The people in power are just dumb. This is retarded - why can't the arrange things properly? Cracking down on protesters is just underscoring their own lawlessnes and desperation.
This could be arranged quite simply with a little forethought. Have a bunch of cops go through a day before and tell everybody that they will be evicted the next day, being as polite as possible. Give out leaflets outlining the laws they are breaking, if any, and add suggested alternatives for the protests, with references to a web site or something. Film that encounter. Again, be polite.
Then the next day, show up a few hours early, and once again, repeat the exercise. Then again. Film it all - invite the press if you have to. Then, if you have to, start rounding up people, but do it humanely, with as little force as possible. Have a guy on a megaphone repeat several times requests to disperse, and again refer to other legal things that the protesters can do.
An operation like that would go miles towards humanizing the cops and making things more civilized. It would cool everything down, and paint both the cops and the protesters as reasonable people. The cops are for the most part just doing their jobs, after all - the problem is that this whole thing is incredibly mismanaged.

my question to the occupiers would be "if you know that they do this, frequently, and with warning (for the most part), why arent you all just ready to get up and leave as soon as they get there and then return once they (the cops) are gone?"
kind of like a highschool party. someone says "COPS!" and everyone bails for a bit and then comes back once the cops are gone

I think its equal parts that some people actually want the conflict and think the Police action advances their goals and keeps OWS on the radar and others really honestly think its their free speech right to be there and refuse on principle.

video shows taxpayers dollars hard at work taking money from the taxpayer while arresting the taxpayer, something definately sounds strange here! Round two: since the world runs on supply and demand, then i call for us to organize an online website to pass information around to the public to show which corporations run a honest and truthful company and to get information out and boycott those that are against the American cause, one for instance is Monsanto, we must boycott these bastards , because their genetically altered plants and seeds are corrupting mother natures own process and could destroy the natural process of growing plants on this planet! We aren't done making a stand. When will they show video of the plane that hit the pentagon, we are still fighting for the truth of 9-11 too!
You tell me:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J8ojEWlkrs

We want some f**king justice in this country or should we just mass and make one sweep and change it without those in the ways to lie and hold us back?
Why they got to lie to the taxpayers that pay for all this s**t?

Goodbye OWS nobody cared or supported you.

Does anyone out there respect the law any more? I believe it was J. Edger Hoover that said...anyone that is taught how to live by the laws of God, will have little difficulty in living by the laws of man.

"Despite recent forewarning of the potential assault on the camp, protesters seemed disorganized and unprepared to mount any effective defense."
You know what an effective defense is? Leaving places you aren't supposed to be camping in. Of course then you can't claim the Police are brutally oppressing your free speech rights. Although I guess to really claim that you'd actually have to be engaged in speaking and unfortunately camping illegally on public or private land isn't actually speech.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

yes, because being in a park for "too long" is a heinous offense that deserves teargas and beatings.
GoldJacketFeb 6, 2012
Yeah that's a shame, they were doing great things.
particleman420Feb 6, 2012
and that justifies teargas and beatings?
GoldJacketFeb 6, 2012
You're probably right, those occupiers did nothing to provoke those police officers.
particleman420Feb 6, 2012
do you have any evidence that they did? Of course you dont.
but i'm sure the cops totally didnt already have it planned out and i'm sure they showed up without the riot gear and teargas cannisters.

They weren't removed for being in the park too long, they were removed because they had pitched tents and other structures and were living there.
And what do you think is going to happen to people who are asked to leave peacefully refuse to do so? They choose violence (and yes, I realize there is a different in the level of violence needed to achieve the goal and that Police shouldn't be shooting people with rubber bullets or hitting them in the head when they could just be carrying them off).
particleman420Feb 6, 2012
you notice i'm not complaining about the "removal" of them?
you must have, since you avoided the things that i brought up, in order to skirt around answering the question and addressing the issue of the excessive violence being justified by breaking local zoning ordinances
barackalypseFeb 6, 2012
Uhh, what part of me saying "Police shouldn't be shooting people with rubber bullets or hitting them in the head when they could just be carrying them off" suggests I was ignoring the issue of Police violence?
OWS is a dream scenario for me. If the Police beat the protesters I win because it shows how abusive the Government is and if they don't I win because the protesters then get to show America what militant liberalism looks with the squalor and drug use and wacky ideas about what the Government should do for people.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

regulating the financial sector is "wacky"?
barackalypseFeb 6, 2012
No, I was more thinking ones like:
"Demand four: Free college education."
"Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all."
"Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies."

Police are getting adept at clearing out the smelly Fleabaggers.
Notice how the Tea Party protests are clean, orderly, and patriotic...whereas the dirty Fleabaggers leave every place nasty, filled with garbage and human waste, and condemn America and its values.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
seidnuFeb 6, 2012
yea but the fact that the biggest part of the tea party is conservative racist nut jobs that tarnishes them worse then the occupiers wheres David_Niven He is alot more nice and reasonable then you are
snarqFeb 6, 2012
I guess you don't realize that someone who spits such vile insults at fellow citizens whom are only protesting inequality and the departure from American values of freedom and liberty for all due to economic corruption is likely a prime example of someone "filled with garbage and human waste, and condemn(s) America and its values."
Pity, because the irony is delicious.
:)
tehravenFeb 6, 2012
yea, like in 2010 when they were spitting at and shouting racial slurs at congressmen at one of their protests? Reaaaaaaal clean, orderly and patriotic . . .
davidnivenFeb 7, 2012
That never happened. It was debunked a long time ago. Video and audio recordings show the racial slurs never happened.
vitriolandangstFeb 7, 2012
David, the 1930's called and wanted their fascism back.
The Tea Baggers showed up for a few hours, got their Fox News exclusive, and got back on their Racals to cash their government checks. Of COURSE they get permits with slogans like; "Get regulations out of Wall Street" and the bravely statement "Lower Taxes on Job Creators!" Wow, you'd think the status quo would be shaking in it's boots with cries for Government to stop doing government things. Yeah, that will show the corrupt!
They really missed the opportunity to advertise for "FREE BLOW JOBS for TRUMP" as I'm sure you'd be volunteering.
