit a possible cure for HIV/AIDS because it's really expensive, takes a long time, and only the rich can afford it? isn't that how almost everything starts out? idiot. if a possible cure is actually working then people can work on having fewer steps and then cheaper steps to the cure. i mean look at the genome project, started at costs in the millions and is now almost down to $5,000 in just 10 years.

The problem is that the author is an American who has to pay for everything himself. This is not a problem outside USA.

I’m not sure where this article was going or trying to achieve other than popular science. Popular science is not science. It’s either sci-fi extrapolated visions or confirmation of predetermined beliefs.
The bad thing about science news is that what is news to most people is of little consequence to scientists and what is news and consequential to scientists is of little note to most people. Global warming comes to mind.
I agree with the post that little happen this year, but there is just as good a chance that some discovery this year will have a major impact on everybody’s future. Science will do that to you.
Another big on-going, non-discovery this year going unmentioned even in this post was the lack of any major discoveries from mapping the human genome. Big story 2000, for sure 2003, and what did we get? Again this year, nothing – or nothing “news” worthy.

I must admit, I was really, REALLY hoping NASA would say they found alien microbes or something. But the reality was still pretty amazing, stuff with arsenic in its DNA and all that.
