Lawsuits anyone?

Inception.

Every technology that is meant to target terrorists or save children is eventually turned on average citizens.
lenbairdAug 7, 2010
Dugg up, but I will edit it slightly:
"Every technology that is *CLAIMED* to target terrorists or save children is eventually turned on average citizens."
They lie when they say it is for terrorists. Sure, they'll use it on them at first, to establish precedent that they can do it, but that is just a side show.
rodneyws1977Aug 7, 2010
You edit is accurate and appreciated.

Sometimes, I feel like killing people. Sometimes, I am so upset when I am filing my taxes I feel like going after the tax man and ripping off his stupid, control freak head..
Doesn't mean I am going to do it.
targetloopAug 7, 2010
And if we could get terrorist to voluntarily wear those wires, I guess we wouldn't have a problem.
nolanrAug 7, 2010
Any one want to volunteer?

The government can already read our mind with chemtrails and fluoride in our water.

How is this ANYTHING like Minority Report. Submitter fails and needs to go watch it again.

Thought Crimes.....not just an Orwellian worst case scenario anymore.
helloween2008Aug 7, 2010
I took two classes with Rosenfeld, participated in this experiment, and helped in the lab... He'll be the first to tell you that he doesn't even really care about the work. But he does it because he loves getting huge grants from the government to fund his research.
In fact, his technology (EEG and EOG) isn't even used by many researchers nowadays. My guess is the best deception detection research will come from fMRI studies.
metaphidAug 8, 2010
"his technology (EEG and EOG) isn't even used by many researchers nowadays." I presume you mean in connection with the detection of concealed information. The basic elements of this procedure were invented by a guy named Lawrence Farwell who developed the technique in his PhD dissertation at the University of Illinois--Champaign decades ago. It looked promising, but has become somewhat less so as the years have gone by. But EEG (and ERP, specifically) research generally is very much alive and well, in part because of far superior temporal resolution as compared to fMRI. (Sorry for the technical addendum.)
helloween2008Aug 9, 2010
I wholeheartedly agree with your reply; I just didn't want to get too detailed in my comment! In fact, I believe supplementing ERP research with something like fMRI would be great for the field. The temporal resolution of EEG is definitely superior, and the spatial isn't as bad as some would say. But as we say in every scientific field, "further research is needed."

Anything that forwards the evil agenda never gets the slippery slope argument applied to it. Notice that?
hyraxAug 8, 2010
Dude, Minority Report is already happening. Smoke a joint next to a cop and see what happens. You are immediately a "potential criminal" that "might" hurt someone else. Same with open alcohol and gun carrying laws.
The thought police are already out in full force. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Smoke a joint next to a cop and see what happens. You are immediately a "potential criminal""
Whaaaa? You should really work on trying to make better examples for what you are trying to say.
hyraxAug 8, 2010
Why do they arrest you for it then?
overridemymindAug 8, 2010
Because, unfortunately, Marijuana is still illegal (in most places). In the places its medicinal uses are legal, you just have to show them your prescription and you'll be fine. Derp.
