greenwichtime.com — former U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn : the head of the Motion Picture Association , which is lobbying Congress to protect Hollywood Fat Cats -- Dodd was regrouping after a number of his former colleagues soured on the initiative ... In one his first interviews since Wednesday's Internet blackout, in which a host of search engines and social networking websites went dark in protest of the tandem bills, known as the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA), Dodd attributed the public outcry over the plan to fear-mongering

Chris Dodd attributed the public outcry over SOPA and PIPA to fear-mongering.
PS : Dodd is barred from registering as a lobbyist for two years under ethics rules.

Since when did Chris Dodd care about ethics. Remember the sweet deal that Dodd was given at Countrywide?

I think he should be regrouping in hell, where he belongs.
skinturtleJan 23, 2012
there are many of them that need to be thrown in hell right now.

If there were ever any question about Dodd's contributions to the Housing crisis and Wall Street shenanigans, his current behavior removes ALL doubt.
This weasel is rotten to the core.

So according to Dodd the fear of losing our freedom of speech and expression online is "fear-mongering" while the fear of a few unauthorized downloads allegedly threatening to destroy the movie industry is....somehow not "fear-mongering"?? These kinds of tactics can cut both ways, pal.

Ha, exactly my thoughts!

"They say that their content and goods are being ripped off by the foreign operators of pirate websites outside the jurisdiction of U.S. Department of Justice, with a projected loss of $58 billion."
It's only a loss if those people would have otherwise paid for the content. Any new legislation cannot be passed until everyone involved understands that.
eraptorJan 23, 2012
Excellent point!
It should ALSO be noted that U.S. legal jurisdiction ENDS at our border. These legislative efforts ONLY affect those in the U.S., NOT the majority of "foreign operators".

Dodd has major entitlement issues...
skinturtleJan 23, 2012
They want to throw people in prison because of a SONG. Think abut that...a frivilous movie or a worse yet..a SONG.

One thing we definitely don't need more of is the government saying what we can and can't do.

"We're not going to do damage to global Internet or freedom of speech," said Dodd.
Yeah, trust this corrupt old Senator and his bankrollers. They'll treat everyone fairly because they said so.
f**k that guy and all his compadres.

Dodd needs a major reality check.
1/4 of the bandwidth used is used for piracy?! Give me a break! Piracy isn't lost profits to begin with in probably 60%+ of the cases! I know when I used to pirate music/videos, it helped me get more familiar with products like stuff in the UK, Japan, etc. that I wouldn't have otherwise ever known about.
Wanna make more money on DVD sales, well...(I haven't thought of ramifications here so maybe I'm wrong...) kill PAL/NTSC formats and use a global one.
Just my take on it, but by God we don't need to let anything pass like this.
Pirates always have helped innovate technology. They don't create loss just because someone who probably wouldn't/couldn't buy the mediocre crap out nowadays has a copy of your 'warez'.

They have cash? I thought they were being stolen into poverty. Isn't massive theft the issue. Ah, BIG MONEY IS BIGGER THAN THEFT.

Ethics rules should prevent politicians from ever being lobbyists, not just 2 years!!!
get money out of politics so that good decision making, the truth, and the people are represented 1st!
jphrJan 23, 2012
Please sign the petition to the White House to have this despicable R.A.T. investigated for ethics violations.

How about regrouping on a high speed rail line.

Lobbying is financially good.
