Their knack for self loathing astounds me.

I'm soooo not interested in hate

When is Eric Cartman going to refocus his energy on destroying hipsters? I think the number of hippies is already dwindling thanks to his noble efforts.
wondertwinsSep 10, 2010
Hipsters =/= Hippies
brockatkinsonSep 10, 2010
Hipsters are, in a form, the modern-day hippies. During the 60's, hippies were a rebellion against the wars and structure of society. Modern-day hipsters are a rebellion against large corporations, and a vast array of other things (against eating meat products, against driving cars etc).
However, the one thing they don't seem to understand is that exactly what they're trying to avoid, they're buying themselves into, with their $300+ designer sunglasses and clothes.
wondertwinsSep 10, 2010
You're entire comment was contradictory.
roo00Sep 10, 2010
That fact that their behaviour is contradictory and hypocritical was kind of his point. Sort of like the irony generated by pro communist/socialist individuals who wear and PURCHASE (as in: the participation in capitalism) Che Guevara T-shirts.

Wondertwins, I didn't imply they were the same. Read again.

The fire in Boulder is taking them out pretty quickly. Give it time... "Mother Earth" is going to burn them out.

nobody hates digg more than diggers
braveandsilentSep 9, 2010
Oh, the dichotomy of hipsterdom-- Enough self-loathing to put yourself in a box with a bunch of idiots, coupled with enough ego to tell you you're too good for the box, and that everybody else in the box is only there because you were there first. Never enough balls to get out of the damn box, though.
JoystickDivSep 9, 2010
The skinny jeans forces the self-loathing out.
jeexbitSep 10, 2010
What the f**k is a hipster?
smotpokerSep 10, 2010
As far as I can tell, it seems to be anyone who strives for individuality and tries to avoid supporting megacorporations most of the time. However, the definition varies so much that the term is effectively meaningless. Everyone projects their own pet-peeves that don't fit into other labels into the definition.
Ergo, a hipster is a person who typically does something you find stupid/elitist/annoying but doesn't fit neatly into the other 5000 labels.
xtombronxSep 10, 2010
I'm not surprised. I mean, if I was an ironic hipster, then I wouldn't want other ironic hipster with their ironic facial hair making me seem like I'm mainstream or something.

I hate hipsters more than hipsters hate themselves.
buttleSep 10, 2010
They don't hate hipsters. They just hate the term. And of course hipsters don't want to be classified by one lowly slightly demeaning term.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
