The government needs to start serving the people again and this is how it begins. At the moment we are in a balancing act between a democracy and an Oligarchy. Decisions made are not made based on the good of our society but are made to benifit the few with power and money. Corporations are and should always be a tool of we the people.

the article has your answer, not mine. The article ends up attacking the conservatives with not a mention of the big monied interests of the left. That always seems to elude these people. like the Huffington Post and others like them. PoliticusUSA is one of the worst.

The article does mention the "Super PAC supporting President Obama, Priorities USA Action" - would that not be defined as the "big monied interests of the left"?
I see the article ending with "The American people desperately want to restore our democracy and return to rule by all of the people, not corporations and the superrich.". So - are you saying that conservatives WANT corporations to rule?
Sanders and those that join him ARE showing themselves as leaders by stopping monied interests on both sides first - by stopping Citizens United.

I don't much trust Socialists. Whose side is Ciitizens United support? Bernie's, the Socialist? Why do we not start with one big monied interest representing each side first. All together now...all at once taking down each others support system.

Who's side does Citizens' support? The multi-national corporations' side. And they will support any side that they can control.

Corporations should be eliminated, alteration of high finance needs to take place but the need for change necessitates the rules need changing so Corporate entity morphs from monetary to what supports the sustaining of Earth's environmental systems including all of Nature.
Not war on corporations but an increasing tax on foul behavior and motive. It's necessary not to tear down but to build up and have a full on, full throttle turn at Sea to bring the power of industry and thought, of full employment and accurate use of materials including natural resources and the intellectual ability of science based analysis of what works to bear. It's necessary to know what doesn't work and to direct quality improvement in manner that supports the common good, the common good Earth and interaction of plant and animal, of sky and water and all the processes mostly taken for granted at the present time.. Negative on the Orwell for Pres idea but rather the implementation of a process of review as stacks up to current scientific best guess on degree of benefit or harm that particular product and services render the projected continued existence of Earth with Nature's systems intact so life can go on.. Even Orwell would be surprised at the crisis apparent greenhouse gas emissions place on avoidance of the current global extinction event initiated but in its infancy at present time.. Big gov does not appeal to me, nor will voluntary actions in concert by 7 billion people just by asking.. Something useful and doable needs doing and fast to head off a problem taken as not existent by the entire Republican cast of Presidential contenders at the present time.. Findings of Science do not match up with crazy economic theory and politics ruining things right now.. This isn't about us, it is about the children and a beautiful place full of life in the Universe. The need to protect the Earth and the rights of others to live on..
Tax on motive if the motive is money and operations are designed to be destructive to the rights of others to have the beauty of Nature and a place called home seems a silly use of the term Tax.
A better term would be to put a price on destructive industry proportional to the harm it produces judged against the harm it does to the Earth on which we live.. There are over 200 countries and the US is but one..

You are definitely passionate about your beliefs, and I must respect that. However, your paragraph itself is a soft-defense of coercion, limitation of free-acts, and penalization of thought.
It is precisely because the proof, through practice of the Scientific Method, has not (yet) been sufficient to convince enough citizens of Earth to voluntarily waive their freedoms, that we even have this conversation.
In your own life, you have already made the choice that you are willing to sacrifice some personal control of your actions and finances because you believe this is a benefit to the planet we share, and humanity itself.
I would argue that your willingness to forego your own free-will to and your eagerness to exert physical, financial and thought control over others is far more destructive to humanity.
Being equal, we two, gives me as much right to ask you to stop your destructive actions as you have to ask me to stop mine, although you have no clue what my personal behaviors might be. You, however, have laid out your philisophy, and thus your intended behaviors, in a very eloquent and easy-to-understand way.

I agree. Frankly I think their should be a limit on how much any one person/organization/company can donate for a specific candidate and an overall limit on the amount of money that can be spent on campaign advertising for each candidate each election. You'd just have to be careful to write the laws in such a way that wouldn't allow for loopholes for "non-affiliated" people to advertise on the person's behalf.

First, we have had campaign finance reform, and all it did was protect incumbents. Our congress has a lower turnover than the USSR's Politburo.
Second, the chances of passing a meaningful law in the face of the oligarchy's resistance is zero.
Third, the possibility of a meaningful law actually working are exactly the same as the various laws against illegal drugs, and for the same reason. Laws that try to obstruct the flows of money to desired commodities can't work except to raise the price of those commodities.
Making it more expensive to influence Congress is not in our best interest. It is definitely in the best interest of the Oligarchy.

I dug you up because yes, you are right - it is now all about purchasing the White House - no matter what side you are on. And this is made far worse by Citizens United.
Those White House purchasers are the multi-national corporations. And they don't give a rip about Americans - unless they can turn a profit on us.
Step one towards getting the money out of politics is getting rid of Citizens United. Hopefully, whoever you vote for will support that.

Thanks for pointing out that it's "BIG MONEY" that wags the tail of the Governance of our country. I wish for some mechanism to control or limit it's influence permiating our entire political system. Big money PAC's & Party politics; Big Money in lobbying on issues in congress & the House. (It matters not to me if it's from Corporations, Hollywood, PACs or Foreign sources) We truly need leaders with courage, integrity and guts to act in the best interests and welfare of "we the people" who elect them to offices.
Among other things; the root of our current economic delema is MISCONDUCT & Lack of honesty and integrity in the Banking, Mortgage & Real Estate Institutions where money was scammed from Thousands of "average" citizens so a few could get RICH. NO REAL INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN LAUNCHED, No-one held accountable and to top everything off - - - BAILOUT money was sent to the very organizations who benefited from the scheme.
I acknowlege I'm only complaining, as others are, and would welcome a credible plan or scheme for limiting the influence of money & return grass roots representation to politics.

This is because a real Pareto Diagram that shows relative importance of issued in the world today has global warming, stopping and reversing harms that are persistently being added to with time and undoing past pollution and its effects is the only thing that can alter a fast change forcing temp up..
The amount of temp rise is capable of evaporating the Sea to the Sky on the planet within perhaps 5 or 10 thousand years and leaving a stew of caustic residue in my estimation.
Only 5 or 10 degrees C of temp rise will eliminate for most part civilized thought on Earth.
Prerequisite to avoiding that is tying carbon release and enterprise to wealth in the world and tying those things that counter necessity to get off oil and the like, like war over board..
Economics is a great harm today that has poisoned the minds of people at all levels on Earth.. Consumerism is deadly and has become entrenched in rich and poor thought alike.
Necessity of food and shelter and things like clothing; of peace and justice people can respect.. But the Necessity to keep Earth's life systems alive has been forgot but not for long..
