"It was just plain embarrassing to see America’s leader sheepishly holding an ice pack to his mouth like a schoolboy who got punched in a fight."
It was? Why?
langfordNov 30, 2010
When there is no new, it must be invented from nothing.
benchmarkeNov 30, 2010
Well, people keep saying he is out of touch with "average Americans".
Maybe he does need to stop exercising... That way he can be overweight and out of shape just like the "average American"!
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Oh come on now...
thezonerNov 30, 2010
that is full of win, bench!
stevekratzNov 30, 2010
Well, when he's still photo-op'ing sitting by the window with an ice pack 4 hours afterwards... Be a man...
And if he wanted to play a "real man's" sport, try ice hockey. He could go get his stitches, and come back on the ice and only miss one shift.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

because, if it was bush you'd be laughing and making remarks, so why is obama immune? quite a double standard. you can't expect a president with severely low approval ratings to be praised. plus, did you see the look on his face as he was walking out? he was not in a good mood at all, after what was most likely an accident. he had that look of being reminded that he isn't indestructible, and he didn't like that.
obama prides himself on his looks, to a point of obsession. I guarantee he's going to be canceling any TV time until he's healed up.
And considering what's happened to obama politically, this busted lip is pretty much a metaphor for his presidency.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
usahnaimNov 30, 2010
unsoppableintellect?! omg, too funny. and then you go to make such great intellectual statements like " obama prides himself on his looks, to a point of obsession." or "you can't expect a president with severely low approval ratings to be praised." or "he was not in a good mood at all, after what was most likely an accident. he had that look of being reminded that he isn't indestructible, and he didn't like that. "
holly s**t, so much stupidity in so few statements. just because you wish something were so, it doesn't mean that it is. the first rule of living in the real world.
chestnutridgeDec 1, 2010
I don't suppose you would care to share with us the evidence for your assertion that "obama (sic) prides himself on his looks, to a point of obsession"?
getsome2kNov 29, 2010
It just shows he can take a punch and laugh it off.
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Oh huh, not says the right...
paranor01Nov 30, 2010
Well, the right isn't always... actually... rarely.
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Hardly ever unless you ask them....

Ummmm, stupidf**k....the left said the same thing when Bush got her bicylcing. But nice try. You attempted to turn this into an anti-Right bithcfest...but you only succeeded in making yourself look bad.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Ummmm, stupid f**k.... I got to you didn't I? You so scare me with your tough talk. You truly are boring. I don't give a rats ass what I look like as long as it isn't anything close to your pathetic ass..... Oh, and learn how to spell........lol
waterboy4453Nov 30, 2010
Let's keep this civil, eh? Sound good? I lean to the left politically, but this type of discourse is shameful.
davidtcNov 30, 2010
"Oh, and learn how to spell........lol"
"You so scare me with your tough talk"
huh?
ncmusicNov 30, 2010
Its' at least speeled correctly. /s
skillzthatkillzzNov 29, 2010
Why would he "give it up"!! it's not like its an uncommon injury
claudemaiNov 30, 2010
His must give up.. He should focus on his responsibilities.
chestnutridgeDec 1, 2010
What nonsense. Everyone, even very busy people, owe it their families and themselves to be as active as possible.
apokalyps2547Nov 29, 2010
It's somehow embarrassing to get your lip split playing sports?
Only to the manufactured-outrage brigade. Of course, if he quit playing, suddenly the SAME brigade would call him a coward and a pushover.
Closed AccountNov 30, 2010
Not to mention a flip-flopper.
jamied83Nov 29, 2010
Never, keep ballin buddy.
anomaly100Nov 30, 2010
He had to get 12 stitches. If he bled all over the place, you'd say he was being dramatic. There is no pleasing the right. If you need 12 stitches, you're hurt. He took it better than I would have.
I don't see the news in this. "Sheepishly"? That's a more apt description of new whine against the President.
Next, you'll freak out because he likes mustard. Oh..wait...
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Was he injured or hurt? He coulden't please any of the right, oh wait, I saw some of them agreeing with the freeze on federal wages....Go figure...

"when Bush got her mountain biking"
What the f**k does that even mean?
anomaly100Dec 2, 2010
Consider the source. He follows me around. Aren't I lucky?;-)
julie188Nov 30, 2010
Anyone that plays any sport occasionally has to hit the ice pack -- there's nothing embarrassing about that ...

Better question, is it time for Alan to quit making an ass of himself with blatantly ,hopelessly biased subs? Abso-damn-lutely.
pentakleNov 30, 2010
I think its time he started remembering who got him elected, and why.
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Why? He can't exercise ?
nathanloehleinNov 30, 2010
Wow, apparently the president is attempting to be a star athlete by playing basketball. Heaven forbid he's doing something he enjoys, getting exercise, or any other number of reasons to play a sport.
davidtcNov 30, 2010
I guess Bush should have given up eating after that pretzel incident.
arschgaudiNov 30, 2010
Why am I suppose to care about Joe Battenfelds opinion. I mean other than the fact that he describes himself as a "Radio host, journalist, political analyst, smart ass playing dumb".
pyroclastic_vikingNov 30, 2010
Is this author for real? Playing sports is something anyone can do to have fun, stay active and enjoy life. Yes, a president should enjoy life every now and then. It isn't like he is trying to make the NBA. I am torn because I want to bury this article so he doesn't get the traffic but, I also want to digg it to prove how stupid this author is...
benchmarkeNov 30, 2010
Yeah! Instead, he should have have taken out his pistol and shot the guy dead like a true American!
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
You mean like Cheney ?
smpaisnutrientsNov 30, 2010
Yup. Someone slights you, give them a lead salad. America! Since Obamur didn't do this the whole world is gon run roughshod over us and the tursts have won.
holtellisNov 30, 2010
"wannabe jock". Seriously??? A man can't just play some ball for fun? Terrible post...
spazattack5000Nov 30, 2010
If he quits basketball people will start accusing him of not being black enough or of renouncing his culture.
sanfelice4Nov 30, 2010
"Bill Weld took squash breaks when he was governor and once shot a wild boar that was trapped in a fence. Very macho."
squash is macho? lol come on man, how is taking a shot to the kisser and getting 12 stitches not macho. I'd rather see my president play a man's sport and go hard in the paint trying to get an And1, than have him play squash (which would prob make him an elitist?0 lol
plus the author assumes the president plays because hes trying to prove something, maybe he just really likes to play basketball or sports in general
rjhigginsNov 30, 2010
It was far more embarrassing when President Bush choked on a pretzel and cut his cheekbone. Or when he fell off a Segway. Or fell off his mountain bike. How about when his old man puked all over the prime minister of Japan?
Silly column.
pethanksNov 30, 2010
That's normal when you play basketball. Just let him play. That is his joy.
nebujalNov 30, 2010
Stupid column, and I love how all the tea-party nut jobs insist on emphasizing his middle name. Obviously Hussein makes him a terrorist right?
PhilbertRupkinsNov 30, 2010
Based on the content of this article, I conclude that it is not time for Obama to give up the game of basketball. This article is ridiculous. He can lift weights, play basketball, jog, practice yoga or do whatever he wants to get excercise. If basketball is his choice, so be it.
This article would hold more weight if it argued that he should discontinue playing competitively to avoid injury which ultimately affects his ability to lead the United States of America. But I would disagree with that as well.
nimbleskimblezNov 30, 2010
Wow. What a horrible article. Whatever the president does in his spare time is up to him.
lvsbksNov 30, 2010
Did you ever hear that theory about monkeys typing? It ain't Shakespear.
calgaryjayNov 30, 2010
No he should give up being a puppet president.
mtnmusicmanNov 30, 2010
Man and I thought we were getting along. Then you come and say somethin like that...Wow
paranor01Nov 30, 2010
I love how you keep calling him a puppet.
Do you have some odd desire to stick your hand up him and wiggle your fingers around?
enantiodromiaNov 30, 2010
who was the last non-puppet president?
calgaryjayNov 30, 2010
Regan
meedNov 30, 2010
f**k No, Obama should keep on playing the game he loves. US presidents need to be tough, The ice on his lip probably wasn't keep it from hurting, it was to keep it from swelling up anymore than it already had. After all the as much as the US president needs to be tough (physically and mentally) but also has a appearance to keep up.
Teddy Roosevelt got shot at a campaign event, and gave a hour or longer speech before going to the hospital. Sure Obama simply isn't as great of a President as Roosevelt (either of them) was, but he sure as hell can put up with a few stitches and keep playing.
caine22Nov 30, 2010
i'm no huge fan of obama, but this is ridiculous. how is this even a partisan issue? he got hit in the mouth while playing a game. who cares. no one from any political party should really care. he is not incapacitated, so move on.
Closed AccountNov 30, 2010
It's funny to watch this develop on Digg. *We* the right-wingers really don't care about this "story."
paranor01Nov 30, 2010
To be fair quirk, some do. You're one with more sense on things like this.

renealanisjrNov 30, 2010
You are all exaggerating over this. Who doesn't get an injury playing sports at some point?
lens42Nov 30, 2010
You gotta be kidding! I'd vote for him a 2nd time JUST so I don't have to see vacation shots of the prez playing golf or shooting in some forest while wearing those stupid jackets. This the best PR he could imagine. Bush was the faux "ordinary guy". This was real.
robertwrightNov 30, 2010
The writer "Joe Battenfeld" is a total Douche Bag, i would never say someone is to old to enjoy doing something they love!
lokey77Nov 30, 2010
did we make Bush give up pretzels?

No! We asked him to eat more!

comes forth and destroys the Constitution and the American Way.
chestnutridgeDec 1, 2010
Chileanminer- You keep saying this but I don't remember much comment at all when he got hurt mountain biking. Now, the pretzel incident was another thing altogether. I mean, even you would have to admit that was a very strange episode. Not as strange as Cheney being the first Vice President since Aaron Burr to acually shoot someone but strange neverless.

Granted I am not a big fan of President Obama, I have to respect the fact that he blows of steam by having fun the way he wants to and not was his advisors, among others, would rather have him doing.
skillzthatkillzzNov 30, 2010
obama is probably the worst black basketball player america has to offer!

prightNov 30, 2010
The possibility of injury is too high, the rewards too few.
cuervoman914Nov 30, 2010
typical american bullsnit, a double entendre of sorts. he either makes a "fool" out of himself, or he becomes a weakling pushover. i say he does what's best (like exercising maybe?) and f**k all.
enantiodromiaNov 30, 2010
Oh look, Obama is a regular guy, who plays sports, which sometime cause minor injury.
let's politicize this, because there isn't anything else worth whining about right now.
bdog2g2Nov 30, 2010
"Oh look, Obama is a regular guy, who plays sports, which sometime cause minor injury. And that causes our fabricated non-sense about him being elitist to fall flat..."
fixed it.
lalongecarabineNov 30, 2010
Hell no, at least he's moving. It's not unheard of getting any elbow to the face.
Last time I played I got a bloody nose.
helwarNov 30, 2010
Maybe it'll be better to Obama will play chess
embeddelverNov 30, 2010
No surprise on Joe Battenfeld's dumbass article considering the fact he works for the local Fox News station.
monvalleyNov 30, 2010
No, it's time he takes up basketball full time and give up his regular job.
