I guess logistics made it impossible to use aluminum for this one, but I was remembering your link while watching this one and thinking they should've done the same thing. It would be easier to break down and reassemble. They'll probably have to leave all that cement there.
Awesome though, beautiful really.

Could you imagine being one of those ants while concrete is being pumped into the colony? I bet it would feel like the alien invasion in Falling Skies or something like that.

Look how brilliant ants are.. It's unbelievable!
balzorFeb 1, 2012
I'll be showing this to my Science class tomorrow. Thanks

Don't get me wrong, I think this is amazing, but equally amazing to me is how they managed to get the concrete to flow so well and fill all the nooks and crannies so thoroughly. Nice work science!

Cement with some additives can flow just like water

Those ants worked hard building their home and just destroyed by the scientist and explorers.. But it's a good thing we learned about this great stuff though.

Those poor ants. What the hell gives these people the right to walk in and fill their home with cement? Like it or not, they're living creatures, too.
juniorbFeb 2, 2012
Ant colonies are eradicated by rivals all the time. I think one can be sacrificed in the name of science.
