That is what we call photographic memory. I wish I can develop such memory. sigh...
nitoriFeb 9, 2012
Some humans actually do have photographic memories like that but they're autistic.

It has been known for sometime that great apes do have photographic memory.
The theory is humans made an evolutionary trade off to gain the ability to form complex language.

i think its because they have an extra bit of memory. humans have 3 bits which give us 2^3 -1 memory slots (7). anything beyond that we have to shuffle the data to larger/longer term storage which takes time and is expensive.
i always wondered what humans would be capable of if we had larger short term memory slots, but its perhaps the fact that we do have such a small amount that we were forced to use / grow our long term memory. perhaps, we would far less advanced if so, since we whouldnt have had to make computers, written language (especially with regards to mathematics), and such

Wrong, synapses are no digital computing processors.
A single event, the single firing of a synapse transmits much more data then just a bit - or even three of them....
And that is not even accounting for the chemical transmitters a synapse produces by firing - that is information too.

wrong, your trying to compare synapses to 'bits' when you can only really compare them to transistors. despite 'lots that go on' in a transistor, it takes more than a single transistor create memory.
since our brains are a bit different than how computer chips are set up, its not a one-to-one comparison, for instance we can only store 7 OBJECTS in our memory like: telephone, apple, 5, the taste of an orange, etc. There may be many 'bits' of information about that apple.

i watched a documentary which demonstrated this. they actually made the case that we got smart because we lacked the ability to do this. they had another example making the same case. but i can't remember exactly what it was. :D
autokadFeb 9, 2012
remember what the documentary was? maybe ill watch it on hulu :)
starmanjonesFeb 9, 2012
i'll try to figure it out. i watch a lot of documentaries.
