Clint Eastwood is considered relatively conservative. Do you really think he would do an ad for Obama?
brucealmightyFeb 8, 2012
In fact he was a pretty vocal McCain supporter. Fox is just grasping at straws here. As usual.
isaac7719Feb 8, 2012
I think the fact that they're making this an issue in the first place speaks volumes about how big of a joke their "Fair and Balanced" slogan really is.

But diggpigg, someone like Clint Eastwood just doesn't need to take ANY job to make ends meet. He would have read the script and story boards prior to accepting the job. And after the product was finished, a man of his sway would have something to say too, if he didn't like it.
DiggPiggletFeb 9, 2012
Maybe he didn't realize what "half time" was then. I bet he would have not agreed to do it if someone had told him that it was about half time in Obama's presidency. Clint missed it and now he doesn't want to admit he fell for it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

So you're suggesting that Clint Eastwood is an addled old man who was snookered into lending his voice to a commercial that suggests we're on the rebound. How un-American of you.
What a crock of s**t. Just admit that you want America to fail under Obama so you can usher in one of the four Repubs.
Funny thing is, each of the four remaining candidates represent different factions of the Republican party and its ideology. Even funnier, the various regions in the US support a different Republican based on the faction they represent.
Good luck in November. You will need it.
TheNoizeFeb 9, 2012
I don't think they believe in what they're saying. I think they just don't care anymore. I guess this is how the american conservative culture will end, collapsing on itself? Fox became the old grumpy man Rupert Murdoch always was.

They built their kingdom on fear and hate.
chordonblueFeb 10, 2012
...and you've built yours on redistribution (stealing), and race baiting.
ultar6Feb 10, 2012
You've built yours on fear and hate.
Redistribution is just a word. The reality is that a society that values and seeks to build wealth needs to pay for the things that facilitate wealth. Those who benefit the most should pay the most.
Not sure why you're going after the "race-baiting" meme. If the majority of conservatives go apes**t over a new president, question his citizenship despite overwhelming proof of it, insist that he follows a religion that they consider "un-American" even though they have no evidence AND despite the reality that that the U.S. was specifically crafted so that everyone is free to practice the religion they choose, then I wonder why you hate Barack Obama so much.
If you want to call that race baiting, go ahead.
chordonblueFeb 12, 2012
Your type confuses hate for an individual with hate for his policies. Not the same thing. I dislike the Left's policies in general. Since our president sides with the Left then, yes, I disagree with him. Nothing personal about it, although I know that fits into your side's narrative...
nolagrlFeb 11, 2012

mrmapleFeb 9, 2012
It's not a subtle pro- Obama message.
It's a loud as hell anti-interference message, which hits the Republicans very hard.
What I really love about this is that the more the Republicans complain, the more conversation there is, and the more conversation there is the worse the Republicans look!
I've got my popcorn here, and can't wait to see the next backfiring Republican outrage. We seem to get three or four a week.

ultar6Feb 11, 2012
It was a great commercial. American resurgence and optimism were the themes. Clint Eastwood with his grizzled, yet universally recognizable voice was the perfect spokesman.
How can a political party and its surrogates think that attacking a message of American optimism and exceptionalism is going to get them anywhere? It's clear they are assailing any positive news and positive attitudes with attacks meant to sow negativity and skepticism.
They can't stand seeing a Democratic president succeed and they'll go to any lengths to scuttle that success, the American people be damned.

paula1849Feb 9, 2012
Clint Eastwood is a sensible conservative republican. He just isn't the frothing at the mouth crazy that passes for conservative republican these days.
Clint wants the country to be healthy and great, and isn't willing to go full retard to destroy Obama and please the Fox corporate masters.
It shouldn't be about which "side" wins democrat or republican. We should be able to have discourse over moving the country forward.
ultar6Feb 11, 2012
Dugg for Republicans going full retard. It's an apt description.
They want so badly to take control of the House, Senate, and White House that they will say and do anything to make it happen.
They will go so far as to sabotage economic recovery to do it. It won't work because MOST Americans are jonesing for economic recovery and a return to prosperity.
Think I'm wrong? This uproar over an American Icon voicing for a commercial is a prime example.
As Americans, we can find something to rally around or we can keep arguing over ideology while we demonize and undermine each other. I prefer rally.
Republicans have zero interest in anything but their own agenda. They are the party that demonizes and undermines. As far as they are concerned, they are irrevocably right on all things while those who disagree with them are irrevocably wrong. How does that contribute to the greater good?
crymtyphonFeb 9, 2012

Fox (Faux) and a lot of Republicans would have found absolutely any Chrysler add to be offensive, no matter what it said, because the mere fact that Chrysler still exists is a success for President Obama, and any commercial from Chrysler would remind viewers of that success.
kasha34Feb 9, 2012
"the mere fact that Chrysler still exists" is because money was confiscated from other Americans and given to the UAW.
The United Auto Workers were the chosen ones. The rest of us were punished.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
notachickenhawkFeb 9, 2012
So you mean that the US Treasury Department wrote the UAW a check? Cause I must have missed that part if it happened.
I suppose it would have been better, in your view, to allow Chrysler to dissolve, and to have everyone who worked for Chrysler laid off. And then to have had large layoffs at companies that built parts or provided other supplies for Chrysler. And then to have had Ford and GM's operations disrupted when large numbers of their parts suppliers could no longer afford to remain in business. And all the negative cascading effects that this would have had on the economy would have been better, right?
So yeah, its easy to sit there and second guess, when even well after the fact with all the benefit of hindsight you can't come up with a single better idea whose outcome would have been better.
And I suppose its also easier, in your world, to blame the workers and their unions for Chrysler's problems instead of Chrysler's management. I guess this is true for you despite the fact that its management's job to run the company successfully, and the fact that no one forced management to accept the union contract, and that no one but management accepted that contract and then proceeded to fail to run the company properly given their labor expenses. No, instead it must be the workers' fault because those greedy S.O.B.'s tried to get paid more money through negotiations and taking advantage of supply and demand, which is something that neither you, nor I, nor any other American would have done. I mean, who do those UAW bastards think they are? Workers in a free market?
kasha34Feb 10, 2012
Stop. There is a legal procedure for companies that can't pay their bills.
A bankruptcy reorganization. Some airlines ran for years during their reorganizations.
But then the UAW would have had to make concessions. So instead, somehow the Feds forced the bondholders to take pennies on the dollar and directed the assets of the company to the UAW. And the taxpayers bought the rest.
So the govt confiscated money from everyone else. And directed it to the chosen few...the UAW.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
notachickenhawkFeb 10, 2012
So why in your mind is it the workers who deserve to get screwed over, when in fact its the managers who mismanaged the company, and the bondholders who made unwise investments, who screwed up? The bankruptcy process should not be a tool to get out of bad contracts. I mean, its not like a worker or a union is ever going to be able to declare bankruptcy and have the bankruptcy judge award them more money from the company.
In any case, the company was going bankrupt, one way or the other. Saying the Feds "forced" bondholders to take pennies on the dollar conveniently ignores the fact that the bondholders were holding bonds in a bankrupt company and could have easily been worth absolutely nothing by the time all was said and done.
ultar6Feb 11, 2012
How were we punished? If Chrysler pays back the loans, how were we punished?
You are simply anti-union.
The Republican stance on unions is a paradox. Republicans claim they are for freedom, but the moment a group of FREE AMERICAN workers in a FREE SOCIETY band together to protect their own interests, safety, and well-being, they are branded as socialist thugs.
Since the Reagan days, America has been conditioned to bow at the feet of business. Conservatives would have us believe that business is the source of wealth in this country and that business does the masses a favor by employing them.
The reality is that the American population is the source of American wealth. It is their work that business owners tap to produce their products. It is their own work that produces the income that allows them to spend money and fuel an economy that is 70% consumer-driven. The 30% that isn't driven by consumers is still funded indirectly by consumers.

The funny thing about their "ratings" is that their 1-3M number is based off a sample of 25,000 or so people that have Nielsen boxes and that use the proportions to determine nationwide figures.
That means that about 166 out of 25,000 people are watching them and making it appear that they have higher ratings than they truly do.

aadyssFeb 9, 2012
The run into the ground again was about Chrysler. 2x failure and now at least 30% owned by a foreign company. I hope you read Kant better than Digg. Oh, you didn't realize that Chrysler received a government bailout in 1979 under Jimmie Carter. The loans to Chrysler carried an interest rate of about 10%, which was below market (BELOW MARKET, those were heady days indeed. Some home mortgages were 14%) at that time and the U.S. government received warrants for 14.4 million shares of Chrysler stock. Lee Iacocca was brought in as CEO of Chrysler to manage the rebuilding.
As far as GM , I suppose it is easier to look better if you tell bond holders to shove it and get in line behind the unions. That's the way it has always been done in bankruptcy, is it not?
Have they (GM) paid back the money the government 'loaned' them.

My particular favorite part of your post is calling people partisan for reading supposed tripe, then saying it must be that progressives foam at the mouth and start barking over certain things.
