much better pictures there
dodger2020Feb 15, 2011
there are more pictures there but not necessarily better since that's where the main photo from space.com is from.

You do realize that space.com is sourcing from official NASA page - which he links above.
dodger2020Feb 15, 2011
You do realize that is exactly what I typed?

Great photo series. Most interesting is how quickly it went by. The entire sequence covers two minutes, Start at bottom and scroll up.
specimen7Feb 15, 2011
Why don't people post the direct source? Shouldn't have to rely on comments for someone like branned to post the real images.

Based on the timestamps from nasa's website. Either the comet or the craft or both were going at some speed.
ALL pictures were taken within like a minute.. Pewwwwwwww
taiyoryuFeb 15, 2011
Rotation of the comet appears to be rapid as well.

This is why I like NASA.

Looks like a prime real estate and awesome spot for me to build a home there in the future!
A couple of observation domes on the surface... some tunnels through the comet, hollowed by self replicating-nanobots... a few fusion generators to keep warm and toasty. Lots of big screen displays for endless videogaming to pass the time...
Hmm.... might get a little bit lonely however... unless of course I can convince a couple of ladies to join me in this weightless rock in space... Um... On second thought I think I'll stay where the chicks are: Earth!

Ya, I logged in to JPL last night around 11:59pm to watch the pix
being downloaded, http://www.ustream.tv/user/NASAJPL2
space craft wouldn't cough them up. I quit around 2a.m. I think
the rest left as well as it was going to be 6 more hours.
There were 1300 viewing at the peak around 1:30 am (oddly enough) but only a few of us logged in to chat with JPL.
They were trying to download a 5 pix sample but having problems.
300034 is suppose to be the first Pix and 300038 the second and
closest approach. the other 76 are to be of the spacecraft speeding away from the comet.
JPL turn us on the the valentine message from them

which could be a Digg link of it's own, if it isn't already.
Do check out http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/eyes/
you need to install the Unity player. Shows the Stardust NExT
call it 400000 miles away from Tempel 1 and speeding on to orbit
the sun forever. You can swing around and see the Sun and the planets,Just too neat.
