Once again, where to start with this can of steroidal “worms” you’ve opened once again! Gawd, Hraf, don’t you SLEEP? Yet, who can sleep when “Freddie the Furtive Fundamentalist” keeps creeping around up and giving you nightmares? I digress…
Ever read Kevin Phillips’ “American Theocracy”? I’m re-reading; he WAS a Republican strategist/economist for 30 years. The book has a dedication that says “This book is dedicated to the millions of Republicans, present and lapsed, who have opposed the Bush dynasty and the dis-enlightenment in the 2000-2004 election.” A republican with “facts”
sounding the alarm in 2006…who knew?
I read last night… (p. 213): “By 2005 the Southern Baptist Convention announced that Cleveland had been selected as it’s national “Strategic Focus City” for 2006-7. Backed by a budget of $2.5 million, thousand of volunteers from all over the country converged to win converts and start new churches. Before long, local Christian conservatives announced the “Ohio Restoration Project”, a plan to marshal Baptist, Pentecostals, and Catholic leaders as so-called Patriot Pastors to take control of the Republican party and elect born-again politicans…”
This is just one of many examples of how Christian Reconstructionist have united with the GOP, breeding clerical “intimacy” within a region in order to establish political authority and govern a community.
I think we need a “model” a way of breaking up regional religious dominance, similar to breaking up of the banks. American needs to develop a system to rid ourselves of this corruption and rebuild the barriers between church and state by breaking up this monopoly. So far, no brilliant minds or leaders have come forth, so, it’s up to us to do the work cuz’ they ain’t gonna’ help us or do it for us…

Too much money involved. The right wing politicians love the money from the right wing fundamentalists. They all appear to be greedy bastards in bed with each other.
The so-called Whore of Babylon, is the marriage between politics and Christianity.
BEWARE! If you believe that s**t.
letsgetreal50Jan 9, 2012
A "Christian" in the White House, could very well be the "Great Whore of Babylon.: The Beast is coming and he will be a "Fundamentalist Christian. BEWARE of fundamentalism and politics in the same bed together..
Bush came close to being a whore, not the Great Whore, but a whore, nevertheless.
Just saying.

I have a problem with this fanatics. Due to their increase of wealth, they are becoming more influential in politics affecting everything from security, social issues and even religion in this country. Only according to them Mormons are not Christians.
Part of that is Wall Street secret war with unions, so they have propagated manufacturing to Union-busting south, therefore bringing wealth to Confederate Conservatives.

“James Dobson’s Focus on the Family took in $142.2 million in 2006, a $4.4 million increase over the previous year. Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council took in $10.3 million in 2006, an increase of over $900,000 over the previous year

Starting with the bases that everything with moderation is tolerable, everything in extremes can hurt you.
With that in mind, this country has grown to be more extremist, both politically and religiously. Among Christians, we have some that are moderate and tolerate other peoples views and accept that we are all God's children.
However, there is one extreme that doesn't tolerate anyone who doesn't talk like them, think, like them, or even look like them.
For these fundamentalists, other Christians like Mormons are not considered Christians but instead are considered cult followers.
Fundamentalist in general, whether they are Christian, Jewish or Muslims they are all bad for the general population, they are militant in their views and they aim to push their views and opinions down other people's throats.
Bay far, this country fundamentalist have grown in wealth and power with the introduction of fundamentalist like Rupert Murdoch of Fox News and Charles and David Koch from Koch Industries. That's what is wrong with this country.
RavenshoodieJan 10, 2012
What's wrong with this country is people denying that the rich and powerful control BOTH sides of the political spectrum. The game is rigged to manipulate us this way and that and until we realize this together the extreme divisiveness will continue.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Fundamentalism: the belief in, and usually the strict adherence to, the simplistic or "fundamental" ideas based on faith of a system of thought.
Do you remember Scott Philip Roeder, 51, of Merriam, Kansas?
He was the "Fundamentalist Good Christian" who was arrested in Gardner, Kansas, some 170 miles away in suburban Kansas City three hours after shooting Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday?

No ... it's an observation based on reading submission after submission that lumps all Christians together (from this source).

"Every Christian in America ought to be concerned about some of the rhetoric coming from the atheist left."
I am far more concerned with the hateful rhetoric coming out of the religious right. I have atheists make fun of my belief all the time. I could care less. But, when right wingers actually deem me as an unworthy Christian because I'm not a Republican, that's disconcerting. I knew another digger that used to say that.
Ouzel7Jan 9, 2012
Do these people, these Christians, do they say you should be rounded up and put away for the good of humankind because you are a foe of progress and science?
Do they say that you shouldn't be allowed to vote?
Do they say that a war should be waged on you because you don't believe as they do?
Because you can see the above comments all over Digg from atheists regarding Christians in America.
You can be Christian and Democrat... no problem with that. Most of the Democrats I know are Christians.
Can you be gay and Republican? Because I see a particular Digg poster subject to persecution for that. By you.... in fact.
Hm.
Your Christian belief is between you and God.
But if I were you ... I'd pray for God to open my eyes to the complete and evil disdain for Christians held by many on the left side of the political spectrum.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

anomaly100,
Really? If I were to take a poll in my church of more than 6,000, I would probably find that half are Democrats. but we don't take polls like that and we never discuss politics. We discuss God and Jesus and how we can help the community and others.
Why do you think that Atheists make fun of your religion all of the time? Do you think the Atheists you know are that hateful? Why do you think they are mocking you so much?
I have Atheist family members who make fun of also. It just occurs out of the blue as if they think they are making me feel bad. That, of course, is not the case, but if that makes them happy, so be it.
geejayeJan 10, 2012
There are many fundamentalist Christians who stand up and ram their beliefs down your throat, such as their war on Christmas and anti-contraception.
They call themselves Christians, and therefore, THEY lump themselves together with all Christians. And, when they do that, not enough non-fundamentalists stand up and disavow these fundamentalists. In fact - do you stand up against these fundamentalists?
If you let these crazy fundamentalists call their actions Christian, then don't be surprised when their actions get lumped into our heads as "all Christians".
Ouzel7Jan 11, 2012
"war on Christmas and anti-contraception."
There is no war on contraception. That's BS...so no, I don't "speak out" against something that doesn't exist.
As to the war on Christmas...well, IMO, every year atheists ramp it up ... so don't fault me for noticing.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

aadyssJan 9, 2012
Yes, you have said that many times. Every time this bigot spouts off about Christianity, which occurs frequently, you sound off with, "I know the author and he respects my belief, but then I respect his choices too." You have also stated you were a non-religious Christian, so I'm sure that politicususa's Hrafnkell Haraldsson would respect your religion. A non-religious Christian - once again I will ask you. - what is that?
Haraldsson's bio says his interests include the precarious dichotomy of freedom of speech and intolerance. He does seem to embrace intolerance.
It is a sure thing that Haraldsson is a person that who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion. Now, what is a person like that called again ...? Is it not the "B" word.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Sure geejaye,
These 'fundamentalists' chain you up in prison, make you listen to loud music at all hours, water-board you and pull out fingernails until you submit to their theology. One can see these satanic beings roaming the streets late at night looking for converts. Yup, that's the truth! It's just horrible, just horrible.
I guess It's people like Haraldsson and the 'good' folks at PoliticusUSA who are the Messiahs in this life who are trying to save millions of readers from the evils from the "fundamentalist menace". They are not trying to force any belief system down anybodies throat. Of course not; perish the thought.
Haraldsson has a hit piece against Christians about once a month on PoliticusUSA. Yes, crawl underneath His wing and you will be saved by this wonderful Pagan. He is the True path and the Light to bigotry.
PoliticusUSA is looking to add bloggers and columnists in several areas. They have two types of NON PAYING positions available, bloggers and columnists. Previous blogging and/or writing experience is strongly preferred. Writers must be able to post unique content exclusively to PoliticusUSA. Proofreading is a must, and familiarity with WordPress is a plus. Bigotry is a must!
Yes indeed, PoliticusUSA helping the economy. Non paying jobs offered by the liberals for THEY know how to grow the economy.

My mother is a dedicated Christian (Catholic) and I don't consider her a fundamentalist. She goes to confession and service every Sunday and she tithes, but I still don't consider her a fundamentalist.

Catholics are primarily considered "Orthodox," not fundamentalist.
aadyssJan 9, 2012
letsgetreal50,
Pope Benedict XVI stated, "The various forms of the dissolution of matrimony today, like free unions, trial marriages and going up to pseudo-matrimonies by people of the same sex, are rather expressions of an anarchic freedom that wrongly passes for true freedom of man...from here it becomes all the more clear how contrary it is to human love, to the profound vocation of man and woman, to systematically close their union to the gift of life, and even worse to suppress or tamper with the life that is born."
I'm sure you, Haraldsson and Politicususa support this opinion.
letsgetreal50Jan 9, 2012
There is a huge difference between "Orthodox" Christians and the loony "fundamentalist" Christians.
Orthodox Christians out number the fundamentalist and consider them "satanic".

There is a distinct and very important difference between the terms Christian and fundamentalist Christian. Many on the left are Christian. Most, I dare say?
letsgetreal50Jan 9, 2012
That's correct. The christian left, has more compassion than the religious right. They mostly vote democrat, but not all.
Even the christian right doesn't necessarily vote republican. It's the "fundamentalist" that really give Christianity it's bad name.

I think the real difference here is that the fundi and Conservative Christians are good people one on one -- it's just that they ascribe to organizations that push an agenda that is destructive.
The "charitable giving" isn't a great measure of compassion, since it's sort of anathema to the Liberal ideal of "solving the problem." The best way to organize people is not through a fundraiser and bake sale -- it's through government, or a tight-nit group dedicated to a purpose.
A lot of charities have been used as 501C slush funds, and do little beyond fund raise and perpetuate the charitable entity. If 15% gets to the target -- that's on a good day.
>> The Compassion we are talking about is how people PUSH their institutions to treat people. If you close schools and open prisons in their stead -- it doesn't matter how many pot lucks your church organizes -- you've made the world more difficult for some people.
It's telling that Conservatives don't even know WHAT they aren't being compassionate about.

"The "charitable giving" isn't a great measure of compassion, since it's sort of anathema to the Liberal ideal of "solving the problem."
Of course it is. The liberal idea is forcibly taxing people to have the government solve the problem. These Christians pay taxes AND give to charity.
