Andy Worthington, author and activist, is on an extended trip in the US, from his home in the UK, appearing in cities from NYC, DC to San Francisco and Berkeley, educating the people, of this country, on the issue of Guantanamo and its effects. He joins with other experts on the issue from legal to security, military and education to bring the matter to the public.
Films, radio shows, speeches and panel discussions are being used to highlight not just the prison and its illegally held prisoners but also discussing the effects of this prison and our acts of abuse and torture, illegal detention, lack of concern for human rights and civil rights as well as our attitude of acceptance as it relates to others on this planet.
To my fellow American citizens -
We are allowing our government to kidnap and mistreat men, women and children without thought or care.
We are allowing torture, abuse and mistreatment of people in our name.
We are denying basic human rights to men, women and children who have done NOTHING to deserve this treatment.
We have been promised transparency, accountability and justice but have seen nothing done to create those conditions.
Those citizens of OUR country who have tried to bring the subject and discussion to the people; who have tried to bring information to light have been declared security risks, called traitors, vilified, harassed, imprisoned and held in contempt - from former guards to military personnel (all the way up to a general who was charged with Abu Ghraib). We have accepted our government's actions towards them - destroying their positions and careers, their reputations, threatening their freedom and their lives.
We have been lied to, manipulated into fear and hate, information withheld from us and we are accepting it without question?
Guantanamo Detention Center was set up under Bush but the actions of kidnap and abuse by the CIA and the military started much earlier than this.
Clinton allowed it in the 90's.
Torture , like waterboarding, has been used for decades by our government in places like Vietnam and Cambodia; It has been used in places with names like Abu Ghraib and Bagram EVEN after it was declared ILLEGAL by our own government (1950's) and reiterated as such under the God of the neo-cons and neo-liberals, Ronnie Reagan..
We have condemned to death or prison those found guilty of torture since WWII yet we commit those same acts on others and are expected to accept it as just another way of "extracting information" (more like planting information).
We have lost our moral compass and we wonder why there are those who have declared "JIHAD"?
Just who the hell are the bad guys here? The US or everyone else on the planet?
The Great "Beacon of Freedom" elite or the brown people in other countries that have the audacity to be living on top of OUR minerals?
We have another election coming up this year for the top job in this country but one thing is absolutely clear ........ every person who has thrown their hat in the ring to date is exactly the same on this issue.
All talk and more spin that a windmill in a hurricane and not a one will do a thing about Guantanamo and the people who have been there or are still there.
Not until we decide we are going to make them...and make them, we can.
Time for a new paradigm
Time to SCREAM as loud and long as we can.
Time to take it to the streets and to the WH and the Senate and House and the SCOTUS.
At least some of us understand the Constitution if our government chooses not.
Time to assure that our government finally gets it. One way or another
CLOSE Guantanamo
CLOSE Bagram
OCCUPY the Planet

Until after the next election when you teabaggers get sent packing and our government can get back to work, working for America.

Occupy the planet, ya'll.
Sure glad Obama pulled through on his promise Day 1 of his presidency to close Gitmo. Hold on to that hope, honey. And keep the change.

Andy Worthington is speaking with Col. Morris and Rep. Moran. The Concentration camp that has imprisoned 22 children, 89 yr. olds and done every kind of torture, as well as been killing and torturing 4 years longer than that of WWII Nazi Concentration Camps. Less than 2% of the total victims are not cleared for release and truly "suspected of crimes." There also has been no Unbiased investigation of the men tortured to death or of any of the torture.

that is bulls**t....you've probably never been to a concentration camp.....thses prisons aren't even close to that bad....the nazi's gave prisoners sawdust to eat beat them whenever and the prisoners slept on a wooden bunk with no sheets or matresses'.....we the us give our prisoners 3 meals a day a bunk with a bed and sheets and clothes....not even a close comparision...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
