Republicans only call it class warfare when their victims fright back.
devilgoobNov 26, 2011
They talk about kids not getting out more and being naive.
I did not know they took kids seriously about loving modern warfare.

The basis of Republican politics is to divide. That's why they race bait, hate on gays, and try to get the middle class to blame the poor... Meanwhile, those at the top keep stealing more and more. It's all divide and distract politics.

I've never thought of or described Cain as "a black man who doesn't know his place" nor have I seen anyone else suggest that. I disagree with Cain on most issues. That's why I don't support him. And if any Digg liberals posted anti-gay remarks I would digg them down the same way I digg down any conservative who said anything anti-gay. The funny thing is, I've never seen any liberal on here say anything anti-gay. I can't say the same for conservatives.

Check out old Digg Threads in the politics section... They are littered with "Closed Account" comments from conservatives who get banned (often for saying stupid homophobic or racist comments). I'm not saying the liberals on this site never say stupid mean spirited things (they do), but they don't cross the same line that is crossed every day by some of the more radically conservative members. Why do they say those things? Because they want to divide and distract.

austi - That is absolutely THE MOST RIDICULOUS STATEMENT I have ever seen posted on this site. No matter which side of the ideological fence one might be on.
Conservative Accounts get closed because there is NO ORGANIZED LIBERAL effort to mass report and bury. /s
Also, one can get banned for simply making a disparaging comment to one of Diggs Sacred Cows.
Some of the absolute worst filth and vulgarity I have seen on here is ROUTINELY posted by liberals. Fishenator, Novenator, kuppajava (and his 4 or 5 alternate persona that have popped up lately.)
With that statement, you lost any claim to legitimacy you may have ever had.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Check out old Digg Threads in the politics section... They are littered with "Closed Account" comments from conservatives who get banned..."
Exclusion from groups happens because of more than just "violating" some agreement, it can also happen because of some bias from the controllers of that group. Thus, it might be that some of these closed accounts could be a reflection of the bias of moderators rather than the actual posts of the individual (I am reserving my judgment here since I don't recall ever having seen a post that got a poster banned).
As a self-test, for example, which of the following statements are more inflammatory to you (and thus needs to be quelled)?
(1) Flaming f*ggots should all catch HIV and die
(2) Those Right-wing religious nuts should be lined up and shot.
or
(3) Neither upsets me.
(apologies to anyone taking affront at either of these statements_)
Here's the thing, if you were a moderator and chose either (1) or (2)--you could be biasing your banning decisions.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Nommie outs one of her sock puppet accounts on that Maddow story the other day as does Novey. Fannie and Freddie were late to the game. they were more of a VICTIM than a Culprit
johnnysoftwareNov 26, 2011
Enabler. They were the catcher. Banks, some anyway, let a lot of bad, fundamentally dishonest loans.
They did it at the same point banks in general were telling the US government that they wanted to do business with people in the US who didn't have a Social Security Number (SSN) or any other kind of federal tracking number; basically, just anonymous holders of cash -- much like a lot of criminal organizations' employees.
Anyway, they created the messed up loans, sold them to Wall Street firms, who then amalgamated them with other crumby investments and called them mortgage-backed securities.
Those then got sold to financial/banking firms in foreign countries, and like you point out, here too.
Had nobody bought the bad loans then the banks would have stopped making them.
Right?
njatc99Nov 26, 2011
See this American Enterprise speech from 2003? They talked about how Fannie Mae were not doing ENOUGH to help minority buyers.
AEI American Enterprise Institute in 2003 said THIS about Fannie and Freddie http://www.aei.org/article/economics/fannie-mae-and-freddie-mac/
"Fannie and Freddie suggest that they provide special assistance to minority families hoping to become homeowners. And if they did this disproportionately--that is, helped minorities or low income borrowers more than they helped middle class borrowers--that would be a powerful argument for preserving their current status."
"But they do not do this. Instead, according to a study by Jonathan Brown of Essential Information, a Nader-related group, Fannie and Freddie buy proportionately fewer conventional conforming loans that banks make in minority areas than they buy in middle class white areas.
Other studies have shown that the automated underwriting systems that Fannie and Freddie use to select the mortgages they will buy approve fewer minority homebuyers than similar automated underwriting systems used by mortgage insurers."
The sad fact is that Fannie and Freddie--two government sponsored enterprises that have a government housing-related mission--do less for minority housing than ordinary commercial banks.
Studies have repeatedly shown that banks and other loan originators make more loans to minority borrowers than Fannie and Freddie will buy.
That in itself should be a scandal, together with the fact that both companies seek through their soft- focus advertising to create the impression that they are actually using their government benefits for the disadvantaged in our society

massron, There is a difference between making loans more available to those who can afford them and predatory lending practices. That's what conservatives fail to realize. When these things started getting *pushed* on people to "reinvest in the equity of their homes!!!" as a matter of derivative gambling, it became predatory.
You can blame tens of millions of Americans all day long, but when the zombie box propaganda tells them over and over and over and over to do something, they'll usually do it. Where is the sense of personal responsibility from these people. You also had the Clinton administration greasing the skids for the housing meltdown as far back as 1994.
http://news.investors.com/Article/589858/201110310805/Housing-Crisis-Obama-Clinton-Subprime.htm
Rewind to 1994. That year, the federal government declared war on an enemy — the racist lender — who officials claimed was to blame for differences in homeownership rate, and launched what would prove the costliest social crusade in U.S. history.
At President Clinton's direction, no fewer than 10 federal agencies issued a chilling ultimatum to banks and mortgage lenders to ease credit for lower-income minorities or face investigations for lending discrimination and suffer the related adverse publicity. They also were threatened with denial of access to the all-important secondary mortgage market and stiff fines, along with other penalties.
Bubble? Regulators Blew It
The threat was codified in a 20-page "Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending" and entered into the Federal Register on April 15, 1994, by the Interagency Task Force on Fair Lending. Clinton set up the little-known body to coordinate an unprecedented crackdown on alleged bank redlining.
The edict — completely overlooked by the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and the mainstream media — was signed by then-HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, Attorney General Janet Reno, Comptroller of the Currency Eugene Ludwig and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, along with the heads of six other financial regulatory agencies.
"The agencies will not tolerate lending discrimination in any form," the document warned financial institutions.
Ludwig at the time stated the ruling would be used by the agen cies as a fair-lending enforcement "tool," and would apply to "all lenders" — including banks and thrifts, credit unions, mortgage brokers and finance companies.

It is real, it is rampant and it was predation that created 99% of the real estate boom and bubble that nearly destroyed us.
Evilswine32Nov 25, 2011
Actually the banks were more than happy to loan to people who couldn't afford homes by baiting them into terms they couldn't meet. They want you to default so they get the house, and with the way things were going housing prices were constantly going up so it was a win for them. That is until the bubble burst. The banks were the ones more than happy to give sub-prime mortgages. It's also their, not there, kcast985. Just saying.
sattireattireNov 26, 2011
Completely wrong. It is not in the bank's best interest for you to default. It doesn't become their property, it IS their property until you pay your mortgage. However, they are protected from property taxes, maintenance, state and federal ownership taxes, etc. When you default, they accrue a huge bill. That is why they try to resell the home as soon as possible because costs build up fast.
The real problem is that freddie mac and fannie mae secured these loans. With secured loans, the banks had nothing to lose because, they already got paid back FROM Freddie and Fannie. They ALREADY have the money, therefore, you defaulting is actually going to cost them.
The problem is, the nation (not just the government) ran out of money to loan. Companies didn't grow and couldn't maintain projected costs. People got laid off. People couldn't pay their mortgage and lost their home. The banks accrued a huge cost and refused to give loans because they were in debt now. rinse and repeat.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

They had their own interests in mind. But investors did want foreclosures as housing prices wee climbing exponentially, when the bubble burst and housing prices started dropping they were left with a good investment gone bad and everyone stopped lending. There is one thing though, this whole "real Americans own homes" s**t has got to stop. Banks were also leveraging money they didn't have, something that regulation could fix.

personal responsibility my friend. just because the bank will give you a million, dont mean you can pay for it. take some responsibility for what YOU do, and stop blaming everyone else for your stupidityComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Predatory lending is just that, predatory. Lending practices were meant to make it look like a reasonable loan while in actuality it's in the banks favor. People can't see the future. We all have an optimism bias and think things will turn out better then they actually will. "I can afford it now, but will I be able to in 3 years?" Is out of most of our grasps to even think about realistically. Lenders are professional scammers, you think they're making money because everyone is stupid?

and again how is that anyone elses fault? whats the old saying? theres a sucker born every minute? If you fall for a scam, It is your own fault, Ive been screwed a time or two, but i learned and ive been ok since.
Personal responsibility is severly lacking these days, especially here on digg as shown by 20 down digs for simply saying own up for your own self
Evilswine32Nov 27, 2011
The problem with what your saying is that you're being scammed by professionals on a subject that is notoriously difficult to understand. So being conned by a professional con artist makes it your fault? You're not using logic. I can understand if this were on a minor scale, but it isn't. This is a massive problem that has nothing to do with the home owners intellect or working prowess but instead they're desire for a piece of the "American dream." It is partially their fault of course, but you can't just give lenders a free pass to take advantage, it's still underhanded and caused a disaster for the entire country. To chalk it up to a lack of personal responsibility is naive and shows a complete lack of understanding for how the system works, no offense, but that's where the twenty negative diggs come from.

I suggest you read something on this housing crisis. considering back in early 2000s organizations like CATO said Fannie was NOT doing enough to get into sub prime lending. SHOCKER!

not CATO...AEI American Enterprise Institute in 2003 said THIS about Fannie and Freddie http://www.aei.org/article/economics/fannie-mae-and-freddie-mac/
That in itself should be a scandal, together with the fact that both companies seek through their soft- focus advertising to create the impression that they are actually using their government benefits for the disadvantaged in our society.
