venturebeat.com— Some big news this morning from the front lines of the debate over how to regulate online piracy. Germany, which had said it would follow along with the rest of the European Union in support of ACTA, is now refusing to sign.

Hells Yes!!! Way to go people of Germany. You have exercised your freedom to protest and stand up for what you believe. Keep up the good fight, the Internet must remain free as a voice of freedom around the world.
I have read the ACTA and I can't find anything that stifles free speech. Can you tell me which section is against free speech on the Internet? I have asked this on many sites and nobody answers with a real fact.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
What kind of naive turd thinks that the USA is the only country that considers themselves the "land of the free"? For the record, fool, all countries think that. Quit listening to our anthem so much.
Looking forward to the Tea Party's take on this. Do Germans have a greater level of independence from it's government that we do? In that ACTA amounts to secret law signed by Obama with such mechanizations as to implement polices that favor the 1% - without the messiness of a vote - by anybody but the Europeans.
America's officially no longer the land of the freeest.
Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
The internet, we have to concede, is not exactly free. We're paying for it with our personal information! And when the tech capitalists start losing their positions - they'll no doubt unite with the media capitalists and block us out.
That's when they'll start looking to our pockets for growth - information payment can only take us so far...
Interesting. I was going to point out there were eight comments in five seconds. Coming to comment page shows it is closer to seven hours. Anyhow...
The Germans did the correct thing. Secret debates don't cut it any more. Bringing things out into the open is a good start, but it is only a start.
Having said this... Protests, ACTA, piracy, and international agreements are not technology. Some are business (where the story was submitted) and the rest is purely politics (where it wasn't). The ACTA doesn't affect technology, it affects people.
I find a hot place where you meet sexy and rich cougars. I would say dating a rich cougar is great not only because she is your lover but she would also have that motherly instinct with you as well and be able to comfort you like a younger women may not be able to.Plus there would be no games like their could be with younger women. Also their sexual experience is invaluable in bed trust me and they tend to be secure and set in their lives.Just my opinion but a rich older women is great and that's nothing against younger women. Germany is doomed no matter what they do. Sure the people of Germany can vote this down, but that won't stop Haiku Hermann. You were stupid for joining the United States of Europe and you will get just what you deserve in return.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Too bad we, in "the land of the free", weren't offered a similar opportunity to voice our opinion.

What could ever go wrong with Germany leading the way?
Oh wait...
norman619Feb 11, 2012
I wonder when will they live down their past mistake. People still look at Germany and remember their most infamous leader.

"We're paying for it with our personal information! "
That is just adorably naive or plain retarded. I pay for the internet with money.
addislamorieFeb 11, 2012
adorably naive or plain retarded? I don't know whether to laugh or cry...
On the serious, you pay for your connection and not a dime more. But you know that, of course.
Everything else, you pay for information (think Google, think facebook)
One love
