It really boils down to: stop politicizing health care. These underhanded back-room deals put thousands of underprivileged women at risk. That is just plain wrong, no matter how you look at it.

The only way to take politics out of health care is to institute single payer socialized health care like the civilized world does.
This politicalized for profit system we now have costs us twice as much as what the countries with the very best health care pay. This chart is already out of date. Our costs are much higher now, and our ranking is much lower now.

Good point. Single payer asks "what is the most effective way to reduce breast cancer - for the good of the country". Capitalized medicine asks "how do we make a profit from breast cancer".
The outcome is vividly shown in one of your charts as it relates to infant death - http://peltiertech.com/images/2009-12/Spend-Life-XY2.png . We pay twice as much for medical, and have "below average" life expectancy at birth. Where are those "pro"-"lifers" now?
Kinda shoots down the theory that private money will solve all ills (unless, of course, you are the CEO's or shareholders).

Given the choice between having a healthcare system run by politicians accountable to the American people or private sector entities who are SOLELY focused on their profitability, I would GLADLY choose a single payer system. Medicare operates MUCH better than privatized healthcare insurance EVER has.
Healthcare decisions SHOULD be based on society's healthcare needs, NOT the private sector's greed.

Do you realize that starting in 2014, all of the working poor will be covered under Medicare?
Two large segments of our population will be covered by the government for their health care: the elderly and people who live below 133% of the poverty line.
Too many progressives cried and whined that Obama 'sold out' the public option too early. However, in reality he began what could easily become a single payer system. Shortly it'll be at 133% of the poverty line for full Medicare, once the lower middle class figures out that they make too much money for the best insurance out there, they'll start clamoring for that number to be raised.

While I was disappointed that so much got compromised away, we also have to realize that this is the foot in the door, and that more will be added later when people realize how cost effective this is.

Discovering Ari Fleischer's greasy fingerprints on this political disaster should come as a surprise to no one. The Bush Administration and officials who worked in it have ALL proven themselves incompetent.
An employer or hiring manager would have to be completely stupid to give them any employment/consulting consideration whatsoever.
geejayeFeb 4, 2012
Looks like Ari Fleischer did his job all right:
* the anti-gay, anti-choice Karen Handel he hired stays
* top Komen executives who felt firmly about helping women access breast cancer screening are jumping ship. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/02/susan-g-komen_n_1250651.html
And now, Komen is saying that their reversal "does not mean that Planned Parenthood is guaranteed future grants". http://digg.com/newsbar/topnews/komen_caved_or_did_it
Apparently, pink ribbons have now become synonymous with the right-wing anti-gay, anti-women fundamentalists.
Well played, Ari.
gaia242Feb 4, 2012
SERIOUSLY!!!! ya gotta make fighting breast canser political?!? Bad Ari BAD!
crashdvisFeb 4, 2012
Right. Like Planned Parenthood isn't political right? Laughable.
laurahoustonFeb 4, 2012
So this was pure politics, planned for months. Someone should take a close look at whoever Ari Fleischer associates with and works for, he's always trouble.
roofviewFeb 4, 2012
Interesting, Ari Fleischer has one real big fan that I know of and that person is Ari Fleischer, personally I would not take street directions from this guy.
skews13Feb 4, 2012
Looks like it's a toss up between Georgia, and Texas for rightwing nutjob of the year award.
rixar13Feb 4, 2012
"Ari Fleischer, former press secretary for George W. Bush and prominent right-wing pundit, was secretly involved in the Komen Foundation’s strategy regarding Planned Parenthood."
Enough damage hasn't been done???
Fleischer’s relationship with Komen and the Planned Parenthood controversy was previously undisclosed.

Yeah, winning the public attention as being "pro breast cancer" would tend to make a charity hire emergency PR flack company.
aesthetigeekFeb 5, 2012
The competence of team Bush continues to amaze me. Can we get Dick Cheney a job teaching safety to duck hunters?
crashdvisFeb 4, 2012
They raise the money and they should be free to donate it to who they want. You don't like it, great, don't donate to the Koman Foundation. If you do that though, you just show that there is only one issue regarding women that really matters to you. Apparently in this world, abortion is more important that fighting breast cancer.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

You are neglecting to mention that komen is violating their own rules.
They are also funding Penn State which is under investigation because coaches have been buggering little boys.
But that is ok.
