And instead of doing the obvious - building massive bioreactors at each site - they just dump it anywhere allowed or not...
See, even the Romans back then were more advanced at waste management. Anyone remembers 'pecunia non olet'? Well it was all about the piss from the public toilets being used by smart people. They organized the transport of all this liquid gold into the outer parts of the cities where the tanners and dyers worked and needed the 'chemicals'.
(Those collecting the piss did so for free at the start until Vespasian put a tax at those 'companies' for using the 'public property' - namely the piss...).

Well, if you stop eating pork because of the s**t, and you stop eating beef because cows are massive water hogs. . .what else is there to eat? :P

Why do we let things like this happen? Anything we produce that causes pollution should be replaced with a safe alternative. Period.

I though most of these packed factory farms moved into mexico so they could pollute at will and hire people who will work in a cesspool.
I raise chickens-hens for organic eggs. I have several acres of pasture. Use a rotation system and rest the pastures so they never get over grazed.
give the animals some space and rotate pastures. My pastures have lush green grass, the animals eat less feed when they have grass, no antibiotics or sick animals and no pits of manure to run off The food is better quality too and tastes better.
All manure, bedding and nests go to a compost heap and fertilise the grass.
factory farms suck for humans and animals.!

Erm, the environmental impacts of factory farms are well-known. This isn't fearmongering.
There was one instance of a s**t lagoon for a pig CAFO erupting in a geyser of pig s**t because of methane buildup or somesuch. It's only 'fearmongering' to the ignorant and uninformed.
