There is conclusive proof that THC and endocannabanoids actually kill cancer cells , but Big Pharma still fights to keep it illegal. Could it be because they wouldn't be able to patent it?
Abraxas87Jan 21, 2012
or the graviola tree. http://www.rain-tree.com/graviola.htm
busterblackJan 21, 2012
That's definitely part of the reason. But, it also has to do with doctors being liable for any negative side effects experience by the patient. Besides, if THC were to be legalized for medical use, it wouldn't be produced in a form just by itself.
th4gr8cornholioJan 21, 2012
"Besides, if THC were to be legalized for medical use, it wouldn't be produced in a form just by itself."
Hello? Marinol?
mtownJan 22, 2012
I don't understand what you mean. What negative side effects would there be?
igorunchainedJan 22, 2012
and when are doctors responsible for the side effects of the drugs they prescribe? Enough doctors being sued for creating a country of oxy-zombies and ritilin kids would probably be more inclined to prescribe marijuana for pain or attention deficit.
whacklyJan 21, 2012
it also has to do with the fact that some chemicals in pot are anti cancer and others are powerful carcinogens. administering the cause and the cure together is counter-productive in most cases. isolating the positive effects is valuable to medicine, and thus to all of us. claiming that toking up will cure cancer isn't. it should be legal but for reasons that are logical and scientifically proven, not because of spacestar ordering and wishy thinking.
4Herp2Derp0Jan 21, 2012
There are no carcinogens in marijuana. The carcinogens you speak of are a product of the combustion of dried plant matter.
No, smoking marijuana will not cure cancer but it will reduce your chance of cancer. Only super concentrated cannabinoids can kill cancer.
whacklyJan 21, 2012
you don't know that. scientists don't either. there is some evidence that some of what you said is true but double blind clinical trials and peer reviewed publications on the subject are not yet conclusive. and yes, there are carcinogens in marijuana. there are carcinogens in everything, whether you burn it or not. there are carcinogens in apples and a there is a great deal of carcinogens in the logic of the majority of legalization supporters.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
th4gr8cornholioJan 21, 2012
I see how you got your name, as you do seem to be a whacko. There are carcinogens in everything? I think your grip on reality is slipping!
whacklyJan 22, 2012
there are carcinogens in everything. apples. celery. dust. soil. tapwater. communion wafers. your own skin. did you ever take a chemistry class?
th4gr8cornholioJan 22, 2012
I took lots of chemistry. I took 4 quarters of it in college. What is your point?
Does pure water contain carcinogens?
Please name one carcinogen in the cannabis plant, Mr. Scientist.
tehnoobifierJan 21, 2012
Naturally occurring plant chemicals cannot be patented, so they have to synthesize THC and other natural chemicals found in marijuana in order to create new (and un-natural) chemicals that can be patented.
woktosserJan 22, 2012
The Big Three have already succeeded in discouraging the general public from realizing the natural cancer fighting properties in many fruits and vegetables:

vitriolandangstJan 21, 2012
Isn't this the LAST excuse for restricting Marijuana? It's not like someone can get relaxed to death.
linageeJan 21, 2012
An extreme overdose of almost any pain killer will relax you to death.
vitriolandangstJan 21, 2012
Did I HAVE to say I was talking about Marijuana?
You are not Captain Obvious today, but you get a merit badge...
;-)
... just kidding --- I realize I should have stated that some pain killers and muscle relaxers CAN relax you to death. Marijuana by comparison, can only put someone into a mellow stupor.
ka5p3rJan 21, 2012
hot damn,i will never have cancer.
EnnovateJan 21, 2012
ya its fact that marijuana kills cancer and it is proved
vitriolandangstJan 21, 2012
some people went ahead and conducted their own experiments before the results were in -- and they were not wearing lab coats!
whacklyJan 21, 2012
strong evidence requiring further study, double blind clinical trial, refinement, and isolation does not equal proof. it's likely some excellent good will come of it all, especially if the source plant were as legal as it should be, but overstating the case just makes the orator look stupid.
dougnic55Jan 21, 2012
so why is it still illegal...could that be the alcohol beverage industry...
4Herp2Derp0Jan 21, 2012
And the tobacco, pharma, timber, cotton, oil, private prison, and corn industries.
seidnuJan 22, 2012
privatized prisons are bad the entire way they operate is wrong i have heard they make a million dollars per year per prisoner and alot of them are non violent drug offenders.
th4gr8cornholioJan 21, 2012
True, the alcoholic beverage industry does lobby to keep cannabis illegal (because they obviously don't want competition from a less harmful intoxicant), but they are only one small piece of the puzzle. There are many industries that do not want the competition!
seidnuJan 22, 2012
The alcohol industry has some to do with it but not as much as our own government and groups like the CIA. The CIA is not funded by the U.S. government they have to make their own funding. Look it up The CIA was responsible for alot of the cocaine that came to this country during Reagans presidency. plus once its here the government profits when they throw non violent offenders in prison. Then you have to look into privatized prisons these are companies that build prisons then they fill these prisons with more people then what they can hold all on the basis of making money based on occupancy. If it was legal to posses marijuana they would be out billions of dollars

This is fascinating! I have a personal interest in this because cancer runs in my family and I smoke.
Now, I used to also smoke cigarettes regularly for several years, finally quitting just over two years ago (awesome right?!?!?!), and I wonder if there is data on the ratio of cancer rates among cannabus smokers that also smoke tobacco. Of all total smokers, do cannabus smokers who also smoke cigarettes have a lower rate of cancer than those who just smoke cigarettes?
goweigusJan 21, 2012
cannabis smokers**(those who don't also smoke tobacco) have no increased risk of cancer. This was concluded by multiple US Government studies since the 60s
Think of how much healthier it would have been/beneficial if they had vaporized instead of smoked.*if smoking it wont even get you cancer, think how healthy vaporizing must be
joetexfaceoffJan 21, 2012
cool thanks, but what about those who smoke both....do they have a lower cancer rate than those who just smoke cigarettes?
goweigusJan 21, 2012
Absolutely yes, but why smoke tobacco and cannabis?
One makes you feel like s**t, makes your body s**t, and is $$$
The other is the opposite
joetexfaceoffJan 21, 2012
hahaha agreed, I was just curious!
goweigusJan 21, 2012
sry that was a tease, I don't think anyone should smoke anything (vaporize!). Smoking tobacco is any adults right as is putting anything in their body that doesnt harm others.
tumultuoustJan 21, 2012
Depending on the strain you smoke cannabis can make you feel the same way too, I'm saying this as I'm rolling this Sour and typing with one hand ;)
nik420Jan 22, 2012
I forget where I saw it, maybe someone can find the study...but there was a study I read about that showed smoking cannabis may actually reduce a tobacco smoker's risk of cancer.
From personal experience, when I was a tobacco smoker, I would feel a heavy weight of phlegm build up in my lungs from smoking, or whatever that crap is that holds the tar in your lungs. Smoking Marijuana always helped loosen up this tobacco phlegm and force me to cough it up. There was a lot of coughing, but my lungs would feel awesome afterwards, and I could breathe clear. Obviously this is just anecdotal and not something I can prove, but it would seem that getting that tar filed phleghm out of my lungs would help lessen cancer development...at least for me.
fetyMar 31, 2012
You're on to something... the fact is smoking Cannabis results in bronchiodilation.

I am curious how much of this information is legitimate. Unfortunately the video has the tone of one of those sensational air flight disaster investigations that often take a lot of liberty with the truth and present any wackos views as if they are astounding.
Hopefully this isn't the case as a naturally occurring chemical that actually works well with natural human body systems would be a wonder drug. It doesn't help explain some of the harmful manifestations of marijuana use such as it's prevalence in "ghetto" cultures but that could be a side effect of it's legal status.
Ps. I actuall live in a household with 3 full time stoners although I do not smoke myself. I actually see the cultural aspects as being much more problematic than any health issues. Although the morning stoner's hacking cough doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the health aspects either.
goweigusJan 21, 2012
Its been a wonder drug since it was discovered over 10,000 years ago. We're only proving just how wonderful it is now with modern science.
Its insane how much money gets poured into keeping it illegal/asecret.
myztryJan 21, 2012
I think people tend to smoke for the psychological effects rather than any health benefit, real or not.
My guess is that marijuana is going to share the same issues as pharmaceutical drugs that effect natural system. There are always side effects.
You can't simple add foreign stimulants to a system so amazingly complex as the human body without throwing something else out of balance.
With any luck the bad things that manifest around marijuana cultures are only artefacts of inappropriate laws and not deeper issues resulting from messing with fundamental body systems using whim based dosages.
goweigusJan 21, 2012
Well as hard as we both imagine they must have tried to prove it was bad for humans, they haven't! I admit SMOKING it does minor damage to the lungs as any hot smoke would, but the benefits from THC and CBD and other cannabinoids compensate.
Look up the cannabinoids system of the human brain friend great read
goweigusJan 21, 2012
Endocannabinoid system* many supposed side effects are caused by prohibition (the fear related to it being illegal)
myztryJan 21, 2012
Part of it certainly. I live with 3 full time stoners and unfortunately in order to "hook up" they rely on going to "the west".
This is a suburb of the less well to do (for various reaons) where the main supply tends to come out of.
It is a suburb based around a Australian Government community housing project. Some of the people are simply mis-fortunate but are lot are those just destined to fail. A cluster of the f**k ups within the population.
This naturally ads a stigma to what should just be the recreational use of a plant. It puts forth a such and egg question. Do f**k ups tender to cluster and become dependant, or do the dependant tend to become the f**k ups?
razorsfuryJan 21, 2012
Wouldn't say its the hot smoke as it is the resin that builds from smoking. Much like the tar that accumulates with cigarettes.
myztryJan 21, 2012
cannabinoids act as a signalling system. It doesn't mean it is healthy to swamp your body with them at random times even if SOME of the effects are positive.
Adrenaline is also vital to the body's systems but you wouldn't want to be on the end of a constant feed drip...
Smoking at whim completely ignores the cues that are meant to be involved.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
fetyMar 31, 2012
The Cannabinoids are not "foreign stimulants" to our bodies. We actually have endocannabinoid receptors and our body produces a chemical that is like cannabinoids. Google&Youtube: Endocannabinoid system
goddess1019Jan 21, 2012
You dont have to take this video as the only source of your information. Do a quick search on ERIC and you will find hundreds of thousands of scholarly peer reviewed articles that attest to the benefits of the drug. Stop taking so called "wacko's" word for it, and learn something.
myztryJan 21, 2012
Hey, I'm just curious as the effects don't pertain to me. I'm not that curious as to be delving through peer reviewed articles.
I've been through the teen dope smoking stage. Problem is the smell reminds me of smouldering lawn clippings which repulsive. I don't find the perceivable effects all that worthy either. It's just not for me even though I have 3 stoners in my household and have no issue with that.
Whatever the overall facts me be, the sensationalist TV-tabloid style presentations and the aggressive biased half truths of many marijuana smokers who care about little more than getting stoned regardless doesn't do the public perception any good.

When it killed cancerous cells, does it also kill the rest of the other cells too?
goddess1019Jan 21, 2012
if it did, how different would it be from chemo? Only people who smoke pot dont lose their hair/fingernails
4Herp2Derp0Jan 21, 2012
No it does not. Our bodies are designed to accept this plant in a very natural and safe manner. Marijuana, even in high concentrations, does not harm healthy cells.
ophelloJan 22, 2012
Why would that be news? Bleach kills cancer cells, too. But that's not news because it kills everything.
Not too bright, are ya...
MoonPilotJan 21, 2012
Cyanide also kills cancer cells.
ano233Jan 21, 2012
Actually Cyanide, Arsenic and other "poisons" are used under limited circumstances in medicine. In cyanides case its used as an vasodilator. Arsenic is actually used in battling some forms of cancer. They are just used in very small dosages.

So does radiation.... that sure as heck is not as safe as MJ
4Herp2Derp0Jan 21, 2012
I love when people compare something highly toxic to humans to something non-toxic to humans.
Not all things are equal when it comes to toxic vs. non-toxic.
secretmedicJan 21, 2012
Marijuana was widely used in ancient medicines but due to wide range of abuse it is not used now a days , but still used in some rural areas in India as local medicine
Now if you need scientific explanation it is also available but main reason it is not used in advanced medicine , it is due its side effects.
No wonder if it kills cancer cell ? poison also kills cancer cells ?
also there are other means by which Cancer cells are killed ........but it also affects normal cells so don't get excited.

the whole second half of your comment makes no sense what so ever... chemo kills cancer cells, but it also kills normal cells, also has life threattening side effects... and yet I dont see you arguing against that.
I could show you many examples of people who have died FROM their conventional treatments not the cancer itself..... show me ONE person who has died from smoking MJ.
ophelloJan 22, 2012
Why do you trust your government to make medicine that helps you yet costs nothing and cannot be patented? Weed is illegal because of corrupt laws.

WHAT?? You need to read up on why Marijuana was made illegal.
