Some facts about Kanas, the area where this politician is.
Not very literate.
Kansas City has a quarter million adults living in it who have the lowest level of literacy possible.
http://www.examiner.com/volunteerism-in-kansas-city/literacy-kansas-city-where-learning-to-read-changes-lives
Kansas fails at reading, the most basic and vital skill a school can teach.
Despite that, or perhaps because of that, officials in the school system constantly want the [incredibly simple/vital] theory of Evolution taken out of its classrooms. This is a tragedy because much of the nation's food is grown there, and understanding how evolution works is vital to preventing epidemics, famines, etc. -- possibly even crime waves.
Which brings us to Kansas' other problem.
Given over to Mexican gangs
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/jul/03/22_gang_members_arrested_wichita/
The 2nd article recounts that in a single sweep in Wichita, Kansas dozens of Mexican gang members were collected by federal authorities. That is not a "racial" statement; the article doesn't even identify their race. They were Mexican citizens who were criminals running gangs in the capital of the state the GOP House speaker of Kansas works in.
What else is in Kansas, Fred Phelps, well known people/American-hater who has something bad to say about just about everyone. He is living with his "family" 3 blocks from the Kansas state capital in Topeka, Kansas. 0.o

Yeah, that Westborough "Church" guy.
Seems like death wishes are a common problem. Just like education.
Possibly, there is a relationship.

Is the capital of Kansas in Wichita or Topeka? Your post refers to both as the capital. Also, the Kansas City you're referencing in your first "fact" is in Missouri.
Other than that, great post about "Kanas, the area where this politician is."Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Topeka is the capital of Kansas and Phelps's Empire of Hate. Wichita is Kansas's largest populated city.
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
The capital of Kansas is Topeka, not Wichita. I caught the mistake and edited the comment to be correct in that place but evidently I missed the other
Sorry about missing the other one and any confusion it concerned. Wichita is just a large, heavily populated city in Kanas as someone else pointed out below.
vitriolandangstJan 16, 2012
The "take away" concepts here are that the Death Praying is happening in the God Hates Fags, Mexican gang war, and illiterate state of Kansas.
I'm above average in reading comprehension and NOT from Kansas, so I was able to learn that if not the geography of a failed state.

With all due respect, I saw the headline and thought, "Not this again?"
I think the email is stupid, but it definitely made the rounds, I think about a year ago.
This headline is incorrect. The email contains ONLY the part that says :
"Let his days be few; and let another take his office..."
And if this had been directed at, say, Santorum ... many people would say, "Lighten up!"Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
So it's kind of like Ron Paul's newsletters... ?
Ignore it if you are not the target audience he is pandering to, right?
Ouzel7Jan 14, 2012
It's not like Ron Paul's newsletters.
Ron Paul's newsletters were not a well-known thing that made their way around the emailverse.
And again ... the email specifically said the first line only of the verse.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
The rest of the verse is not widely published?
He only sent the email to people who did not have bibles?
Um, no.... ?
Ouzel7Jan 14, 2012
No ... the email said:
"Pray Psalm 109:8"
That is "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership."
The rest of it ... that was added here is....
Psalm 109:9 onward...depending on who is quoted at the time.
People who HAVE Bibles would be aware that Psalm 109:8 is not 109: 9 etc...
In short, people aren't praying for Obama to die...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

@ouzel - yeah. right. whatever. Congrats for buying into the purposeful disingenuousness that racists are hiding behind here.
I'm no Bible scholar, and even I knew the next line.

>Some facts about Kanas, the area where this politician

>Not very literate.
>Kansas City has a quarter million adults living in it

the mistake is understandable. kansas city is by in large in missouri and they do have big problems with funding. the courts took control of the kansas city school districts and judicially levied a tax increase some years back. even that is misleading because the kansas city metro area includes a large number of middle and upper middle class cities and suburbs that are not included in those statistics. kansas city proper is very much the poorest part of the metro area.
>Kansas fails at reading, the most basic and vital skill
>a school can teach.
kansas isn't failing. we are currently under attack... again. this is a paragraph from JCCC about education in Johnson County one of those kansas city suburbs... its not out of character for kansas.
the educational attainment of johnson county's population ranks among the most highly educated in the nation, making the local labor pool one of the best in the united states.
of counties in the united states with populations above 500,000, johnson county ranks first in percent of adults with at least a high school education, fourth in percent with at least a bachelor's degree, and 14th in percent with a graduate or professional degree.
ninety-six percent of johnson county residents 25 years or older have earned at least a high school diploma, 52% have a bachelor's degree or higher compared to the national average of 28%.
there are currently 29 four-year colleges and universities and 11 two-year colleges offering classes in the area.
kansas is one of 2 states that its illegal to turn down a kansas resident applying for college. policy in kansas is that there is a college within 30 minutes of every kansan.

this is old news and even when current it was misleading. whats true is that a few people are cause these problems. last time they attempted a take over of schools they teaching creationism was defeated in 104 of 105 counties. on ground within school districts it was 100% among religious and non-religious parents that those laws would be ignored. that is a literal fact. no school district in kansas was going to teach creationism or even change the way science was taught. every farmer in kansas understands breeding and hybridization... and evolution.
right now we are in the middle of a second assault. when kathleen sebilius our 2 term progressive govenor left to serve as head of HHS in the obama adminstration we got by some default way this neocon nut that is doing what other neocon govenors are doing and using adminstrative mechanisms to undermine law. he has systematically been over ruled. but every state is under threat from these nuts and like the creationist who crept up on our education system... he will be gone at the next opportunity.
>Given over to Mexican gangs
>http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/jul/03/22_gang_members_arrested_wichita/
This is what it said. It indicates that this was being dealt with. whats the problem with that?
"Federal immigration officials and Wichita police
arrested 22 Mexican gang members in a roundup targeting
four violent street gangs, authorities announced
Wednesday. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
said the suspects were members or associates of the
Vato Loco Boys, Sureno 13, Players for Life and North
Side Gangsters gangs. The local effort was part of a
national program called "Operation Community Shield."
Nine of the suspects were already in custody during the
planning stages on warrants for burglary, theft
assault, drive-by shootings, weapons violations and
other crimes, ICE said. They will be deported after
their cases are finalized. The remaining 13 gang
members arrested in the one-day sweep are illegal
immigrants who will be returned to Mexico, ICE said."
>What else is in Kansas, Fred Phelps, well known

kansans have been dealing with this guy for years. we are the ones that disbarred him. we took all his fangs except these pickets he continues operate. i've personally participated in water balloon attacks on his pickets.
just fyi kansas also contains some of the most liberal places in the country.

Pray for death in one hand, and spit in the other -- see which hand fills up first.
By abandoning their traditional redneck Conservative roots, the Republicans have forgotten the 2nd Amendment solutions.
along with reeding, righting, an a-rithmetic.

The right-wing hypocrites act like Obama is a divider, but he has certainly never uttered anything as ugly as this.
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
Obama doesn't hate on Americans.
vitriolandangstJan 16, 2012
I would be OK of an honest criticism of Obama.
I don't like defending Obamacare, his lack-luster stimulus program, or "negotiating" with the Republican budget by giving them more of what they wanted.
>> But these morons keep criticizing him for their own straw man idea of what Liberals are like. Obama is to the right of Nixon -- he isn't a Liberal at all.
I could only imagine that nutters that call Obama a socialist actually want him to win reelection -- they make Republicans look like they have no sense of reality, shame, decency, or economics.
Republicans could gain more support by being honest, and attacking Obama for signing the NDAA bill -- but then, they wouldn't be the Republicans who quietly signed the NDAA bill in the middle of the night and during the day jumped up and down about recess appointments to protect consumers.

When will we ever learn to get religion the hell out of politics and speaking of getting things out what in the hell is this guy doing as the Kansas House Speaker.
davidnivenJan 14, 2012
Yeah! Let's use only secular-based rationale such as our own feelings and personal desires. That will solve everything.
/s
ultmastJan 14, 2012
That's an absurd strawman.
First of all, separation of Church and State is a very real part of our political reality and history.
Second of all, unless you're being completely intellectually dishonest, there are a ton of *legitimate* "secular rationales" to choose from. Religion and its practice is just as influenced by feelings and personal desires.
How about we call for politics to involve compassion, reason, thought, awareness, context, objectivity, practicality, and (actual) morality?
There's certainly no call for violence, exclusion, disrespect, and dishonesty as have been the hallmarks of the "Christian" politics we're describing.
isaac7719Jan 14, 2012
If you think a secular-based rationale is built upon feelings and desires, you've attained a level of uninformed idiocy that I can only call impressive.
Emotions and desires are the root of all religions. A desire to not burn in hell forever is usually enough to keep most people fearfully in line.
ultar6Jan 14, 2012
That's exactly what we should do.
Secular rationale isn't about subjective feelings and desires - unless you count not wanting to be killed, violated, or otherwise victimized as "feelings" and "personal desires".
We don't need superstition and self-serving biblical interpretations to tell us how to treat each other. They are things used by a few to control the many and lead to as much or more victimization than honest secularism.
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
So far fear of purgatory described in conservative church classrooms has failed to keep the mafia in line.
A reporter who wrote an expose on them is a marked man in hiding for years, whereas this year, the Italian business owners [job creators] are turning to the mafia loan sharks for business owner loans, rather than getting jobs as workers themselves.
This cannot end well for Italy.
Maybe the mafia should go protestant and donate its money to law and order.
vitriolandangstJan 16, 2012
@DavidNiven,
You always exceed to improve upon our low expectations.
Are we to assume that the collarary to your point that "Let's use only secular-based rationale such as our own feelings and personal desires. That will solve everything."
Is that the religious community has no feelings or desires and solves everything?

I need to start a Super PAC
"Americans for the return of Decorum in Politics"
ultar6Jan 14, 2012
You're one step ahead of Newt. No matter what he named his SuperPACs, they could all be named "Americans for the return of money to Newt's bank accounts".
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
So far Steven Colbert seems very well mannered and polite.
He has a Super PAC and about five percent of his state supports him as a write-in candidate whereas John Huntsman got only four percent.

Wonder if this guy is a baptist??? They believe in imprecatory prayer... which is to pray for the demise, death, or serious physical-emotional-spiritual harm to a group or individual.
http://www.librarything.com/topic/69200
The above link give a little background of a baptist who desired the death of President Obama. I pray that people who claim to follow Christ and claim him as their personal savior start to act in accordance to what he preached and how he lived his life!!!
nickymouseJan 14, 2012
I'm a member of SBC, by no means we wish death on anyone. Hell, everyone once in a while we pray for Obama. Doesn't mean we support him or any other candidate.
isaac7719Jan 14, 2012
Not all baptists are the same. Some baptist sects are full of normal, moderate, intelligent people. Others, unfortunately *many* others, are choking with zealous belligerence and hate.
johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
Other than some unkind words about a fig tree, Jesus is not described in the Bible as a Hater.
I don't recall parables or sermons where he said kill any person. Instead, he is described as having brought one man back to life -- not just himself.
Jesus had very harsh words for the corruption of the church by the "moneychangers" who set up shops inside the temple.
skews13Jan 13, 2012

johnnysoftwareJan 14, 2012
Their children should be nervous if their parents mistakenly believe they did something they shouldn't have and didn't.
There is a section in the old testament about a man listening to god telling him to kill his own son.
There have been followers of conservative sects of Christianity who have killed their own children because they were trying to purge them of "demons". This has happened in the United States of America in the past year.
razorsfuryJan 14, 2012

Pure racism. This guy is an example of what the typical GOP believes about the President.
The statement, that called her “Mrs. YoMama” is, pure racism in my opinion.
The GOP has had a racist attitude from the day the President was sworn in, until the present.
f**k the GOP, they will lose the House this coming election due to their attitude.

Wasn't much better a few decades ago. This man was working directly for Nixon.
http://mediamatters.org/research/200411230004
FTA: The Fuhrer was G Gordon Liddy's first political hero. Liddy was a sickly, asthmatic child when he grew up in Hoboken, New Jersey, in the 1930s. The town was full of ethnic Germans who idolized Hitler. Liddy was made to salute the Stars and Stripes Nazi-style by the nuns at his school; even now, he admits, "at assemblies where the national anthem is played, I must suppress the urge to snap out my right arm." His beloved German nanny taught him that Hitler had -- through sheer will-power -- "dragged Germany from weakness to strength."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G._Gordon_Liddy#Controversial_statements
FTA: Additionally, Liddy has said that, as a child, he grew up in a German-American community that included many admirers of Adolf Hitler and that listening to Hitler's speeches "made me feel a strength inside I had never known before." As an adult, however, he came to condemn Nazism and Hitler as "evil."
Well, and then he went on to disgrace the US and its government by committing illegal espionage against his President's competition at the Watergate hotel in D.C. during the Democratic convention.
One of the all time low points in US political history.

laurahoustonJan 14, 2012
"O’Neal forwarded the prayer with his own message: “At last — I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president! Look it up — it is word for word! ""
O'Neal "Honestly voice, word for word, for our president"
who made the death bible verse public? If Speaker O'neal himself sent the email to media then he intended for that email to be public.
Once a death bible verse is so public in media and read by thousands, millions? there's always some nutter who will take that crap to heart.
an apology is not enough, he should be fired. Anyone else in politics who got an emails like that and says nothing...they may need to lose their job too.

Jesus never said kill thy neighbor. Darwin never said slaughter those you disagree with on the other side of the world and enslave/imprison their offspring forever.
But some people who claim to follow/abhor their lessons and be evangelical christians right here in the United States have done that in really recent years.
It's a perversion of the knowledge of these men's core ideas, which had merit and I think said maybe do the opposite of harming people and the other life around us.
Darwin saw that a species' nature affects its member's actions and its actions affect its member's survival which in turn affect the species' nature in the next generation. Which means if we are warlike and deadly to ourselves and revere that then that is the thing that will be brought forth on future generations; a very real, very tangible curse.
If Jesus did/said what is described in the Bible, I think he took in what was going on around him in his era, leapfrogged what Darwin discovered/explained, and tried to jump start some kind of a collective soul in humanity that wasn't all about killing/exploiting itself.
Funny, how people who do the latter seem to go to such great lengths to act like they do not understand such simple things as these.
