blogs.westword.com — After yesterday's meeting between Occupy Denver reps and Michael Hanc**k, in which the Denver mayor reiterated his opposition to letting protesters camp, relations between the city and the 99 percent are decidedly chilly. And they got even colder overnight, after those braving the temperatures were reportedly doused by sprinklers.

I can't say that the sprinklers were turned on purposefully or if the computer automatically turned them on and it was accidental. But people on the FB wall claiming that the sprinklers should have been blown out by now are completely wrong. I live in the Denver metro area, and I am still running my sprinklers and won't blow them out until at least next week.

What you said is probably a more accurate depiction of what happened. These protesters are bitching and moaning about everything under the sun it seems.... apparently you can throw automatic sprinkler systems into the complaint-bank as well.
anomaly100Oct 19, 2011
You can't silence us.
bcronosOct 20, 2011
No, but they can make you go away...
anomaly100Oct 20, 2011
No, they can't.
bcronosOct 20, 2011
We'll see... More than likely they will just go away by themselves.
Even our very liberal city and mayor have had enough of the ones here... They've completely trashed a beautiful park and a community garden and NOBODY here thinks that's cool...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

no but they can try to make the stink go away

Why are people protesting in Denver? It's one of the best job markets in the country right now. I don't know anybody having any trouble getting a job here. I do know a lot of young adults with student loans...but those aren't really Wall Street's fault.
bluto36Oct 20, 2011
hey you filthy 1%'er
you actually want them to get jobs and pay off their own loans?
you are part of the problem
anomaly100Oct 20, 2011
For solidarity.

Despite a growing economy and rapid income growth for the wealthy, the average wage in the United States is down 9.6% since the year 2000. Working people have plenty to complain about, too.
I started working when I was 11, running a paper route. I first paid taxes at age 15. I have never had a gap in my employment since earning my master's degree.
And I am PISSED! I am pissed that the corporate execs are rewarding themselves for laying off my fellow Americans. I am pissed at the banks that are too big to fail but not to big to exist. I am pissed that I have had to switch jobs 3 times in 10 years in order to see my salary go up. I am pissed that the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but that the rewards are all going to the rich. I am pissed that the rich and the rich corporations write our laws and promote them through lobbyists.
If you really think that there is nothing to protest against, you are not paying attention.
treehugger87Oct 20, 2011
Why would anyone want to silence you, Occupy Wall Street or any other voice of dissent in this country.
If there is room for right wing extremists to call on all small businesses to stop hiring people so that the economy will be sufficiently damaged that Obama will no be re-elected (http://digg.com/news/politics/tea_party_nation_wants_small_business_owners_to_cease_hiring), there certainly is room for Occupy Wall Street protesters to protest.
Everyone who wants this movement to simply go away knows nothing of freedom or individual rights.
anomaly100Oct 20, 2011
Funny that they consider themselves to be Constitutionalists while they dismiss our rights. It's just not 'ha ha' funny.
slang4catOct 20, 2011
Automatic sprinkler systems are set to go off ... automatically.
Sorry you got all wet, but no one told you to sleep there.
markglOct 20, 2011
Hehe

That's one way for the maggot-infested whiners to take a bath. Good job, Mayor (if that was you).

FTA: "Ah nice, not only are they actively trying to curb free speech but they're doing it through the use of precious fresh water. Says so much. Wish I could help.
Break those sprinklers that we all paid for!"
Denver uses non potable water to water the parks and plants there. So not much lost.
And advocating the destruction of public property seems par for the course for "peaceful" protesters like these.
pygonOct 20, 2011
You've got the right to assemble, not be comfortable.
lastvisibledogOct 20, 2011
Camping on private property is not speech
...just saying
spc4Oct 20, 2011
OWC is not a protest movement, it is a riot movement.
alanocuOct 20, 2011
Now they are getting free showers at the taxpayers expense. Did anyone drop off soap for them?
bluto36Oct 20, 2011
yes it truly was a public service from a caring public servant
novenatorOct 19, 2011
Stay classy tools of Wall Street!
bcronosOct 20, 2011
Really?... Please explain how the Denver mayor is a tool of Wall Street...
novenatorOct 20, 2011
So it was the mayor that flipped the switch?
bcronosOct 20, 2011
It was probably a timer that flipped the switch. But the mayor probably ordered the timer set... Who were YOU calling a tool of Wall Street?
BTW, They've completely trashed a beautiful park and community gardens here, causing $20,000 in damage... I bet they expect someone else to pick up the tab for that too...
Or are you guys actually going to take responsibility for your actions and pay for the damage you've caused to other people's property?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
anomaly100Oct 20, 2011
OMG, they trashed a park! Well Wall Street trashed the economy. Let's call it less than even.
JS76Oct 20, 2011
It was just Wall Street?
The banks had a big hand in all this - CDS and MBS allowed them to intensely magnify the effects of securitizing the mortgages they underwrote. There were still people on the other side of the desk who signed those mortgages and agreed to the terms.
Why does nobody ever put any blame on the people who agreed to take the money?
ryanwbOct 20, 2011
You should see the park over near my work that was trashed by over flow crowd of drunk hippies at Oktoberfest where 25 people were arrested. Clearly someone has to clean that up, who will take responsibility? They completely trashed a beautiful park, some assh**e kicked in a light rail ticketing kiosk at the cost of $2200.00, other smashed cars and windows of businesses.
Why aren't you over here bitching and moaning? How do we contact you? Do I just Google "Whining Moaning Bitch"?
bcronosOct 20, 2011
The Oktoberfest organizers were required to buy a permit and as a provision of that permit they are required to buy a bond (insurance, for the ignorant) that pays for any damages...
In other words, they paid their own way...
So, are you guys actually going to take responsibility for your actions and pay for the damage you've caused to other people's property?
(insult, childish name calling, rant, Google "neophyte")
ryanwbOct 20, 2011
They bought a permit , but the damage occured in a park that the hooligans took to outside the confines of the Oktoberfest. According to the news, the organizers put up fences to eliminate that liability, anything that takes place outside of that fence is no longer their issue and is a city problem. Part of the issue was it was free admission. The city is now saying they will not issue another permit next year.
So once again, why did you not come flying in to bitch and moan? I mean you have become a complete liberal on preserving the beauty of our parks, why aren't you outraged?
ryanwbOct 20, 2011
A remember neophyte from my days as a catholic school boy, it's a recently ordained priest (I believe less than 1 year). So WTF does that have to do with anything?
ryanwbOct 20, 2011
I've been married for 15 years, I can deal with whining and bitching - but that's what chicks do. You're a dude, turn off Oprah, take the cucumber slices out of your eyes, dry your tears and do something manly. ESPN has a 24 hour news program, go do that - just stop bitching.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bluto36Oct 20, 2011
dont digg up many comments with oprah and cucumber slices in em...
not bad
anomaly100Oct 20, 2011
LOL! I like you.
drmangrumOct 20, 2011
You do know that nearly all sprinkler systems are set to run at night so as not to waste water through evaporation right?
right?
nihilOct 19, 2011
Tinfoil hats unite! Not like those sprinklers come on automatically or anything. I'm sure someone came in at 3am to turn them on.
bluto36Oct 20, 2011
the 300 bars of soap the mayor sent over first should have been a clue
