Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - that's the reason why the media is highlighting this. Newt was very vocal about Clinton's affair, and there he is doing it himself.
jamesotisJan 22, 2012
1. Newt wasn't president.
2. He never tried to make the claim that oral sex wasn't sex at all.
3. He didn't lie to the country and congress.
4. He wasn't impeached.
5. The woman involved wasn't a girl half his age (but she was -- at least -- good looking).Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Plus Clinton had affairs with at least 8 other women. Even had rape and sexual harassment charges levied against him. He got away with it though, that's why he's called 'Slick Willy'.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ultimisJan 23, 2012
Newt didn't go after Clinton for the afraid (as far as I'm aware) but for the fact that he lied under oath about it. There were charges against Clinton that he was abusing his authority of president to illicit sexual favors, and he was rightly investigated for it. The fact that he lied under oath gave his political enemy (Newt) the chance/ability to remove him from office.
danomite97Jan 22, 2012
wait, i'm confused...how was spending months on Clinton's affair simply looking the other way? Apparently this makes fox news the hipster of the news outlets.
aveterenJan 21, 2012
That is nothing new. The media has been slamming politicians for years. They have helped to decide who's in and who's out for a long time.
As Roseanna Rosannadanna said....
"It just goes to show you. it's always something...Nevermind"
jimijamJan 21, 2012
A decent example of the shorthand memes our "press corps" employ to smear candidates.
liknital07Jan 23, 2012
Except sex with a White House intern is not an impeachable offense and John Edward's affair is tabloid fodder
mikoniumJan 21, 2012
Are you kidding?
They didn't shut up about Bill Clinton for years.
John Edwards' political career in the presidential ring is over.
And the Obama's relationships with those people were NOT a big deal, contrary to what the media said for months.
Newt Gingrich's dickish relationship behavior SHOULD matter to the "family values" (whatever the hell that means) voters he's appealing to.
amaoicanJan 22, 2012
"John Edwards' political career in the presidential ring is over."
Exactly. That's what the author/cartoonist misses. The media shut up about John Edwards infidelity because he was no longer a viable politician. They haven't shut up about Newt because he is still running for office. You'll notice the media didn't say much about him for the years he was out of the public eye.
RavenshoodieJan 22, 2012
Like Herman Cain. The media shut up about him once he dropped out.
amaoicanJan 22, 2012
Thanks, exactly!
busterprattJan 21, 2012
First, Gingrich was having an affair and then asked for an open marriage while he was leading the charge to get Clinton impeached.
Second, when a democrat gets in trouble for an ethics charge they get drummed out of office. While family value republicans get a pass.
ie Vitter hiring prostitues behind wifes back, Republican ok.
Anthony Weiner sending inappropriate pics, must be removed.
Gingrich one of front runners in Republican primaries, cheated on wife while she had cancer thats fine. Edwards does same and his political career is over for life.

Don't expect it to be the same for liberals as for conservatives. Conservatives hold themselves out as models and paragons of virtue, so it's far more interesting when they turn out not to be.

Lame Stream media....
austinjameshereJan 21, 2012
Victim Victim Victim... Pity Pity Pity... Gingrich is running for the office of the United States of America - He campaigns on the sanctity of marriage - he left his first wife when she had cancer for somewhere he was having an affair with - he asked his second wife for an open marriage - now we are on wife number 3. And the media is the bad guy when they bring this up - Gingrich has made the issue of marriage a part of his political platform (he's openly against gay marriage). I'd sure like to know why the hell he thinks he can dictate to other people whether or not they can get legally married - but in return, they can't even ask him about his own less than perfect past. This whole blame the media crap is hypocritical at best - Gingrich worked at Fox News, a network that has let rumour pass as fact every time something bad is said about a Democrat. He was once part of the worst of mainstream media practices, but now he wants special treatment. He can stick his pity and victim card up his butt.
PyriteGenieJan 21, 2012
Which is why the Democrats have the safer campaign route. They don't have morals, don't pretend to have morals, so when they're found to be in the exercise of having no morals, it's no big deal.
austinjameshereJan 21, 2012
I bow to your superior morals... Praise the party of Nixon and Bush for their virtue, grace, and humility. And yet, that is what you and the left media are doing. Straight from your pulpits.
Thumping your chests because you are so morally wholesome.
austinjameshereJan 21, 2012
Or we could just all mind our own business. If Gingrich starts and says gay marriage is none of his business, I'll follow and say Gingrich's lewd past is none of my business. Gay marriage is the open door to change the definition of something old [historically].
Now, not thinking from religion, what would be the purpose of changing marriage, and what it is the concrete evidence [logic, incentives...etc] for what is being allowed in and what is not.
Marriage is between a man and a woman.
Not between two men, or 3 men or 4 women.
Under the logic of gay marriage, you just need to be consenting. Why could not 3 partners be consenting?
Yet proponents of gay marriage do not support measures to extend marriage to polygamy.
But they cant use the definition of marriage as they see it as a reason poly's cant have 'equal rights', because it wasnt an acceptable argument when it was used against them by pro-status-quo marriage supporters. It would by hypocrisy at its worst.
So I see no reason to change the definitions, when a 'Union' could be extended the same benefits. Its just a bunch of angry people trying to strike out the society they feel has castigated them.
Warranted at different [past] points or not, the continued games being played with the traditions of society are childish [IMO].Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
amaoicanJan 22, 2012
"So I see no reason to change the definitions, when a 'Union' could be extended the same benefits"
You're claiming that homosexuals are complaining about linguistics? Be gone. They want the benefits and protections of marriage, not the word.
And in any case, you allow homosexuals to get "Civli Unioned" and within a generation or two we'll be calling it marriage anyway. That's just how language works - you can't take two things that are essentially the same, slap on different words and expect humans to not get lazy and start calling them the same thing.
fertilebastardJan 22, 2012
Gays were offered "civil unions" in several states and would have none of it. Instead they sued to be allowed "marriage".
Your argument is not based in fact.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Yeah, they don't want a separate distinct legal thing to be established. They want government to acknowledge that ALL civil unions (regardless of the gender of the two people being joined) are equal.
'Separate but equal' has been shown not to work.

I'm sorry, I'm a republican and I despise Newt Gingrich for how he treated his previous wives. If he somehow wins the GOP I will be voting for Ron Paul. Actually maybe even if Mitt Romney wins I will vote for RP. Man the past 2 election choices suck.

Come on Bett, at least TRY submitting something that isn't totally misleading, hyperbolic, and sorry to say it - stupid.
And while you are at it, why not start posting (most probably) copyrighted material from its actual source - or are you afraid of what its origin might show? Maybe about the radical right wing people your submissions come from? Honestly, I don't know where they come from, they could be from politicsusa for all I know, but with you, we aren't given the opportunity to find out.
Oh, and submission buried for the above reasons...

mbst2000Jan 21, 2012
Absolute bulls**t. So the "mainstream media" made nothing out of these stories? f**k off with your conservative paranoia. To say that gingrich's character is not a matter for this election is absurd. The man is beyond hypocritical, and that's before you even get to the fact that his entire campaign appears to be "I hate Obama".
What is it with you people? Why is it that every time one of your assh**es is caught with his pants down you can't man up and just take the hit? Where's John Edwards now? Where's Anthony Weiner? f**king nowhere, that's where. In the meantime you idiots lionise utter scumbags like Gingrich, a man who's only allegiance is to his rampant ego. I don't think the submission argued that the Clinton affair made news. I think the cartoon said it "wasn't an impeachable offense."
heresy_fnordJan 21, 2012
It's implied that the first the panels weren't a big deal then the fourth panel is a huge deal. The first panel is BS because Clinton was hung out to dry.
Ouzel7Jan 21, 2012
Hung out to dry? He DID HAVE sex with an intern...in the Oval Office hallway. With a cigar.
The media made the case that it wasn't "impeachable."
heresy_fnordJan 21, 2012
No, the media (in real life) hung him out to dry. The panel as you read it literally said it wasn't impeachable. The panel doesn't match real life. It's written as if the first 3 things mean nothing and the 4th thing is a huge deal. They don't really reflect reality.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Yes. I understood it the first time and looked at it again before I responded.
The cartoon has the "mainstream" media saying Clinton's affair doesn't rise to an impeachable offense...(technically, it was the lying under oath that was most contentious...)
It blows off Edwards' Affair (and let's face it, they did) and downplaying Obama's pastor...
....but positively salivating over Newt's ex.
