theweek.com— Among the protesters pepper-sprayed while storming a D.C. museum this weekend was a conservative aiming to "mock and undermine" the movement

Despicable. What is up with young white men like this guy and James O’Keefe? Why do they have to make s**t up (or make s**t happen, in this guy's case)? If "your" ideas are really better than "my" ideas, why do you have to lie to get your way?
nov, you and i agree on a lot, but this we disagree on.
the libs have their own versions of O'Keefe. take a look at some of the stupid crap Moore has done (i enjoy his documentaries, at least the parts that don't involve him cam-whoring...going to the banks with bags to collect our money? seriously?). the only difference is that with Moore we all roll our eyes and shake our heads, but, ultimately, we agree with the message he's presenting so it's ok. with O'Keefe and the like, they're behaving like idiots and we disagree with their message, so it pisses us off.
The vast majority of the time, Michael Moore uses big cameras and everyone can see they're being filmed. I've also never seen him try to hide his appearance or who he is.
I completely understand how Michael Moore irritates the heck out of the right. He doesn't, however, just make stuff up. You may disagree with his interpretation, which is certainly fair, but I've never seen him dress as a pimp to fake a tawdry association or unlawfully enter someone's offices to prove his point. Two different things entirely...
Basically, this happens because politics in the US on the right and left if like this. Activists pretty much cannot be relied upon to have real debate and deal with opposing viewpoints with grace and honor.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
I agree with you to some point. I do think that the far right and far left can be harmful in their tactics but I think the far right is much more damaging.
The far left is more about science and about social equality. Though, like most groups, they can provide misleading or inaccurate info, they for the most part are not broadly attacking various groups.
The far right's opinions and beliefs are based more on 'gut feeling' and can be prejudice against white christian conservative beliefs. Look at the debates. They cheered loudly when the moderator mentioned Perry has the highest number of state executions, they shouted "let him die' when Paul was asked if he should let an uninsured man die, and they booed a soldier just because he was gay.
Compare the Occupy Wallstreet (and spinoffs) and the Wisconsin protest with the tea party protest. Which group has more racist signs, more homophobic signs, is less diverse, more references to Hitler/Nazi, etc?

He destroyed a legal, non-partisan and honorable system designed to get out the vote. Your side can't win if a majority of people actually come out and vote.
O'Keefe LIED to destroy ACORN. That's what your proud of?
Oh for f**k's sake, you still legitimize that grandstanding by Nevada's highly partisan justice system? You can't even summarize it without lying (2 years PROBATION, and Busefink was a low level employee, not "the leader"). No wonder our country is in the s**tter.
With all the attempts to discredit this movement, it means just once thing - This movement has the potential to actually be effective and rid politics of un-democratic corporate influence. Stuff like what this conservative moron did, is only going to strengthen the movement and make it harder to discredit.
You see, cons like yourself just think if they *say* something, people are going to believe them. You need evidence dude, otherwise your just another conspiracy theorist yelling into the wind.
Here is MY evidence about YOUR side conducting a massive cheating campaign:
Yes yes yes... you found out that approximately a dozen people were gaming Digg at a time when stories were getting hundreds of votes, but for some reason nobody was going to your little NewsJunkiePost website articles. You hacked into email accounts, you passed PRIVATE information around to all the progressives on this site and you clapped your hands in glee at how clever you were that you infiltrated the Digg Patriot group... then the FBI got involved and suddenly you did a complete 180 and claimed you just went onto a public forum...
@skywise
wow, you created a BB...congrats on that. how about some screen caps or something that proves that it's real instead of a link to a BB that nobody uses.
What you are seeing evidence of is the massive conspiracy of truth. Everyone knows that Fox News and all of the corporate owned media are feeding us bulls**t. They are either distorting the truth to fit an ideology (Fox) or failing to do any reporting of anything substantial. That being the case, people are turning to the Internet and they are being heard here on Digg. You and the Digg Patriots had to game the system because you are such an extreme minority. The majority doesn't have to game the system.
When you get buried you are feeling the weight of the majority opinion. There is no "liberal" equivalent of the DP bury brigade because there doesn't have to be.
The worst part is, unless this photographic proof had been taken, he would have denied it and every corporate whore on the right would have screamed that it was a conspiracy theory.
Just one little correction. The Occupy Wall Street movement has nothing to do with Obama or any of his campaign slogans.
I can't speak for the movement, but I for one am frustrated that Obama has not done more to reel in the corporations, and has not done more to get the corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share. I'm frustrated that the corporations owns the propaganda machine and so they keep getting their way.
As far as I'm concerned, there should have been a trial that started on 02/20/2009. It should have started at the top and worked its way down through all of the festering corruption in our government and our corporate system.
Well I think the main reason he will probably vote for Obama, just as I probably will, is that he by far the lesser of 2 evils.
The GOP is 100% bought and paid for. If they weren't then why would they only care about more money for the filthy rich? and be purposely leading us into destruction?
At least with the Dems there's a fighting chance left for this country.
"just stop, please. you are a Obama supporter. you will vote for Obama, campaign for Obama and against anyone running against Obama."
Most of us voting for Obama aren't completely satisfied with what he has done. Much of the Occupy Wallstreet movement along with its spinoffs have little to do with Obama. In fact, many of their request differ from some of Obama's actions.
Many of us are voting for Obama because he would be the better choice between him and a GOP candidate. Being a 'better choice' does NOT mean we are completely satisfied, just that that we believe the GOP would set this country back both in long term economics and social issues.
Awww diddums... is the little talebangelical jealous that someone apart from the old scared white people with who think they own this country is getting some airtime?
if you have any critical thinking skills, or expertise in the constitutional right of free speech, how can you not know that any non-government entity has as much right to suppress your views and free speech (employers can fire you for critical remarks, make you park your non-american-made car in a back lot, forbid tobacco use during non-working hours, etc), just as much as you do theirs. me digging you down or replying in all caps doesn't diminish your voice, unless people see my point more clearly than yours, and agree with it.
When "Pat" introduced himself to me in 2008 he told my friends and I that he was a cancer survivor, worked in Hollywood as a screenwriter, and was best buddies with Bruce Vilanch. It didn't take long for us to call his bluff. When I saw this article I was suprised, but not THAT suprised he would do something like this...

I had to look to see what article these comments were on. Did you see my comments on this article? You must not have. Well f**k you too. You want to argue so badly that you'll ascribe to me the views of your opposition so that you can rage against me. All I'm trying to convey is that your method of promoting your submission is a kind of faux pas. FYI, I am very liberal on social issues but fiscally I could go either way, depending on the issue. I support OWS to the extent that they protest corporate control of our political process but I don't support all the other hippy baggage people want to use the zeitgeist to drag on-board. If they really want to make a difference they should stop focusing on wall street and focus on campaign finance reform. Politicians will never slaughter the goose that lays their golden eggs so campaign finance reform won't happen until something drastic changes. There's my views on the matter. Pick them apart, if you must. I don't care. I'm not interested in having a retarded shout fest with some spaz on the internet. Go yell at a mirror for all the good it will do. In the meantime, though, don't spam your submissions around, especially without even adding an explanation of why it's relevant.
I'm not seeing it. The guy seems like a dickbag, sure, but how is he to blame for the violence? Also, the people "storming" the museum weren't OWS. They're an anti-war group trying to use the OWS zeitgeist. It seems like all sides are trying to make more of this than there really is.
This is politics folks. If you look at the history of electioneering in the US, this incident was pretty mild. If you don't think so, watch the PBS documentary on Prohibition.
"No. This is the protesters' fault, not Howley's: This journalist didn't egg on the protesters, says David Weigel at Slate. He simply "stumbled upon conservative media gold." The fringe anti-war October 11 movement is trying to steal the thunder of the booming Occupy protests. "What does a protest of drones have to do with a new populist protest of income disparity and bank deregulation?" Nothing, of course. But the "ineffective, camera-hungry" bunch at October 11 "have it in them to wreck the image of the new [Occupy] movement." All "Howley did was notice" and report on it."Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
so this enema bag can't get a non-violent protest group to be aggressive and it's to their discredit, or maybe it is a feature of non-violent protests and protesters. how many people did he get to charge the door with him? you may have noticed he claims to be the only one that made it through the door. they weren't threatening to him, he's the one who thinks they should be more disciplined and militant, perhaps so the police will respect them more?
he should be a little more self-congratulatory about his victory, after all he pretty much saved the drones from having derogatory signs spread out in front of them. single-handedly.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/journalism
Definition of JOURNALISM
1a : the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media b : the public press c : an academic study concerned with the collection and editing of news or the management of a news medium
2a : writing designed for publication in a newspaper or magazine b : writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation c : writing designed to appeal to current popular taste or public interest
he's not a journalist any more than a murderer who writes a book about how he killed people. a journalist records what happens. an activist tries to make things happen. the two are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
I wrote some more protest signs that are much more concise and relevant.
1. I bought this sign with my credit card
2. I drove here in my car
3. Hold on !!! I have a call on my cell phone!
4. Who has a mortgage ??
5. The Industrial Revolution made it possible for me to get here !!!
6. I hate banks... on Sunday, The rest of the week, I frequent them.
7. Rich people gave my dad a job !!!
8. Just like abortion, I am for anything that does not affect MY existence !!
9. When I was young, I played with corporate scum toys !!!
10. I am so tired of not being heard .. think I wil play drums !!!
11. What are we protesting about again???
12. Oh yea! we want stuff !!
13. My father told me when I was young ... hold up your sign higher son !!!
14. Fox News tells the truth and we cannot stand it !! (you gotta read between the lines)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
15. Obama gave OUR money to Wall Street but we are protesting the recipients
16. Wall Street and Us are a lot alike, we both accept hand outs !!!
17. My parents occupied Wall Street and all I got was this T-shirt made in China and corporately distributed through a network of complex chains of for profit outlets.
18. We are the 1%ers, The rest of America who are ridiculing us are the 99%ers
19. We still Hope for Change … nickels and dimes will do !!!
20. Where’s my Obama money at … oh right Wall Street has it !!
21. Showers are just a way for the Man to control us !!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
That *could* be the moral of the story if you had another example of a "librul" acting equally as despicable as this guy. If you could demonstrate the left wing equivalent of James O’Keefe. You people love to say that "we" are as bad as "you" when bad things are done in your name, but it simply isn't true.
I disapprove of decit, lies, corruption, cheating and any other form of misconduct (period).
Wrong is wrong. I dont give exceptions if there is a "D" or and "R" by someone's name.
But, alas, Im not perfect and in the interest of full disclosure: I let hot women get away with stuff no one else can get away with. Its a blind spot I have and I know it.
I believe you, ghengis. And I'm surprised at your baseless assertion that both teams have the same playbook. I think you're as well as I am that the left really has no equivalent to what this guy did.
I will agree that the right wing tends to be a more organized bunch than the left and as such, when they decide to engage in unethical activity, it is more "effective" because of their better organizational skills.
that's different, he's a liberal. Meanwhile, it shows you how weak minded, unorganized and easily led these protestors are. That an unknown person could easily sway a group of people to break into the museum goes to prove how utterly rudderless and dangerous this mob is. It reminds men of that scene in Star Wars when OB1 waves his hand at a guard and imposes his will on him to the astonishment of Luke.
Of course there are leftist agitators inciting violence and disorderly conduct in other cities. Funny no howls from the libs about pepper spray now. Meanwhile the use of pepper spray in this incident was justified as it was in the other incidents. The simple fact that this group of people could be led in such a manner is totally lost on the libs. That was probably his reason for doing it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

It's not possible to undermine these lunatics by acting outrageously, short of lighting yourself on fire.
And when MediaMatters criticizes on the basis of what's "journalism" or not, it's pure comedy.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

when your protest is made up of people crapping on themselves and others what are you going to do to undermine that?
you have pretty much made the Occupy movement un-underminableComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Moral of the story:

Which is ultimately meaningless because they have convinced the populace to join in the "lesser of two evils fallacy".
treehugger87Oct 10, 2011
That *could* be the moral of the story if you had another example of a "librul" acting equally as despicable as this guy. If you could demonstrate the left wing equivalent of James O’Keefe. You people love to say that "we" are as bad as "you" when bad things are done in your name, but it simply isn't true.
ghengiskhan1Oct 10, 2011
I disapprove of decit, lies, corruption, cheating and any other form of misconduct (period).
Wrong is wrong. I dont give exceptions if there is a "D" or and "R" by someone's name.
But, alas, Im not perfect and in the interest of full disclosure: I let hot women get away with stuff no one else can get away with. Its a blind spot I have and I know it.
treehugger87Oct 10, 2011
I believe you, ghengis. And I'm surprised at your baseless assertion that both teams have the same playbook. I think you're as well as I am that the left really has no equivalent to what this guy did.
ghengiskhan1Oct 10, 2011
