I find it amazing that cigarettes and alcohol are legal. Yet both are extremely dangerous to the body, more so than Marijuana. Clearly we are missing out on a source of revenue by not making Marijuana legal. Personally I don't use the stuff, but then again I don't use a lot of legal mind altering substances.

"Any law that nobody follows is bad law." ~ My Philosophy of Law professor.
The circumstances that led to pot being banned are ridiculous. The amount of money that can be gained by legalizing pot is enormous. Taking this step is common sense.

But then, Common sense is no longer common.

I really like the "like wine" idea. Also wine, unlike beer/liq isn't nearly as commercial. I think keeping pot farms like wineries would be the perfect solution.

As long as the prices were brought under control, that'd be fine with me.

While not a bad idea, who do you think would control this "regulated" industry? It's a sure bet Republicans and their cronies would find a way to control the vast majority of it and run it as, yet another, predatory monopoly.

Which is why keeping pot farms like wineries would be ideal. Far be it from me to know how to do that though....
Can you imagine...
Mmmm excellent aroma from Kush Valley Farms, but i think I like the floral aspects of the Budland better. Napa would never be the same :P

That's what the alcohol lobby is afraid of...
Personally, I'm in favor of legalization as long as special interest groups don't monopolize it. Small family farms need a boost of economic opportunities and this would be a welcomed break.

As long as it is "revenue neutral" - Republican Mantra!

Only dumb-ass liberals think government should "regulate" MJ. Legalize and get the f**king government OUT OF IT!!! You people can't seem to wipe your own ass without the government involved somehow.....Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Liberals suggesting regulating MJ are trying to COMPROMISE.
They see that the laws are irrational, and they are trying to persuade non-responsive elected officials to accept some rational middle ground.
I.E. if MJ is taxed and regulated, officials can say that they are increasing revenue and that they are not out to let dope fiends run wild.
Marijuana laws are not just wrong-headed, they are irrational. Marijuana is a Schedule I substance, implying that it has no medical use. Yet the Department of Health and Human Services has a medical patent on marijuana (US patent #6630507).
Also, synthetic THC (sold under the trade name Marinol) is less strictly regulated than the raw agricultural product (Marinol is a Schedule III substance). This is despite evidence that synthetic commercial opiates are abused at rates far in excess of opium or heroin. The assumption that pharmaceuticals are safer has little to substantiate it.
Many people certainly would like to grow their own marijuana, but many people would rather just buy the stuff. Those who would rather just buy the stuff probably want assurances that their product is safe.

Digg should have a save option, this was an excellent well thought out response.

And yet another ignorant right-winger is annihilated by logic and critical thought. Methinks it's their modus operandi.

They hope pot heads are more gullible.

I guess if you have a beer every now and then, you're an alcoholic? Maybe people just like to smoke a joint once in awhile. Logic, friend, you should consider it sometime.
