entroperJan 27, 2011
The difference is that Jon Stewart doesn't have to manufacture his own material to make jokes. He wouldn't pretend something happened and make fun of it, when what actually happened was exactly the opposite. He would find a real genuinely awkward moment to make fun of, one that, you know, happened in real life.

I've watched a few State of the Union Addresses. They divide to, two sides of the 'isle', usually.

They chose to have both sides mixed, presumably to show cooperation after the Republicans took control of the house, along with support of Giffords after her incident.

Remember when George Bush made light of the WMD fiasco and the liberal crowd got all indignant about it? They had a point in that Bush had taken us to war and thousands had died. Here we have something not quite as egregious but is still a violation of our privacy and our president is playing it for laughs.
Chuckle, chuckle.

If Obama is joking about it, does that mean he isn't happy about it also? Can he do anything about it?
quickgold192Jan 28, 2011
In all seriousness, though, it's federal legislation that mandates the pat-downs, meaning he has the power to get rid of them. And all it'll take is one idiot with a bomb on a high-speed rail to get pat-downs there, too.
So, yes, it was a tastefully funny joke. But it's a little upsetting that it's gotten to the point that we don't even hold the federal govt responsible for ridiculous security theater.

Fox and Friends is like the "Steven Colbert Morning Show," if that were actually a thing. This really is much ado about nothing.
charlotte_webJan 27, 2011
That's pretty much what I came here to say, too... Stewart and Colbert do this kind of shtick all the time, and they get praised for it.
Fox & Friends is a morning chit-chat show. Anyone who's expecting it to be a hard-hitting news analysis program is obviously going to be a little disappointed.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
rgb86Jan 27, 2011
The difference, of course, is that Stewart and Colbert both make it abundantly clear that they are satirists whose shows are on a network called Comedy Central. Fox & Friends are on the Fox News Channel, and while they may have some friendly banter, they are not--and are not supposed to be--a comedy show. Given that, people would expect some minimum of facts and decorum. If stripping out applause and laughter and inserting cricket chirping is that critical, then they can start Fox Comedy Channel.
charlotte_webJan 27, 2011
Fox News has a range of programing focused around news content; some of it is more entertaining, some of it is straight reporting, some of it is commentary and editorial. It's no different from what other cable news outlets are doing.
Everyone already knows that Fox News caters to a more conservative audience, so honestly, what's the big deal? That wasn't Chris Wallace presenting that clip on Fox News Sunday, it was Brian Kilmeade being a goofball on Fox and Friends.
Why do liberals obsess over every little thing that Fox News does?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
rgb86Jan 27, 2011
We obsess over Fox because it's the number one network of disinformation in this country. This particular incident may not be very important, but there are many others that are. Really, though, it's the whole philosophy employed by Fox's pundits. It's one thing to report the news with a bias--emphasize certain aspects, draw certain conclusions--everyone does it. But Fox goes above and beyond to completely make s**t up and deny reality. A good example is Greta the other day claiming that nobody on Fox has ever evoked Nazi claims against liberals/Democrats, when this is demonstrably false, a fact which can be easily verified with all of ten seconds' worth of time. And this happens ALL. THE. TIME.
It's okay to have differing opinions, and it's okay to have a bit of bias in your reporting (though, you should at least acknowledge the bias and not call it "Fair and Balanced"; perhaps "The Number One Conservative News Outlet"), but the outright lies and rejection of reality are unforgivable.

Yeah sorry charlotte web and stromprommer but comparing fox and friends to colbert or stewart is so f**king disingenuous it is enough to make me want to puke. I don't know how any rational, thinking person could try and make such a comparison. Stewart and Colbert are clearly, blatantly, obviously satirical. Hell they even have a studio audience for laughs. They run comedy shows.
Fox and friends however is ON A MAJOR NEWS NETWORK. They report on the news every single morning, I watch it every day. (I am always fascinated at how anyone could take such propaganda/bias as news) They report on serious issues without a hint of satire. Sure, they may inject their personal opinions and banter back and forth casually, but they are a news show. They still report the news.
If they explicitely mentioned that the video was edited to get rid of the laughs, then nobody here would have any issue with it, it would be a non-story. But they didn't mention it did they? They reported it as if it was true.
That is called a lie anywhere you go.

Obama is not a failure but he himself is not important. we the people, are important and his success should be measured through our success. so far he has done what he campaigned on and therefore no one is really surprised with his 'accomplishments'.
I don't think he has done much good for the country by passing health care and the stimulus packages. what else is there? earning a Nobel Peace Prize for jack-squat. maybe its the transferring of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan and justifying it by saying "we're going after the REAL bad guys now". the truth is we shouldn't be in either places yet one is tolerated and 'necessary' and the other is despised by everyone in the country. yet the same atrocities are taking place. I feel ridiculous for even having to explain that obvious hypocrisy.
The best thing for Obama to do is to do less. government is in the way and needs to get out but it never does. they make the statement, "less is more" come true.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
kinserJan 27, 2011
So i'm guessing 'we the people' should run this country. Theres a problem, while I agree the government should do less, I don't think the country and its citizens could do any better. I don't have faith that we citizens would keep large corporations for causing more havoc than they already have.
But hey thats just my opinion, I mean if we won't stand up to government, why would we stand up to a bunch of people who hold all the jobs and goods in the country hostage?
Truth of the matter is, we need the government to protect us from corporations and make sure that the well being of the people of this nation is maintained. The problem is we have very FEW people in government representing the nation as a whole. Whats a few hundred people compared to millions? We need an overhaul. Our system of government is quickly becoming antiquated.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
With all due respect Kinser you are very far off-base on fundamental economics. first let me clarify, when I said 'we the people' I do in fact mean those large "evil" corporations that you refer to. you basically understood what I meant. but where we disagree is that corporations do way more good than harm. hold jobs and goods hostage? these large evil corporations such as McDonalds, Apple, Walmart while have some problems look at how much good they have done for America and the rest of the world. its a blessing that they can provide so many products to so many people for such a low price. think about all the thousands of people they employ and empower. they may drive competition out of business but thats because consumers expect and demand such low prices. sure no one is forced to shop there, people can always go to a pricier store if they want but what is so bad about rewarding large corporations with lots of money if they legitimately earned it? the key there is LEGITIMATELY earn this income. if large corporations are working with government that IS NOT capitalism. laws must be fair and enforced.
I completely disagree and say we need corporations to protect us from the government. the government itself is much like a large corporation except they don't operate like a legitimate company, it is them that are the evil corporations.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
kinserJan 27, 2011
We will just have to agree to disagree. I've been screwed more than once by one of these big companies. Personal experience speaks volumes for me.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
yet you have absolutely no idea how bad you have been screwed by your government.
adaguyJan 27, 2011
You are one of the few people that recognizes the difference between capitalism and this mess we have today, which is nothing less that corporate government.
miklkitJan 27, 2011
The polite word is Corporatocracy.
I call it Fascism.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
what is so strange though is that when people say Corporate Government they only think the Corporate part is bad and ignore the second half of that term. when in reality the Government is just as bad or worse because they are suppose to watch out for us citizens but instead they just watch out for their special interests. at least a legitimate company acts legally and has some transparency.
Julian Assange tried to make our government more transparent and our politicians talked about assassinating him for it.
torrangeJan 27, 2011
but without government regulation of "capitalism" we would have nothing but monopolies in each of the segments of service and industry. Those monopolies would eventually get swallowed up by the companies with the most capital.
The "free market" that everyone so fondly refers to would do nothing to stop, say, Wal-Mart from undercutting everyone while living on huge cash reserves, until all competition is either absorbed or folds. Then Wal-Mart owns the sector and can do what they want with pricing, wages, etc.
We all want everything to be so black and white. The reality is that there are many facets to capitalism and the free market.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
free market means a market of freedom. if Wal-Mart starts like any other company and LEGALLY earns their money to the point that they can operate all over the world, why should we not grant them that freedom?
let me ask you, is a politician striving for political power any more nobel than a company striving for economic power? is profit really worse than a position of political power? you should really think about what that means...
torrangeJan 27, 2011
I have no problem with a company making profits - my point is that a 100% free market will ultimately turn into a handful of mega-corporations dictating pricing, salaries, and our way of life, It has happened in the past.
Luckily this country has commerce regulations and we are not a dictatorship.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
@torrange
you are unknowingly referring to monopolies that yes given 100% freedom would occur however there must be some basic fundamental regulations like banning companies from creating monopolies. but taken to the extreme which is what we are dealing with, too much commerce regulation discourages small business from opening or growing. and high taxes on business along with increasing minimum wages drive up inflation.

The problem is not those that know Fox "News" is propaganda, the problem is the hornets nest of hate FN is riling up with a ceaseless campaign of disinformation and fear/hate mongering. It is painfully obvious why they are doing this, because they stand as the nexus of big business and ultra-conservative politics, but it is damaging the very fabric of our democracy and society. They cloak themselves as a news channel, and their viewers are so one dimensional that they really think it is 'fair and balanced' news coverage.
I certainly agree about turning it off though, and refuse to give my business to any place that has it on the tv.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
sounds like you are a little too intrusive into people's privacy. and a bunch of unfounded claims. the one case where people thought they could finally tie Fox News to a crime is with the shooting here in Tucson but there is just as much evidence against that theory as there is for it. and even if people are motivated by what they see on t.v. why is it any of your concern? people are motivated and inspired to do good and evil by all sorts of things, it is a dangerous business for us to start saying what is harmful for society to watch on television.
realistically you either disagree with Fox News but support their right to broadcast, or you want the government to shut them down completely. but you have no right to tell them how to run their news channel. they actually do a lot of good for our country. because since you disagree with Fox, other news companies are out there with different opinions and get your business or viewership simply because other companies do not provide what you want to watch. that is exactly what should happen in a free market. can we at least agree having different news stations is a great thing for a society?

entroperJan 27, 2011
I agree, but the chamber disagreed with both of us. I was surprised at how long the laughter went on after the smoked salmon thing. I think that joke was for the lawmakers, and the pat down one was for the people.
theghoulJan 27, 2011
Typical fox bulls**t. Nothing to see here. The more they do this s**t, the more likely I'll vote for President Obama if he runs again. And, I'm an independent.
dktrnimrodJan 27, 2011
lol dude the jokes were not even remotely funny.
vladamirJan 27, 2011
And yet, somehow that's not the point!
zbeastJan 27, 2011
The difference between a Dally Show joke and a fox news joke.
The Dally Show finds someone saying something stupid or doing something
stupid and they make fun of it. Fox News fakes someone doing something stupid then they fake and outrage about it.
The other thing The Dally show is political entertainment. But it ends up Showing you the real News.
Fox News says it's reports news but in reality is just propaganda masquerading as news.
dirtyfriesJan 27, 2011
Plus one is on a channel titled Comedy Central, and the other is on a self titled News network.
Deceptive? Nahh....
calgaryjayJan 27, 2011
Who cares besides the libtards?
crunchdiggJan 27, 2011
smart people who don't like being lied to
calgaryjayJan 27, 2011
If you don't like being lied to then don't listen to the SOTU anyway libtard!
grammerpantsJan 27, 2011
So you are okay with a news network changing the news to fit their agenda?
calgaryjayJan 27, 2011
What one doesn't?
grammerpantsJan 27, 2011
That wasn't the question.

The libtards see everyone as being intellectually inferior to them, it's really a core tenet of their entire f**ked up way thinking.
For the libtard, this clip is an important opportunity to try to expose the idiot masses to the truth about Fox News.
Of course everyone can see that the clip is political commentary and all they are really accomplishing is further exposing just how libtarded they really are.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
vladamirJan 27, 2011
It's sad that in the face of irrefutable evidence that Fox News is editing footage to make Obama seem unpopular, your only defense is to make mass generalizations about "libtards". It's not like you establish any logical sort of credibility for yourself! Try using facts, it will make your rants against the "libtards" a little less ironic. You can start here:

Or alternatively, you could get an education!

"Or alternatively, you could get an education!"
You libtards just can't resist proving my point can you!
Fox News does political commentary (in addition to hard reporting) and you're just going have to accept that that is the world you live in.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bookantJan 27, 2011
Doctoring footage to make up your own imaginary version of events as they did *not* happen is not "commentary."
cherwilcoJan 27, 2011
its very sad that you feel so threatened by anyone with a superior intellect! what is even sadder still is that you appear to not be bothered by a more intelligent conservative (there are many) just more intelligent liberals (lots of them too)
see johnny the REAL problem is that you are stupid (you CAN change that), it doesn't matter what political background the people that are more intelligent than you come from, you just seem to only hate the smarter liberals while all the while worshiping the smarter conservatives. pro-tip you could learn a thing or two from ANYONE smarter than you!

Fox viewers care, b/c they actually believe that crap. Yeah I know many of Fox viewers who said they didn't watch the STOTU. ANd would get the highlights on Fox.

I know...and you and your comrades are the only ones who can save them from conservative ignorance!
jdenzerJan 27, 2011
They don't need saving. Remember conservatives are the one's telling people to accept Jesus and be be saved.
Plus ignorance is bliss. So I'm guessing they are quite happy.
cyberdactylJan 27, 2011
I find it hilarious mediamatters is that desperate to even bring the segment to our attention.
Next it will be, "FoxNews discovered to be using a transcript of the president's speech as hot-pot pad in the employee break room!"
Jesus.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Stevex2Jan 27, 2011
So being felt up by TSA agents is a source of comedy for Barry the Obama Sotero? Of course the republicrats laughed at that. They are constantly laughing at us yokels here in flyover country, just as long as we comply with their demands to keep coughing up more of our dollars to their demands for more taxes.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

hey, its more applause than anyone on fox news will ever get
zaphoid86Jan 27, 2011
And they went for crickets? Are they five years old?
leepenlizardJan 27, 2011
What, FOX has to revert to classic student teacher " make fun of the lesson" hehe I'm so cool to fuch with the teacher!! Oh please the parents did'nt show up to the parent student meeting, beacuse the parents played the c**ktail party!!! Fox the puburterian of getting caught masturbating under the desk. FOX news jerks offs America!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WillyZeWhaleJan 27, 2011
isn't it obvious why it was quiet after the jokes the president made? if not, i'll spell it out for you dumb f**ks.
over half the room was full of republicans. yes folks, more than 1/2 of the room was full of those RCFs and their little minions, so of course the overall IQ of the audience dropped more than 100 points.
cry moar RCFs...then go f**k yourselves silly.
bookantJan 27, 2011
The point, you missed it.
"isn't it obvious why it was quiet after the jokes the president made?"
The entire point of this discussion is that it *wasn't* quiet after he made the jokes. FOX edited the footage to remove the laughter so they could *lie* about it being quiet.
grabateJan 27, 2011
Fox News: We distort, you believe.
brentbyingtonJan 27, 2011
nothing like fox news to be irritating
djtomgJan 27, 2011
not sure why I'm surprised by anything fox does at this point. Unreal.

Rupert, get your childeren under control!!! Fire the nanny and take away the political pornogrphy and restore dignity to journalism!!! Punks have digraced your life as a dysfunctional parent!!!
barasawaJan 27, 2011
It's not that strange of a thing for Faux News to falsify the reactions to speeches or other events. It's completely disingenuous, dishonest, disreputable, and a lot of other negative adjectives, but that doesn't seem to slow them down.
dannyhirtlerJan 27, 2011
Wow... The saddest thing is that there's still so many people who don't question this bulls**t "news" organization

That's wrong. Plain and simple, wrong. I don't care if you're a Republican or a Democrat. All adults should know better.
writer_68Jan 27, 2011
I have to agree with FOX. With everything the Democrats have done to this country, it is highly inappropriate for Barry to be joking around. It weakens his point and it weakens his office. If he wants to be taken seriously he needs to be serious.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
crymtyphonJan 27, 2011
We take it that was a joke.
Really, you should be more serious.
jarysmJan 27, 2011
Low blow FOX
insomaniac117Jan 27, 2011
Seriously. WTF.
jefftsJan 27, 2011
Oh, the horror! There's people trying to have some fun with a video clip! There must be absolutely no attempts at humor! They must be taken off the air immediately!
It must have been a slow day at the office for dumb crap like this to cause an outrage. I bet there would be crickets from the Left if this were done with anyone with an R after their name. Unintellectual hypocrites.
crymtyphonJan 27, 2011
It it sometimes said that Fox is an organ of the GOP.
This is not true, any more than that a dog is an organ of its tail.
Fox controls the Republicans. It controls the Tea party.
All major players in American Conservativism are Fox spokesmen.
The rest? - are dependent on a Fox endorsement.
It is something long in the making: not a 'political' party,
but an 'electronic-community' party.
The only weak point is that by definition, elected office
will always be secondary. Holding office requires
being held accountable by more than a studio audience.
It requires compromise; sitting with the opposition.
It requires doing things; not talking.
This is why Palin quit the Governorship,
for a promotion as a Fox talker.
In 2011 America, we have the dull wonky democrats, quick
to compromise, slow to act, fond of complex bills;
- and the talkers who need please only an audience,
not an electorate.
Who will prevail?
megatron2010Jan 27, 2011
Fox News is DEFINITELY not propaganda
pablomacJan 27, 2011
This is obviously a tongue-in-cheek piece. Anyone who gets their panties in a wad over this needs to grow thicker skin.
2012ronpaulJan 27, 2011
Fox rules!! At least they are fair and balanced. Unlike other networks.
carriage4hireJan 27, 2011
phuck Fox and friends
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
May I ask a question without being buried, what if Fox News is biased and this video is proof of that. what is the point of having to constantly record these shows, post them, digg them, and claim its evidence of their bias. what is the point of all this?
improvisedJan 27, 2011
Well..."A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". I'd say we're about 465 miles in.
miklkitJan 27, 2011
The point is to hold their dishonesty up to the light so that all can see them for what they really are. The republicon Ministry of Propaganda.
zirchxworldJan 27, 2011
and why is this bad? isn't the point of a free society to have different view points? and if you acknowledge the use of Republican propaganda then surely you must admit Democrats have propaganda as well. who is more harmful is irrelevant, why not stand up against propaganda wherever it is instead of just fox news?
banderwockyJan 27, 2011
Its so childish and petty...the rest of the world is laughing at you.
