I'd be a lot more impressed with Ron Paul if it didn't feel like this was more about appeasing his internet following than integrity.
rattelerDec 17, 2010
I don't care why he does it. His voting record is proof enough for me. He talks the talk, and Walks the walk. Even the issues I don't agree with him on, like Health Care, I still have NO DOUBT he believes he is correct on. If all republicans were like Ron Paul, we would be on the edge of Civil Class War,

The guy has always take a no nonsense approach to how US government should operate. The fact that every time this guy opens his mouth and every one just turns deaf and blind at the same time says a lot of how government really works and why most Americans really have a IQ in the mid two digit range.
Closed AccountDec 10, 2010
That's because Ron Paul's motivations have nothing to do with sustaining the income disparity here in America. Reforming our government would mean taking money away from the top 1% of earners who are currently making a killing exploiting the working middle class. Those top 1% of earners own billion dollar corporations that can afford to turn off the ears of Paul's companions.
herojonDec 11, 2010
Funny you say that since most of Dr. Paul's economic views go in sharp contrast to the wealth-redistributing leftists economically. But you are in fact very right, that doing things the Libertarian way would end exploitation of the middle class.
Closed AccountDec 11, 2010
I am familiar with this particular aspect of his policies.
What I meant to convey is that the upper 1% gained their wealth in an illegitimate way, and the end of their exploitative regime would close many doors of revenue for these scam artists. So, it's not redistribution by mandate or policy, but more of a natural equilibrium that would ensue from better business practices. It would be an effect, not a cause. You get rid of the "free slop" sign, and the pigs go elsewhere.
For instance, if corporate fraud carried a penalty similar to theft or burglary, served to the fullest extent, there wouldn't be as much bread in the basket of thieves.
gordonfreeman42Dec 11, 2010
Not that I disagree completely, but your blanket statements seem a little extreme. When you say the upper 1%, you're actually talking about 3 million people, to claim that each and everyone one of them is a scammer is rather baseless. I would say most of them gained their money in a completely legitimate way, and should be called capitalists, not criminals.
Just throwing this out there, but a vast percentage of meaningful philanthropy comes from the demonized "upper 1%" Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg , Andrew Carnegie. Just saying.
Closed AccountDec 11, 2010
You're right- it's a generalization. It would be impossible to name every name that needs to be named (tongue twister, anybody?). Those who have committed no fraud would have nothing to lose from reform, at least I would hope.
Thank you for pointing out the bias of my tone above. I sincerely revere those who have made an honest living and achieved such great success doing so. I certainly wouldn't mean to demonize them.

This is why we need top down revue of the wealthiest 2% of this nation to determine if their wealth was earned lawfully and according to the Constitutional intent "promote the general welfare". If they are found to have violated that Constitutional intent with their business practices, their wealth should be taken just like recouping money stolen by a bank robber. They should also be financially responsible for damages caused by their misappropriation, as well as the pain and suffering it caused.
Any attempt to flee this Justice with their ill gotten gains should be treated as Treason.
Those that have been found to at least try and improve the nation, should be allowed to keep their wealth. Those who have taken a personal responsibility to rectify damages they may have done should be allowed protected from civil damages.
The rest deserve to loose everything.

I agree with you and it upsets me. Do these people have no souls? No conscience? Besides that do they not know the that men and women fought a seemingly unbeatable enemy and many of which died just so that they and all of us, the future generations, could be free of monarchy and pursue any good life we wish? Just because they have left this world does not make it any less real, and they throw back in their faces and in ours by accepting money for their vote. They are no better than a tyrant.

gigadroneDec 11, 2010
He's a Libertarian... "Doesn't give a f**k" fits right in with his political agenda. You make him sound altruistic.. much like people conflated Arlen Specter and Joe Lieberman as being 'above the fray'. Ron Paul would not embrace 'income disparity'. If anything, he'd see to it that many of the government transfer payments that keep income disparity in check (as far as can actually be measured, it's still getting worse), wind up like Ol' Yeller.. dragged out to the field and shot. You make an interesting point, but most conservatives will find his statements to be purely playing devils advocate. As such, I don't really think what he said was all that ground breaking.. just kind of.. not interesting. Personally, I love what Wikileaks does, and cheer on Julian Assange much in the way I'd cheer on Billy the Kid. Everybody loves the underdog!
bdbrDec 11, 2010
I'm not a fan of Assange; he is a pompous prick who is branded a hero for the suffering of the person who leaked the information, and he shows no remorse for that whatsoever.
However - even as a non-fan, I can't disagree with a single thing that Paul says in this speech.

I listen to winnybibby as I do SynicusMaximus. Please note the capitalization, it makes me curious. I unfold the trash people throw out, as it is not wise to ignore honesty. And one should always be honest with one's self. There is a place for everyone in this world, some taking longer in finding it than others... But, to be blind/deaf to the people?

I gotta hand it to Ron Paul to have the guts to go against the 1984 mentality our government seems to propagating. You know the only way to combat this is to make the voices of the population louder than those in in power and not to let ourselves become distracted (that is the biggest way that these problems continue). You see the riots in Britain over increases in college tuition. What do we do that rivals that? I applaud Ron Paul and Anonymous for not allowing the leak to be spun into something it's not. What else can WE do, any ideas?

Complain about the price of education. Education=Slavery. Indentured servitude, etc. Probably won't make a difference unless a school is being re-certified.
You know what you know, or you don't, or can't. The educational system should not be a predator, though. So, go forth, and speak about your concerns. Someone will be listening.

I have a love hate relationship with Mr.Paul. An interesting person that carries so much sense in one hand and bats**t insanity in the other.
cajunmetalDec 11, 2010
Any examples of his 'bats**t insanity'?
brsox2445Dec 11, 2010
Just that he is in the same party as Michelle Bachmann.
wuwei26Dec 11, 2010
So not really "bats**t" insanity, but he supports ending the estate tax (Source: House Resolution Sponsorship 01-HR8 on Mar 14, 2001) and doesn't support the theory of evolution (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPoCsC8VT9g&feature=player_embedded#!)...
He is basically very socially conservative, voting to end the distinction between a zygote and a human being and has been anti-choice his whole career. That being said, I changed my voter registration in CA in the last presidential election cycle to vote for him in the primary. End the income tax and US out of everywhere trumps the rest of it...
firefox15Dec 11, 2010
While you can disagree with it, that definitely isn't "bats**t insanity" (as you pointed out). A large percentage of America believes in what you mentioned. When I think of "bats**t insanity," I think of something no one could get behind. Something like Westburo Baptist Church.
isuzu14bDec 11, 2010
He supports ending all taxes, if im not mistaken. So the estate tax is just thrown in the mix.
Disregard for the theory of evolution is rather troubling, although if he were to support intelligent design via evolution i would see no problem.
I definitely disagree with him on abortion.
His stance on taxes is actually pretty constitutionally justified, though im not sure how the government can run without them. How did this work prior to the 16th amendment? BTW, the 16th amendment is definitely worth reviewing... Im not saying that it should be reconsidered, I am saying that the language of it should be investigated to ensure that it is being followed properly.
And even though voting for him is a compromise for me in many ways, I would gladly vote for him any day. He is the only politician i have ever donated money to, and i am proud of it. He has INTEGRITY. He means what he says.
Go RON PAUL!
herojonDec 11, 2010
The thing you have to realize is, even if he doesn't agree with evolution, he fully supports anyone's right to believe it or teach it and thinks the government should not force that on people.
People who pick their votes based on someones beliefs rather than how they would choose to govern are an example of the problem with a majority rule vote based system. Good for you that you aren't one of those people!
isuzu14bDec 11, 2010
Agree'd.
spuy767Dec 11, 2010
He believes that the estate tax in unconstitutional on the basis that it is double taxation, which it is. At the absolute most, you can call an estate a capital gain, whereby you sould only be able to tax it based on the difference in value at purchase.
cold0008Dec 11, 2010
I wouldn't call my opinion of him a love/hate relationship. I agree with him on some issues (even though our motivations are often different) and disagree with him on others. It's best not to divide things into those we love and those we hate, but work together on those things we agree on and argue about those things that we do not.
It's that type of thinking that has made our political climate so insane. Everyone can agree that the government spends too much money on stupid s**t, but instead of finding the things that we both consider stupid s**t, but instead we just take the opposite positions of our opponents.
I would not vote for Dr Paul and I think a lot of his ideas are wrong, but I and most liberals share a lot of common ground with him and I hope my fellow liberals and Dr Paul's supporters can concentrate on those things, instead of the issues that neither of us will budge on.

If RP would have been President he would have been removed as soon as possible. It would have been though because we can't stand the truth. While I believe him a bit far fetched on some things, he has an overall perspective that has credence. We have been sweeping it all under the carpet for a long time. Some will lift up the carpet and point out the mess. Some may lift it and apply a quick kick of dirt out from under it. RP would have not only swept up from under but taken the carpet out back for a beating. No one can take that much to set things right in such an invasive action. We need to take more action along his lines but it will hurt. If we don't hurt a little soon we will hurt a great deal later. We need to pull our head out of the sand and face up.
