Anyone else feel like the media has pushed Romney and Gingrich into this boxing match, therefore pushing everyone else out of the way... especially Ron Paul? Did you know that every time there is a debate, DrudgeReport has a poll where you can vote for who you think won? They also have a poll every time there is a state vote. And every single time, Ron Paul is always the winner, no matter who the media tells you had the strongest debate or the outcome of the actual state votes.
There is also this idea that the voters should choose a candidate that can beat Obama. Believe it or not, that's their primary concern over everything else (I expanded on this in my blog: dumbthemedia.com). Watching all of this, it makes one wonder who these people think they're voting for and, after they become president, how many times they will kick themselves for electing someone who has dragged this country into more wars and another depression. Just a thought.
craig1958Feb 1, 2012
...therefore; if the presidency was decided by the readers of the DrudgeReport, Ron Paul would be the winner.
In a related story; if the presidency was decided by the viewers of Sesame Street, Oscar the Grouch would be the winner.
realcoolguy9022Feb 1, 2012
Actually in the online Sesame Street poll, Ron Paul inexplicably has the lead.
langfordFeb 1, 2012
From outside of the state they are currently in at the time, it naturally looks like the media insisting that they are fighting, but within the state that they are in, they are actually perpetrating an ungodly flood of negative TV commercials against teach other.
usarugulaFeb 1, 2012
Jesus Christ, always the media-victims, aren't you?
salbatrossFeb 1, 2012
I think the boohooing is crock most of the time, but in this case, I think Ron Paul really is a victim of the media (which is not a comment on my part on his superiority as a candidate), at least of Fox News (which, as its apologists like to point out, has huge viewership).
user500Feb 1, 2012
If Ron Paul cant win Florida he cant win anyplace. Its his demographic group: Old rich white folks.
brooks007Feb 1, 2012
Actually his demographic is young well educated internet savvy people. Old people are brainwashed by too much TV.
jefftsFeb 1, 2012
Talk about uninformed. His demographic is young people and independents.
salbatrossFeb 1, 2012
I think you're thinking of every other Republican candidate.
linuxpersonFeb 1, 2012
Says the kid who whines about "Faux Noise" on a routine basis.
usarugulaFeb 1, 2012
Hmmm, don't think I've ever used the term "Faux Noise", so I'm not really sure why you've employed quotation marks here.
Additionally, Fox News, holding nearly 50% of the television news market share, and AM Political Talk radio, which is 90% hardcore conservative, are precisely the reasons that accusations of a vast, left-wing media conspiracy ring false.
njdoo7Feb 1, 2012
Where did someone suggest a left-wing media conspiracy? Looks like a straw man.
The original poster even referenced a right-wing site that does this.
linuxpersonFeb 1, 2012
Republicans are so concerned about nominating someone who can beat Obama they will nominate an Obama clone like Mittens.
bwiiiFeb 1, 2012
True that. Romney is the Democrat's best hedge against an improbable Obama loss. No matter whether Rom or Obam is the winner, NOTHING changes...
njdoo7Feb 1, 2012
Obamney.
There is no difference between the two on meaningful issues.
Federal Reserve? Yes
Serve bankers and multinationals? Yes
War? Yes
Empire? Yes
Gloablism? Yes
Debt growth? Yes
Who cares what color shirt the puppet has on, when they do the same thing.

sellout country for personal gain? yes

Yeah, it's really weird how my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles...two thirds of our family don't vote on websites, have never heard of Drudge and only watch mainstream media.

"Politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't, you have no choice, you have owners, they own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They've long since bought and paid for the senate, the congress, the statehouses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pocket, and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls! They spent millions of dollars every year lobbying to get what they want. We know what they want, they want more for themselves and less for everybody else.
......
It's a big club, and you aint in it. You and I are not in the big club.
By the way, it's the same big club they beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long, beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think, and what to buy.
The table is tilted folks, the game is rigged. And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care. Good honest hardworking people, white collar blue collar, it doesn't matter what kind of shirt you have on. Good honest hardworking people continue...these are people of modest means...continue to elect these rich ****s****rs who don't give a f**k about them.
They don't give a f**k about you, they don't give a f**k about you, they don't care about you. At all. At all. At all.
That's what the owners count on, the fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red white and blue dick that's being shoved up their assh**es every single day.

The media/news always determines who wins the primaries. Media constantly focuses on Romney; national republican polls favor Ron Paul over Romney by far. The media tells people who had "the strongest debate," and like an ignorant flock of sheep, voters listen and blindly vote in favor of whose face shows the most on the news. May the richest candidate that pays the media for the most attention win - American ignorance.

Money has spoken, if he has to spend 5:1 to win that means that nobody likes him.
langfordFeb 1, 2012
He was probably going to win Florida anyhow, the money just bought him a wide margin.
Surprising that Santorum is still acting like he isn't going to drop out.
matthrFeb 1, 2012
If he can spend 5 to 1 it means someone likes him enough to donate large sums to him. In general the more electable candidate gets more money, both because the same qualities that make him likely to get donations are the same ones that will get him elected, and if you're going to drop huge chunks of change on an election you are going to pick the one most likely to win.
smpaisnutrientsFeb 1, 2012
Or the one that promises to cover your ass and protect your interests above all else. Money does NOT equal popularity. Yiu old enough to remember ross perot?
matthrFeb 1, 2012
I do remember him, but I fail to see the corollary. If I recall most of his money came from his personal funds, something to the tune of 100 million or so. Romney's money comes from other people, so someone thinks he is electable/desirable. Given the funds he has probably quite a few someones.
matthrFeb 1, 2012
Thank the FSM, another couple of beatings and maybe even newt will get it through his thick skull.

I heard he won because of his giant Mormon penis.
ferretmanFeb 1, 2012
Good job Mitt!
You appealed to Floridians more than the other candidates. I'm a bit surprised (I honestly expected either Gingrich or Santorum to give you more of a run) but there ya go.
realcoolguy9022Feb 1, 2012
I wondering WHO will give Mitt a run for his money. Delegates aren't being dumped out winner take all in most states (Florida is breaking rules and only gets half their delegates to award). Anyway the reason I'm wondering "who" is that the contrast between Gingrich and Romney is so weak in that they both are very much moderates.
There isn't that clear contrast as much as Gingrich pretends it exists. Supposedly it's family values voters that have taken Newt up as their champion and social conservative. WHAT THE HELL??! The guy who left his wife on a deathbed and has gone through even more marriages after that is the family values Republican? At the very least it should be Santorum who those voters who would flock to, or even Ron Paul who has had a VERY long marriage.
Then you have Newt sounding like the Occupy Wall Street people, at least his superpacs still do when they are going after Romney and his personal wealth. Then you have the financial issues and to me all 3 are a mess and have had their hands in big government spending.
In the end I conclude it HAS to be Paul OR an outsider that somehow drops into this race. Newt is not going to be able to challenge Romney who still is most likely to win this (duh/obvious). However Mitt may destroy the party since I don't think Republicans can stomach yet another moderate/big government guy.
Paul's problem is he is the weakest in the primaries. Romney is going to have the opposite problem, he is going to be the weakest in the general election. Remember what electability got us when we ran the moderate John McCain? I'm not sure if a McCain with better hair is going to do any better this time around.
ncmusicFeb 1, 2012
Paul won't win.
It's pretty much mathematically impossible for someone else to enter the race and win. They couldn't get on enough ballots.
realcoolguy9022Feb 1, 2012
Then I believe there is a chance that the Republican party at least at the national level is finished. The two 'choices' are two sides of the big government coin and that's a huge problem for the party that is supposed to represent fiscal conservatism.
ncmusicFeb 1, 2012
The party has almost never represented fiscal conservatives, it's social conservatives with fiscal conservative rhetoric. There are some exceptions, but you need only look at how they govern to see that is the case.
ncmusicFeb 1, 2012
I should say almost never is at least in my life time though there may be historical...outliers.
jacobdisFeb 1, 2012
He didn't appeal to Floridians, he appealed to the Media. Floridians, like every other state-full of sheep, vote for whose face they see the most on the news. Half of them didn't even watch the debate, they watched and believed whom the news paid the most attention to and, more importantly, which candidate paid which media outlets the most money.
johnoshagFeb 1, 2012
Money has spoken.
drich255Feb 1, 2012
I disagree. For example, no amount of money could have saved Perry after his poor debate performances.
And the author of the article disagrees. FTA: Florida should not have been a surprise because the electorate is by and large not a socially conservative electorate. My plane from South Carolina landed in Palm Beach on January 28th, and by that evening I was speaking in Miami to the Log Cabin Republicans at their c**ktail Caucus. The Log Cabin Republicans are the preeminent gay Republican group in the United States. While they certainly care about issues in the gay community such as the successful repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell," they also are passionate about core Republican issues. They want lower taxes, reduced spending, and a strong national defense.

Why hasn't Romney spoken out against the NDAA? Unless you are going to fight to get that repealed you are not fit to be president.
dougchristianFeb 1, 2012
He has spoken on it. He was very clear in the presidential debate. He supports the bill wholeheartedly and defended it on national television. His only problem was with Obama's signing statement that said it doesn't apply to US citizens. He thinks it should.
http://www.infowars.com/romney-would-sign-ndaa/
The question is, as someone who pretends to care deeply about this, why do you give Romney cover, while attacking Obama?
