<waves arms in the air> It's a TRAP!
bobosmitorFeb 22, 2012
Might very well be. Keep an eye on them.

Never trust a government saying they are backing away from something that has been pushed this far. Semper Vigilans

The internet: "Yeah. Just try and ratify it. We double-dare you. >=):

This is good news. We can only hope that the European courts aren't thoroughly in the hands of conservative activist judges like in the US at this stage.
leonard2Feb 22, 2012
Doesn't the Obamessiah support this treaty?
mistermysterFeb 22, 2012
Do the Republicons?
leonard2Feb 22, 2012
Don't know. Obamessiah signed ACTA without Congress.
Pretty sure the Democrooks support ACTA.
timedalkatFeb 23, 2012
ACTA's been making the rounds since the last administration. It's non partisan, and fully supported by both corporate owned parties.

Wasn't SOPA defeated with the assistance of GOPers in the House and Senate?
mtownFeb 22, 2012
Only after the Internet rallied together and those GOPers realized that they might not re-elected if they continued to support the bill.
But overall SOPA had a lot of bi-partisan dumbassory. There where morons on both sides supporting it.
Ouzel7Feb 22, 2012
Isn't that's how it's supposed to work (but almost never does)? That the constituents say, "Hey! You can't vote for this or you'll lose my vote."Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Hopefully ACTA will die but even after victory we must remain vigilant.
The sleazy entities behind this will try again and we must be ready to stop any future attempts at treaties like ACTA.
mistermysterFeb 22, 2012
This is big. This is a milestone. Now that ACTA is in the courts, it will take a LOT longer to have it ratified, and by then it will probably be too late- when European elections start to happen. And that will were the fun begins! With these wide-scale protests, defending ACTA will become a real poisonous position to be in!
This is great news. HUGE win for everyone who wants to keep our internet free and open!

I think that a petition asking Lamar Smith to resign would be a clear message to at least some of them on the Hill.
