She's certainly on top of this, especially since many others appear to be ignoring it.

Which year was it that Obama promised to close Gitmo ?
I would like to see his list of promises for the upcoming campaign, they should be just as empty . . .Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
vectorbFeb 4, 2012
I believe that was the year right before the Republicans blocked the closing of Gitmo.
Closed AccountFeb 5, 2012
nope both sides in both houses blocked it cause they said no exisiting facility could accomommodate the terrorists and the trials would have to be opened to the media.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Buried for not worshipping the Democratic party as a god.
cosmicsurferFeb 5, 2012Submitter
buried for assuming that reality is worshipping any party.
linuxpersonFeb 5, 2012
You're right, my comment was off base. Reality for the political hacks is worshiping the state, the party they vote for uses rhetoric they like to hear.

Thanks @linuxperson
Political hackery is on all sides, not just one. When anyone blinds him/her self to the whole story and conveniently cherry-picks issues and ideas to support their particular delusion it leads to the creation of an ideologue that does no good and only fights to retain their delusion or force on everyone else.
We have way too many of them in this country or else they are just given too much forum

LOL so there you go, you start out blaming Obama then switch right to the Congress. Great stuff!

keep spinning liberal. wont change the fact that the usa will never close gitmo.
glassagateFeb 5, 2012
If the conservatives, who have vowed to not vote on
anything that Obama wants, would stop fear mongering
on the people in Gitmo, it would have been closed long
ago.
Our courts and prisons have handled far worse...
we can handle those in Gitmo.
And those who we know are innocent? Let them go.
linuxpersonFeb 5, 2012
So let me get this straight, Democrats controlled the House and Senate with a big majority yet they can't raise taxes on the rich, close guantanamo, or achieve a litany of other things that were promised by Obama in 2008.
Either the Democrats are incompetent or Obama is such a piss poor leader he can't even unite his slice of the criminal gang in Washington.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
glassagateFeb 5, 2012
There were too many conservative democrats who kept
voting with the republicans.
linuxpersonFeb 6, 2012
Excuses excuses, reminds me of the Republicans who controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency that now claim Medicare Part D and No Child Left Behind was capitulation to the Democrats.
Own up to your party being a failure.
cosmicsurferFeb 6, 2012Submitter
Let's go back to what I said previously, own up to the entire paradigm being a corrupted failure and all parties being such

The problem here was, Political Rhetoric. For Obama, he promised to close Gitmo because it was a symbol for the terrorist war we are involved in. "A Secret American Prison".
When Obama became President, that was when he realized the closing of Gitmo was going to be much harder than expected. The confusion of many of the prisoners there now accounted to a standstill in a legal process. Many prisoners there have no evidence against them, some do, and some have gone through a torture process, its really difficult to bring those people into a country that would legally require them to go through the legal process afforded by our Constitution.
So by closing Gitmo, and bringing prisoners to American soil, we would have to afford those prisoners rights to trials. Bad news there is, we have a lot of innocent people, and a whole lot of cluster f**k of he said/anonymous told evidence.
So by bringing prisoners to American soil, we would have to find a state that would house them. Now, mind you, we have plenty of prisons to just this. Why is it we have a "For Profit" prison system, that has the greatest examples of 'what money can buy'. How is it we can't find a state that will house these prisoners? Because America has a second problem. "Not in my back yard!"... Yes, we have every state saying no to housing such a Political 'firebomb' of a subject. The third problem America has, is we don't want to pay for these 'terrorists'. Kill'em, and lets get it over with.
The second major problem with closing Gitmo, was finding a country willing to harbor these prisoners within the UN SEcurity Counsel to ensure some of these 'terrorists' will never see the light of day. On the UN scale of the subject matter, Other Countries would be required to give these 'terrorists' fair days in court. So again. Can't bring these people home, Can't put them in other peoples hands, and we can't let them go, because afterall... Would YOU be happy about a foreign country imprisoning you for false reasons. Destroying your life, and then letting you go, with a small "we're sorry' check, and hope a country will take you?
Nope. So technically they main reason why GITMO isn't closed is... We totally f**ked up these whole situation. Otherwise, wouldn't we have already have rules, and guidelines constructed LONG before the word "Terrorism" was used in 9/11. UN, USA, China, Russia, every country around this country apart of the International Political Process would have a solution on the books. But instead, we have to keep making up new names for old problems.
In a more interconnected society, one would think, we would be much closer to a happy Utopia like world. But instead, it is a harder struggle with power, because those who still have it, want more, and those who see there are no more borders, want equality. And those two kinds of cultural mindsets can't exist well together.
Gitmo is a fine example of, what the American Citizens wanted, Obama promised, but then when it came to giving those people rights to fair trials, Americans didn't 'want it in my backyard'.
Its bulls**t to think we can't house/imprison these 'terrorists'... Thats never been the problem. We house(Imprison) ourselves well enough.
