When was the last time a pro-lifer was beaten to death because they were "perceived" to be pro-life?????
laborerFeb 8, 2012
Humans have suffered unthinkable violence from each other throughout our history. Many times for ugly reasons such as prejudice, but sometimes for something as simple as shoes.
Sure. Those are ugly instances.
But walking around a university campus in America, you better not be anything but a liberal or progressive. Not if you dont want to be shunned as an evil Dirty Earth'er, Gay Hater.
Either their idea of society, or the highway primitive.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I dont see the gay community as worried about brutal murders in northern Africa.
Innocent people are robbed and attacked everyday because they have nice things on them [or the possibility of money], I dont see people up in arms worrying about protecting those with wealth. Quite the opposite.
What is the difference between a man physically beaten to death on the streets for being gay and another for refusing to hand over money? They were both brutally murdered, only one is mentioned at a parade.
These people who commit these violent actions are bullies. If they dont find an outlet in one area, its easy for them to have a different target. Bullies dont need a reason.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Feel free to go to Northern Africa and fix their political, judicial and police system. You can start by changing their system of government, and holding a violent coup or something to get rid of the militia.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will worry about civil rights in a country we live in and can actually do something about, thanksmuch.

What about violent crime committed against American inner city whites by minority gangs?
When there is a beating or a killing, there is rarely a peep for some kind of inner city White Pride parade to commemorate the brutalized youth[s].
It wouldnt even be allowed.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
spectecjrFeb 8, 2012
No, but usually violent crime in gang areas happens:
a) among rival gangs, not randomly
b) in very specific areas (usually a 1 or 2 block area that if you're outside of, your fine)
c) due to turf, drug or other fights
And when it happens? We lock up the perpetrators.
If you dislike this situation, however, start a movement. That's how things happen. People get of their asses, stop moaning and do something - and like-minded people will get together with them.
You have the power to do this too, for whatever pet causes you /do/ support. And it'll get you further and be way more fulfilling than mindless, pointless bitching about the causes you don't.
laborerFeb 8, 2012
You must not live near a city.
In Tacoma, violent crime happens anywhere and everywhere.
A gang is any group of people, drugs and organized crime need not be involved.
Some are more likely to be group together and roam the streets looking for trouble. Some others are more likely to be alone and the subjects of it.
Who can we point our finger at? How can we legislate the problem away?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"What is the difference between a man physically beaten to death on the streets for being gay and another for refusing to hand over money? They were both brutally murdered, only one is mentioned at a parade."
Well for one, the victim in the second situation could have prevented his beating by handing over the money. The victim in the first situation could not have prevented his beating. If you are gay, you just can't act "non-gay".
A death is a death, you are correct. But you can't even begin to compare someone being murdered in a robbery to a person being murdered because of being gay.

laborerFeb 8, 2012
But if you are unpopular socially, you may be beaten up for a variety of other issues. Groups work that way.
And again, violence happens for many reasons. More violent deaths happen due to money than to gay prejudice, wheres the uproar?
Violence happens everyday, going back to the start of man.
Bullies dont need a reason, and pretending they have one legitimizes the practice while concentrating on the wrong problem.

pinskiaFeb 9, 2012
Though the other way around is true. How many doctors do you know that have been killed because they were perceived as pro-choice?
ano233Feb 8, 2012
"Gay people" aren't usually trying to force their beliefs on others. Pro-Lifers on the other hand are constantly calling for legislation to require that everyone follow their views. Besides, I've never heard of anyone being fired/not-hired/discriminated against for being a Pro-Lifer. But I've heard of dozens of cases of gays being beaten/fired/excluded based on nothing but their lifestyle.

laborerFeb 8, 2012

laborerFeb 8, 2012
I was speaking about Obama blocking Catholic business' from providing services according to their own world philosophy.
treehugger87Feb 8, 2012
So if I'm a Muslim employer I don't have to hire women? If I'm a catholic employer I can fire my non-Catholic employee because she gets pregnant out of wedlock? If I'm a Baptist hospital I can turn away gay people?
The government is obligated to determine what is unfair and prevent those practices from being exercised.
laborerFeb 8, 2012
One is discrimination in the work place [your example], another is legislating what a business can sell.
One is Sony telling mexicans to get out of their stores [your example, which would be wrong], the other is the government telling Sony what all has to be included in the package they sell [BY DECREE OF LAW, SONY MUST NOW INCLUD X & Y chords and peripherals].
The first one would be wrong on the part of business, the second one is wrong on the part of the government.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

No bigot.
I was socially awkward and bullied in school, naturally many of my friends were gay.
They were my friends, but often they would harass me or pressure me. I understood their plight, theirs was a small world. Few people could understand them. I did to a point, and did not hold it against them.
Firm "no"'s, but no hate or malice.
While Santorum is pro-growth, I understand he is really socially conservative [evangelical]. I am an atheist, so I dont like that.
But heres the rub. They put god in public school, but they also support private school. If god is in public school, Id rather send my kid to my choice of private school [ie evolution only] and the child will probably receive a better education to boot.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Pro-gay"? What is that? Is that the same as indoctrinating our children with the "gay agenda" they speak of on Fox? There is no 'pro-gay'. There is pro-rights for everyone. Equality, for blacks, whites, Hispanics, gays, transgender, everyone.
laborerFeb 8, 2012
I thought it was pretty simple.
Pro-gay meaning tolerant and accepting of homosexuals and homosexuality. Pro-gay meaning pro-equal rights.
The legal and tax benefits are rights.
Marriage is a tradition, not a right.
Otherwise single people should be able to consentingly marry themselves, and poly's should be able to 'marry' in whatever quantity they wish.
Its always interesting debating you. You are so foxy when you get bent out of shape ;)

bookantFeb 8, 2012
"Marriage is a tradition, not a right. "
In order for that to be true, there would have to be NO governmental recogition or additional legal benefits than come with being married. As our libertarian-leaning friends sometimes say, government would have to be OUT of the marriage business completely. No such thing as legal marriage, for gays or straights, period. It's a religious ceremony only.
Which, of course, would immediately result in marriage equality for gays and lesbians. Since there are already plenty of churches that grant and recognize gay marriage, they would be free to get married in those churches. And would NO government recognition of ANY church's marriages, that put all marriages in the same status - recognized by the churches that performed them and NOT by the State.

Its not that there is more bigotry against pro-life people than gay people, its that there is more bigotry against non-liberal people than gay people.
What is especially bad is when these non-liberals are also shunned by traditional conservatives as well - because of their religious views or views on war or what have you [ie Im an atheist, but I support stopping genocide abroad and helping to modernize the 3rd world, all of which I have my own reasons for].
