Everyone seems to be forgetting about this self serving corrupted mogul.
stevanoskiDec 8, 2011
Out of curiosity are there any Dem. self servng corrupted moguls or are they all Rep.s?
anomaly100Dec 8, 2011
I only am aware of one, Conservative or otherwise that's a corrupted owner of a 'news source' or at least HIS company. Are you justifying the actions under his command which led to the parents of a kidnapped child to believe she was still alive -- only to hack her calls and get more information for his scummy paper. Do you condone that behavior?
There is not one news source left or right, that has committed such unconscionable behavior
skyislandDec 8, 2011
Fox News should have lost its license to broadcast due to the fact it deliberately sabotaged the Climate Summit in Copenhagen.. Reporter was ordered to belittle strength of argument for immediate adoption of scientifically sound decisive plan to lower greenhouse gas emissions.. Life, Life of all living creatures large and small is in more jeopardy today as a result..
The oil tycoon grip on power represented by Koch brothers and their interest in manipulation of the media to gain power through politics is behind the News Corp conglomerate of Rupert Murdoch.
Here is a link describing what happened http://www.juancole.com/2010/12/fox-management-ordered-reporters-to-spin-global-warming.html
My name is Dale Lanan and I make my case in comments there.
- This is time sensitive information because Climate Summit in Durban, South Africa is about to conclude. COP-17 two years after Copenhagen looks likely to end without a serious plan.. If it does and is let stand the Earth will die because the amount of overheat will remove conditions suitable for life.. To back up that claim look at the size and potency of latent carbon deposits in the Arctic and information that has recently come out.. Also look at report of costs increases expected and increases in emissions reductions needed if delay in taking needed action happens by even a few years..
ninhDec 8, 2011
If they had managed that it would be a great public service. I'd be reluctant to give them credit though.
skyislandDec 8, 2011
First on urgency of taking action to stop greenhouse gas emissions. Check out the volumes and time scale for release of Arctic carbon deposits vulnerable to rising global temperatures for self sustained release. http://thinkprogress.org/romm/2011/12/01/379675/nature-climate-experts-thawing-permafrost-warming-of-deforestation/
skyislandDec 8, 2011
Second on cost increase of delay in taking action to stop greenhouse gas emissions.. How delay will make chances of stopping runaway global overheat rapidly wither on the vine to be essentially unachievable in short order. http://yubanet.com/world/Delay-in-climate-decisions-will-cost-more-as-we-head-to-3-5-degrees-C-of-warming-say-scientists.php#.TuD3xFZcWt8

On the wall above where I should be sleeping is a picture I had commissioned by artist sent to Copenhagen to report on what was happening through art during the Climate Summit.
If a carpenter in Colorado, former carpenter who built or rather worked on houses and stuff can have a say in the world. It would be for peace.. Peace so people can sleep at night knowing there are defenders and sense of community.
Real community in the world where people look out for others and not simply themselves.. People who would act to protect the Common Good and defend others who wish to close their eyes in knowledge the world simply is safe..

Now Stevanoski, you know good and well there are.

he's not even American, I don't understand how this is legal
ageofmasteryDec 8, 2011
He is a naturalized American citizen. He traded in his Australian citizenship to be able to buy more US media properties several years ago.
cosmicsurferDec 8, 2011
He was able to do that all with a little help from his owned puppet - Newt
treehugger87Dec 8, 2011
He's rich. Nothing else matters.
Closed AccountDec 8, 2011
yes it does
you can always buy an investors visa, but manipulating politics is another matter completely
treehugger87Dec 8, 2011
It didn't come across, but that was my point. To Congress and the business world that runs Congress nothing matters but money.
SuicideisPainlessDec 8, 2011
Whoever owns the media, controls the message
bookantDec 8, 2011
Hmmm. Isn't this the same Rupert Murdoch who's mouthpieces are always screaming about "small government"? Who are constantly opposing Net Neutrality because they want to keep the government away from the internet?
Oh, right. American conservatism = "SMALL GOVERNMENT (unless they're protecting MY business interests.)"
anomaly100Dec 10, 2011
That's the ones! They define BIG government, or should I say intrusive govt.
bookantDec 8, 2011

brucealmightyDec 8, 2011
f**k. Rupert. Murdoch.
Excuse my French but there's no other way to say it properly.
insomniax2Dec 8, 2011
I was gonna say the same, but add that he's a ****.
ghengiskhan1Dec 8, 2011
I would appreciate it if you would not associate one of my favorite things with this guy. TYVM.
GDub71Dec 8, 2011
Murdoch can go to hell. He represents everything that's wrong with the news and media industry. He is incredibly rich, yet remarkably unprincipled and here he is trying to wring a few more pennies out of the public.
MikeGeorgesDec 8, 2011
Although I agree with virtually all of the above, 'remarkably unprincipled' is difficult to swallow. It's the nature of capitalism to be unprincipled, so what is remarkable about Murdoch?
By the way, he's a US citizen; and he became one to sidestep media ownership legislation in the US.
usarugulaDec 8, 2011
Correct. Murdoch is a US citizen. His yacht, however, flies the flag of The Isle of Man. Murdoch salutes any banner that offers the opportunity to exploit a nation's resources. Nothing is done for the love of the country itself.
MikeGeorgesDec 8, 2011
That's pretty well sums up capitalists in general.
usarugulaDec 8, 2011
My problem is that Murdoch uses News Corp to promote policies that serve no other purpose than to line his pockets, but deceptively wraps it all in a package of U.S. pride and nationalism. In truth, Murdoch's News Corporation should be renamed Corporation News.
ghengiskhan1Dec 8, 2011
Im a capitalist and I do not feel that way nor do I act that way.
mikelistDec 9, 2011
but do you support him in his efforts?
miklkitDec 8, 2011
Murdoch is an extremist even by capitalist standards. Most capitalists try to pretend they are obeying the laws not actively dodging them like cheney did while running Halliburton.
spatula7Dec 8, 2011
But his media has no value, so how can it be piracy? In fact his media is pollution for which he should be charged a premium to clean up. Rupert Murdoch owes society billions of dollars from causing pain and suffering. We need a Rupert remediation now.
johnnysoftwareDec 8, 2011
He is an Australian citizen, so I don't know how appropriate that would be.
Does he want to block news of white collar crime in Britain from reaching the USA?
Piracy, that's taking something that does not belong to you like many thousands of voice mail messages, right?
And then printing it without permissions millions of times, and charging people for a copy of what you did not lawfully obtain -- that's violating an intellectual property rights, isn't it?
grymusDec 8, 2011
"He is an Australian citizen"
WRONG
On 4 September 1985, Murdoch became a naturalized citizen to satisfy the legal requirement that only US citizens were permitted to own American television stations. This resulted in Murdoch losing his Australian citizenship under S17 of Australian Citizenship Act of 1948.
devinemoneymanDec 8, 2011
rupert murdoch wants you to liston to his media Bu*ls*it. and not the online raw media. or chats
mlw4428Dec 8, 2011
Seriously, when will he f**king die? There is NOTHING good about this man and the sooner he's 6ft under ground the sooner the world can move on and improve without his evil ass in it.
Mark my words: you cannot, no will not, filter or otherwise control the internet. It is impossible because there will ALWAYS be a way around things. Encryption, VPNs, darknets, they will ALL continue to function. Soon there will be distributed DNS systems with no central authority and soon after that
Understand that people WILL wage virtual war over this. Keep pressing the wrong buttons and Sony will look like a defacement compared to what will happen.
cntlscrutDec 8, 2011
thats the problem is that people like Murdoch only under stand money. Plain and simple. Their only understanding of technology is of what they can control. they could care less how a device actually works as long as they can control it and the users... all in the name of money and bulls**t political agendas.
rockweilerDec 9, 2011
there are few people that i even dislike, in the case of murdoch however i would like to set up a business selling tickets for people to urinate on his grave.
jerroldsDec 8, 2011
f**k you Murdoch - youre a cancer on society.
devinemoneymanDec 8, 2011
rupert murdck can kiss my a*s. that treasonous pr*ck
treehugger87Dec 8, 2011
It won't be long before the Digg "conservatives" get here with their talking points. This attempt to squeeze out non-Murdoch media will be presented as the only way to ensure liberty on the Internet, and any attempts at restricting companies ability to squeeze bandwidth with be decried as censorship.
skyislandDec 8, 2011
Monday there is a day of action to unify Union and Grassroots rebellion of the 99 at ports throughout the United States and the World.. It is put together by in part the existence of the internet and the communications that enables.. Like the power of 17 on line activists in Libya who founded Feb17 movement for journalistic excellence in providing information on rebellion of demonstrations turned freedom fighter that outed the cruelty of Gaddafi.
NO planes will come this time to back the volume of the uprising for good government this time, nor is it possible to undo the change that is rapidly sweeping the world today.. The People have had enough of delay and government that does not represent the interests of both the citizenry of the world and the protection of the planet that sustains us, Earth..
niteryderDec 8, 2011
Rupert sir, you need to withdraw to Australia and keep your news there and stay out of US issues and lifestyles
fastplasticDec 8, 2011
Simple fix if this passes. Simply hack the 350 websites of his corporations, upload copyrighted material to their servers and report them to their ISP. Bing bang boom all 350 sites are taken down and the law is repealed.
BuckSwallowsDec 8, 2011
SOPA and Protect IP are virtually the same thing. One from the House the other from the Senate. Either way one of them, or maybe even both, has a good chance of passing into law. What we should be doing is focusing our efforts on making sure NEITHER of them ever gets brought up for vote (bipartisanly if possible). Instead here we are bickering back and forth over which one is more draconian because Murdoch prefers the House's version? Let's get real people! It's all a freaking game being used to persuade us into favoring one overreaching piece of legislation over the other.
johnnysoftwareDec 8, 2011
They should agree and block him.
Or any organization that steals information from thousands of computer/phone accounts and then uses it for personal gain and/or corporate profits.
Give him and his corporations the 'Kevin Mitnick' treatment: no access to electronic devices for half a decade and then only supervised limited access to computers for one or more years after that. Plus, a need to report regularly to a probation officer and totally avoid involvement or contact of any kind with crime or people who engage in crime.
Like, duh.

blacklilyninjaDec 8, 2011
why should he care? isnt he 8000 years old already?
skyislandDec 8, 2011
He is on a mission.. His empire includes family and is backed by Koch brothers family Oil and media control empire to affect through politics what can not be accomplished by overt takeover.. A brainwashed public easily led due to actual callous attack on truth and values such as right and wrong and the insertion of the idea we are all in it for personal gain as a propaganda slogan destroying lives.
Rupert Murdoch is Koch brothers hired hand.. An expert at delusion and presenting a lie which is rebroadcast on main stream media also under tight control of only other way most people get news and information through TV..
The internet is interactive communications that can make change and information rapidly expand as is necessary in democracy and for keeping Earth alive.

karmashockDec 9, 2011
Oh good, another 80 year old telling us how to run the internet.
ghengiskhan1Dec 8, 2011
I really hate people that try to restrict my freedom. Its enough to make me log off the internet for a while and write some sternly worded letters. I think I will use the letters F and U.
