alternet.org— Chris Hedges'Chris Hedges' Black Bloc takedown is only the most recent in a series of critiques bashing anarchists within the national Occupy movement. Here's why they're not helpful.
Feb 9, 2012View in Crawl 4
Black Bloc or anyone who follows in their destructive footsteps are ineffective **** who lack as much patience as a fat-ass waiting in line at a Burger King.
We need to keep identifying them and turn them in or at the very least expose them.
In their impatient haste, they are ironically slowing us down. Their numbers are too small to stop us, but they certainly aren't helping anything.
And, many of them are provocateurs that need to be exposed. Keep your cameras on the brutal police AND on the destructive protestors - both of them are stupid assh**es.
The OWS movement already has credibility and that's why its messages have spread across the nation (and world, mind you) and influenced everything from American legislation to the SOTU address.
The corporatist media doesn’t reflect this and never will because the corporatists are the enemy of the American public and will always be. Just the facts of life. It's just up to you to learn to get your information from other sources if you are to properly educate yourself.
As I already said... their numbers are too small to stop us, but they certainly aren't helping anything and we should expose these small road bumps for what they are.
To say that the "true" 99% who support OWS are only anarchists is nonfactual hyperbole.
The OWS is just getting started. There are more events and actions daily (indoors) in ONE day than the tea baggers could muster in a year. And, that's going on RIGHT NOW.
LOL!!! You keep telling yourself that. Fact is Occupy is wasting its time playing with the police and camping out instead of protesting congress and the president who are the cause of most of the legit grievances they have.
> instead of protesting congress and the president
You are incredibly ignorant. The OWS movement has repeatedly protested both Obama and Congress.
> LOL!!! You keep telling yourself that.
Your desperate laugh betrays you. I don't have to "keep telling myself anything" because all I have to do is look at FACTS. Something you're allergic to, apparently.
Once again, I'm sorry to hit you where it hurts and expose you to facts that give you hives, but you're just going to have to man up and take it:
There are more events and actions daily (indoors) in ONE day than the tea baggers could muster in a year. And, that's going on RIGHT NOW.
You'll probably keep ignoring this because it gives you cognitive dissonance. I'm sorry it hurts your brain but the overwhelming majority of OWS movement actions are indoors without police skirmishes.
Then again, if you'd step away from your monolithic info diet and expand your horizons, you'd know this.
FTA - "I have no interest in being a 'peaceful protester,'" says Angell. "We're all criminals. People need to accept that."
Well written piece. While it clearly supports the aims of the Occupy movement it also reveals its greatest weakness; the desire to property and rights not earned. As villified in the corporate/establishment media that the tea party is, there was nowhere near the violence, destruction of private property or illegal use of public property. Even with the support of the establishment the Occupy movement is simply going to be discarded and thier concerns ignored.
How often do you hear from Cindy Sheehan under the new administration?
This is an important piece which records for all to see their method of operation:
- violence/criminal behavior
- to gain property and rights they have not earned.
Everyone please take note of this as these groups become more and more violent and anarchist in the coming months. It is all in preparation for the election, and one side will use this to try to win. But it only shows how desperate they are if they need these anarchist groups on their side. It also reveals their true values.
Also note that Obama supports OWS, as stated by Jay Carney some months ago. Other groups such as MoveOn also support them.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
"As villified in the corporate/establishment media that the tea party is, there was none the violence, destruction of private property or illegal use of public property."
There. Tea Party gatherings were all legal, peaceful, and violence free. There were heated exchanges of words in some but that was about it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
In the '70s, we had endless arguments about whose politics were the most pure, and while we were fighting each other the rape and pillage of this country flourished.
Or maybe Chris Hedges gets it just fine but has concluded violence has no place in the movement and hurts its goals far more than it advances them. Honestly from a PR standpoint he's right.
If OWS filed a permit to protest, obeyed the restrictions on the permit, and then Police descended and attacked them with tear gas there would be outrage. When the same Police action occurs to a group of people who are marching to "occupy (ie: take over) a building that doesn't belong to them, a substantial chunk of America is going to view the protesters actions as the wrong one and care a lot less about the Police being aggressive in dealing with it (and yes, I know that wasn't Black Bloc, but I'm discussing any tactics by anyone in the movement that appear violent).
None, but the fact that OWS has actually been granted some and even been given Court ordered access tells you that they aren't dealing with tyrants like our Founding Father's were. Additionally the majority of the members of the movement also didn't elect the current ruler of their nation, which is another reason why OWS is different, since most of the ones of them that voted did so for Obama.
"Protesters supporting the Occupy Seattle movement have obtained a park use permit for a a medical tent at Westlake Park. "
Only got a page the other day reading this article before I thought my head ought to explode.. Because to me it is extremely important that honesty and working together are held as high order so that progress toward understanding and good gov takes shape and Gov is not enemy but the essence of order and the poor peoples' protector when done right.
I've walked in very recent protest to deliver petition to gov an noticed some dressed in black with bandanna on face, one with a belt of bullets standing on a short rock wall like a sentinel as we watched walking in orderly fashion by with our leaders and men who served our nation in war and at house of gov and as citizen soldier and world citizen who cares..
We need rules that are well on target to get the justice system in line with progressive tactic of trying, trying somehow to head off global runaway overheat on otherwise all systems go.
Keep your bandanna's and subtle belts of bullets in the costume department of distant show

Doing this is the only way the Occupy movement can begin to gain any credibility with the true 99% who are not anarchists and do not support it.

This article is in response to Chris Hayes, whose article (another very good read) can be found here: http://www.alternet.org/occupywallst/154028/black_bloc%3A_the_cancer_in_occupy/

Correction: Chris Hedges, not Hayes. It's early.

The problem for Occupy is the two movements share the same method, but not the same goals.

Nope. Different methods and different goals.
