Debatably, what makes the iPhone great is the Application library in the App Store, so Android WILL be a competitor to the iPhone (and vice versa).

The iPhone can't cut and paste, nor can it run multiple apps simultaneously. Android does both. This is the first version and one security release was just made available, so come early 2008 when other phones as well as Motorola's new offerings become available, many people will rethink the whole "Apple is king" philosophy....
