And now here is some wisdom from random youtube user jesse11345. "look even if we dont which sum of us do i agree with u just cuz people right stuff on the net"
We can all learn from this timeless wisdom.
oboyDec 30, 2010
I guess we should just stop eating food and find an alternative.
njdoo7Dec 30, 2010
Or stop consuming genetically modified food, of which the long term health effects have not been studied before approval for consumption. The same GMO that a lot of scientists and researchers propose is linked to increased food allergies.
Almost everything in stores has GMO foods or compounds made from GMO foods in them. The best example is high fructose corn syrup (85% of corn in america is GMO).
harshbarjDec 30, 2010
This is the first I have heard of any link between GMO and allergies. Every independent study I have seen show the food is just as safe and non-GMO food.
Also the link you provided below is almost entirely by pro-organic groups who would say anything to get people to go organic. Most people, myself included, would need a study by an independent group that did not receive funding from either pro-organic or pro-GMO groups or companies.
njdoo7Dec 30, 2010
From the article I sourced:
"An editorial in the respected American scientific monthly magazine, Scientific American, August 2009 reveals the shocking and alarming reality behind the proliferation of GMO products throughout the food chain of the planet since 1994. There are no independent scientific studies published in any reputed scientific journal in the world for one simple reason. It is impossible to independently verify that GMO crops such as Monsanto Roundup Ready Soybeans or MON8110 GMO maize perform as the company claims, or that, as the company also claims, that they have no harmful side effects because the GMO companies forbid such tests!"
..You cannot discount sources of a source who may be biased..just on the potential of the bias. Did you read his article and the editorial in Scientific American? Or did you just see the authors name and discount it? Did you try to fact check the claims made from other sources?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
harshbarjDec 30, 2010
I can't find that story in your links. Anyway, you can discount a story if it is based on a source that may be biased. If SA was to do a story stating meat was unhealthy in any quantity and the source was from a study funded by peta that would not be a good story to base any opinion on and may very well be false.
If I know an author to be biased then yes I will always dismiss any story by them as they have proven to be unreliable. Not until a reputable and independent group conducts a study would I have any faith in the results.
njdoo7Dec 31, 2010
It sounds like your opinion is that a biased author can never be correct. That doesn't make any sense at all.
jugger74Dec 31, 2010
@harshbarj
You are simply too stupid for words.
breadfredDec 31, 2010
jugger; why exactly is he stupid?
jugger74Dec 31, 2010
He is stupid because like most the mouth breathers out there he simply takes his opinion and tries to validate it with lies like "This is the first I have heard of any link between GMO and allergies. Every independent study I have seen show the food is just as safe and non-GMO food." I know this is a lie because the only studies done have all been negative aside from that there has been a global rejection of GMO because people instinctively know this crap is bad. Also when talking about biases give your head a shake big agra and big pharma are the ones pushing this crap so the only place you are going to see opposition is in the independent media and natural health promoters. Mainstream corporate media wouldn't say s**t if GMO caused it to come flying out of their lying bought off mouths. Here is what I found on a quick cursory search of "GMO study" .

breadfredDec 31, 2010
Sorry; jugger. You are the one with the bias here. I am not in favor of GM food as I believe it destroys variety. However, there is not a single bit of proof that GM is harmful compared to non-GM food.
'People instinctively know this crap is bad' is a very poor argument. People instinctively knew the earth was flat, that flying was impossible, that witches existed. Granted, witches do exist - but they are not the evil bitches you read about in fairy tales.
Natural health promoters - are the people who sell you rubber wristbands for $60, the people who provide 'holistic acupuncture', Reiki and what have you not? Man, come off it already. I shall not call them sharlatens as they themselves believe that they do good - but check up on double blinded test. Not a single one of these 'alternative health' thingies work beyond the placebo effect.
Also, GM in itself can bring more food to more people; if used correctly. Ie by increasing the yield; not by making them dependent on a single weedkiller which you sell separately. Now I do not think you want to deny people food (do not forget there are parts of the world who do not have much re food!)
So get off your high horse and see; from a fellow who does not really like GM either, why GM in certain circumstances can be great. The reasons you supplied are just plain ignorant, sorry.
jugger74Dec 31, 2010
Well breadfred, it seems you don't even know the meaning of bias or scientific study as you cited none. I would love to see the data stating that GMO crops have higher yields. You were obviously too busy trying to come with your factless retort to read any of the links to studies of GMO and the many documented cases of failed crops. No big deal just keep calling your opinions facts mouthbreather you'll get what you're looking for lol.
breadfredJan 1, 2011
proof: from actual studies and not from biased websites:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.0960-7412.2002.001607.x/full
Oh and Big Pharma. Man you bring in totally unrelated subjects into this discussion.
Oh, and please refrain from obviously biased websites when citing your sources.
By the way, I am sure you did not read the bit earlier where I said I am no general not in favor of GM crops. I was just stating that it has higher yields and you are killing people by your subjective point of view and disallowing poor people food.
jugger74Jan 4, 2011
@breadfred
You are entirely too simple to attempt to debate please refrain from engaging in any further debate with me as you make my brain hurt.
breadfredJan 4, 2011
So because YOU can not disprove my claims I am too stupid for a debate? You have a lot to learn.
enantiodromiaDec 31, 2010
if you keep looking for lizardmen, you will eventually find them i guess. there are many better reasons than your GMO theory, sorry.

With more people, comes more problems from excessive use of resources. With more pollution, comes more unclean air. With more waste, comes more sickness. Seems like common sense to me.
As far as finding an alternative to food, I'd love to live off energy if it was stable enough to support life. After all, you don't want a power outage ruining your life.

njdoo7Dec 30, 2010
I am inclined to believe this is a side effect of the fact that americans consume a lot of GMO (genetically modified) food. There has been a lot of research suggesting links between GMO and food allergies, and this appears to be a symptom of it.
Good thing the FDA approves GMO foods and other harmful chemicals readily without an objective evaluation being done. Proper studies on long term effects of these organisms were never done before approval. This is just scratching the surface.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
FoghatIsAmazingDec 30, 2010
They also still say that we should be eating tons of carbohydrates. If the government recommends it, there's probably some lobbying group supported by a large, lucrative industry behind it all.
njdoo7Dec 30, 2010
Yea, an example is Monsanto with their GMO corn patent. The organism cross breads into farmers crops who don't want it, but monsanto can come in and sue them for royalties. Once the crops are there, it is almost impossible to revert to non-GMO. Also, the farmers have to buy new seeds every year. They have successfully monopolized 85%+ percent of corn production. Additionally, the government subsidizes corn making high fructose corn syrup cheaper than sugarComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I think it is because people wear leather shoes and do not run around the table naked 3 times before a meal.

Can you provide a link to one such study?
njdoo7Dec 30, 2010
Firstly, one study would not provide enough evidence....I suggest researching it yourself.

Any chance that there's just a better system in place to diagnose this than in the past? Plus, there's a lot less tough love given out by the parents. Now they need to go see some sort of specialist the instance that the child farts.

While not an allergy, "Celiac disease, an immune system reaction to gluten in the diet, is over four times more common today than it was 50 years ago, according to findings of a Mayo Clinic study"... This was based on comparison of blood samples from the fifties with those of a similar cross section today.

It's evolution working against us! In my (crazy?) opinion, afflictions such as food allergies are the result of ordinary human genetic mutations which, in the past, would have ended with the death of the afflicted person. Today, every single person lives to a ripe-old-age and produces several offspring unless killed in a senseless accident. As a result, bad genetic mutations, such as food allergies, are bred into the general population.
I'm not suggesting we begin destroying our fellow man because they have certain genetic characteristics. I'm just offering an opinion as to the cause of the frequency of persons with this, and other afflictions.
FMA001Dec 31, 2010
I have also been wondering if evolution may be the reason as well. These allergies have always been around, so it's hard to say that GM foods are the cause. Of course, it's possible that they may increase it but I can't help thinking that modern medicine is saving the lives of a lot of people with these allergies allowing them to reproduce and pass on those genes to future generations.
tomtutsDec 31, 2010
I think you guys are on an interesting track, but maybe have it a bit backwards; it is not our genes that have changed all that much of late, but rather our diets. Most of our genome was formed during the hundreds of thousands of years during which we were hunter gatherers who lived on wild meat almost exclusively 9 months out of the year. Compared to that, the 10 thousand years or so that we have been farming and consuming primarily grains is a drop in the bucket.
I'm of the opinion that most people haven't acclimated to our current diet on a genetic level, and that grains (especially wheat) lead to digestive problems, (leaky gut, autoimmunity, and so on). Most people have an allergic response to the gluten in wheat, even when they are not diagnosed as allergic. (I was tested for celiac and told I was normal, and thought my stomach cramps, constipation, bloating, was normal my whole life until I cut out grains and all of that went away)
I don't have the time or inclination to cite sources or go into detail, but I suggest http://robbwolf.com/ as a jumping off point for those who want to research it themselves.
halgyJan 1, 2011
This was my first thought. It sucks having to carry an epipen everywhere, but it beats dying before being able to reproduce.
NewsMeBackDec 30, 2010
It's scary really how often you meet people with allergic food reaction.
geroncoDec 30, 2010

grammerpantsDec 30, 2010
Many people point to GMO, I think it has more to do with our obsession with being clean (anti-bacterial soap), then anything else. There is no need for that s**t and it destroys our immune system.
blueracer88Dec 30, 2010
The more we "refine" or "improve" our food, the worst it is for us. Way too much High Fructose Corn Syrup in everything!
njdoo7Dec 30, 2010
The people who do the "refining" and "improving" then push them on the public are hardcore darwinists. Improvements to them are often things such as poisoning people or dumbing them down. They see population control as an issue, so it's their job as the "fittest" of the world to fix it. They also call adding lithium to public drinking water, get this, a "cognitive enhancement." It is a sick ideology, and it's too bad for humanity that they currently shape the world.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I myself blame the fact that kids today are too sheltered from dirt and filth.
They didn't have the opportunity to expose their immune systems to the elements and now we have a generation of people who cannot properly react to certain foods.
Hurray for unintended consequences!

I'd like to blame modern medicine. If it wasn't so good at keeping people alive, nature would have sorted this out awhile ago.
Not trying to sound harsh, but eventually we will be keeping people alive that really shouldn't be because they weaken the overall population when they have children.
RichvideoDec 30, 2010
I agree with richardomongler point...Also doctors shoving powerful Antibiotics into kids from an early age kill all the good gut flora in them and they wonder why they have digestion issues. I also feel that it might have something to do with the increase in obesity in kids.

laurahoustonJan 1, 2011
very odd. Wonder if they can text blood or DNA from 100-200 years ago, or even ancient DNA for allergies.
In 3rd world countries a food product called "plumpie nut" (close but not exact name) is all peanut, like peanut butter mainly Its a great easy to hand out food for the starving. No cases at all of peanut allergy with those who eat that food.
That is a high percent of allergic children and rising way to much. Wonder if its tied to the rising cancer rates in America.? Seems like america has a history of hiding toxic waste accidents, chemical spills unreported, drinking water, cancer causing chemicals used on food crops and livestock.
Not everything is tested, just small amount and random. One has to trust the honesty of farmers and ranchers that they don't try to get away with using chemicals that harm people.
Kind of gives me chills when I read the high percent of allergic kids. Somethings happening, I wish they could find the cause and stop it. Plus make whatever company caused the harm pay for all medical.
