It's too late, they've already punctured their own balloon - reversing at this stage will only alienate those who were happy with the original decision. I, for one, will never be affiliated with SGK in the future, they've shown their true colors for all to see.
Regardless of their apology, I won't support Komen any further and instead donate directly to Planned Parenthood or other breast cancer organizations. Komen is just too politicized.
And thus it begins. Someone insulted the darling of the extreme Left and now all the good that SGK could do (which will be described as not really that much good anyway) will be tossed under the rug. Got cancer? Oh well.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
It is not, never has been. It is an old organization. It is simply a provider of health services for women.
Now, has it had to stand up and fight, yes. And find support, yes. Who was it that has lied about what they do? (KYL) Where did he lie? (CONGRESS)
You may believe they murder, many do not believe that at all. I believe absolutely in personal rights, and that includes a woman's right to decide. Sloppy, I even allow you a choice over your body, you will not be forced by me to have an abortion.
Fortunately a vast majority of our republic's citizens believe in women's healthcare and the rights guaranteed by our Constitution. Wonder what else is on the social conservative extremist agenda, mandatory circumcision?
I think cavity searches are next. Rand Paul objected to a by hand search over his clothing by a TSA government rep. He was on his way to speak on "Government control of the uterus". The uterus is an interior body part. So my guess is cavity searches are fine!
There's nothing to forgive, though, since PP wasn't doing the breast cancer work that they were being given $680,000 to do; cutting PP loose was the right thing to do.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of low cost or free mammograms in the USA. *
But I do understand being "really ugly", you think poor women should die.
Actually, your attitude shows exactly why Komen shouldn't shouldn't reverse their position -- because they have forever earned the scorn of the far left, who made such a big stink in the first place, and there's no forgiveness coming. Trying to placate the far left will only serve to alienate the conservatives who are flocking to them now.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Indeed. This decision is almost as bad as the first one. They've now alienated both sides of the most contentious issue of our times. The organization is sunk.
They blew it big time... this will be a case study. I will never donate to them again, and with their kimono now wide open many millions of people will realize that the foundation is a sham for high salaries and personal agendas - not for the cure for cancer.
That is an interesting metric and one that deserves further consideration. I'm convinced that the major pollsters are under-sampling those who've gone land-line only. This groups tend to be younger and more Democratic. I've also noticed some odd goings on in Rasmussen. When Obama has good polling days, he tends to perform worse in matchups. This is the opposite of what you would expect. I hypothesize that it is the result of oversampling conservatives.
It's funny how conservative controversies like cutting funding for PP gets a slow drumbeat of support. But when you push a conservative principal hard, as SGK did, you get a major blowback.
and f**k Karen Handel, the anti-choice Republican wannabe politician, who was the driving force behind all this. Remember, the Susan G. Komen Foundation didn't have to go with her right wing s**t, but they did. Their credibility is gone forever.
These days because of funding, they partner with an outside provider for free or reduced cost mammography.
It makes sense because the Doc reading the scan is very specifically trained and that is too big an expense for their budget. But it is Planned Parenthood providing the service.
FAUX and Friends suggested Walgreen's as an easy alternative. They do scan documents and have photo albums to smash a boob, don't they?

It is still PP providing the reduced cost or free service.
....if that was all they were up to, maybe there wouldn't be a backlash.
However, they seem to have political motivations that I wouldn't want to help further with my $$.
Komen still needs to commit to actually continuing to fund Planned Parenthood; the "reversal" I saw did no such thing. Also, they must fire rabidly anti-choice Karen Handel (who as a Georgia gubernatorial candidate promised to defund Planned Parenthood).
Well there goes my donation. I wanted to know they were focused on breast cancer; now I know my funds will go not just for that but for whatever the hell else they feel like funding.
While I disagree with your position, I respect that you plan to put your money where your mouth is. You can check out the ACS's annual report to see where they spend their money.
If you read the actual apology, it is not much of an apology. It is kind of an "I am sorry that you are so upset. Let's just get past this." type of apology. They do not say that they will fund new grants to PP, just that they are allowed to apply for grants. If this were a true apology there would have been some sort of mention of the good works that Planned Parenthood has done in the past and a hope that SGK would continue to work with them in the future. This is a legaleze idea of an apology at best and "Get over yourself and please continue sending us money." at worst.

The media is not outraged because it's a very different situation.
The decision by the Obama administration limited an exemption to a regulation. All organizations that provide insurance to their employees for prescription drugs must cover all prescription drugs - including contraceptives. In the case of the situation you mention, the administration limited the exemption for religious beliefs to truly religious organizations - the churches whose purpose is to proselytize their faith and who generally only employ people of their faith and who agree with their tenets.
If hospitals and other religiously affiliated organizations want to hire those who are not members of their religion, then they have to comply with the same rules that apply to all other organizations. The administration's position does not require any individual to take contraceptives in violation of their religious beliefs. It simply says that organizations don't get to pick and choose what prescription medications their insurance policies cover.

On this side of the looking-glass, Planned Parenthood provides breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings and relatives and acquaintances of mine have had cancer screenings done at Planned Parenthood health centers.
As a person who has done several Race for the Cures, I find you (once again) making an assumption backed up by nothing, thus showing us what a teinousha you are.
PS - Why didn't you ever get back to us with all these facts to back up your claim on the thread about Bloomberg donating money to PP? Cat got your tongue?
They do mammograms with that money you ignorant slut:
"Through a grant from the local Central Texas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Planned Parenthood in Waco provides life-saving mammogram screening and abnormal mammogram follow-up diagnostic testing for low-income women."
Can you tell me the real reason Komen halted the funding? If not, YOU are the ignorant one. You don't even see the stupid assumptions being made. The decision was not political or moral, it was just a temporary halt during a general review of procedures affecting ALL programs they fund.
And the brainwashed mob had a hissy fit.
I don't give a f**k who gets the money or what they do with it but misinformation pisses me off.

Not all websites need to have "www" in their url.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWW#WWW_prefix
The use of 'www' as a subdomain name is not required by any technical or policy standard; indeed, the first ever web server was called nxoc01.cern.ch
Indeed, going to www.komen.org will just lead to a redirect to their actual site.

Your supposed desire for a "useful" conversation is belied by the fact that you started with "leftist wackos" and then moved on to calling people's responses "faux outrage" and "an emotional knee-jerk reaction."
If you want a "useful" adult conversation, set the example. Otherwise you're just being a poopy head, too.

Maybe the Komen foundation isn't that well known under whatever wet rock you inhabit but many of us "leftist wackos" were regular supporters until this debacle.
One of my dearest friends died of breast cancer many years ago and I've made a contribution to Komen in her name every year on her birthday but if the Komen foundation has become a tool of the religious right, they won't get another dime from me. I'll make my memorial contribution to some other organization.

You're not a wacko if you have a logical, thought out basis for your political, economic, and social ideologies, regardless of left, right, or center.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

PP doesn't do mammograms, so why were they getting $680,000/year from Komen in the first place? Regardless of the politics, cutting the funding was the right decision for Komen.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

On this side of the looking-glass, Planned Parenthood provides breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings and relatives and acquaintances of mine have had cancer screenings done at Planned Parenthood health centers.
Or do you think they just imagined it?
kareemachanFeb 3, 2012
As a person who has done several Race for the Cures, I find you (once again) making an assumption backed up by nothing, thus showing us what a teinousha you are.
PS - Why didn't you ever get back to us with all these facts to back up your claim on the thread about Bloomberg donating money to PP? Cat got your tongue?
davidnivenFeb 3, 2012
About Bloomberg being quite liberal in his policies? Do you really need me to back up that assertion? It's pretty apparent.
diefreeFeb 3, 2012
That means you once again lied, got called out, and as usual ran away like the intellectual coward you are.
sbuckley00Feb 4, 2012
Actually it is not.

Just wait until the brothers or sisters realize that mommy aborted one of their brothers or sisters..many times and that they could have been next.
savetheseaFeb 3, 2012
what does that have to do with breast cancer and Planned Parenthood's use of the money for breast cancer screening?
charlotte_webFeb 3, 2012
PP doesn't do mammograms.
theswashbucklerFeb 4, 2012
They do mammograms with that money you ignorant slut:
"Through a grant from the local Central Texas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Planned Parenthood in Waco provides life-saving mammogram screening and abnormal mammogram follow-up diagnostic testing for low-income women."

Another victory for the ignorant mob.
bookantFeb 4, 2012
You're about 24 hours behind. The ignorant mob did win a short term temporary victory, but it's been reversed now.
whiteravenFeb 6, 2012
Can you tell me the real reason Komen halted the funding? If not, YOU are the ignorant one. You don't even see the stupid assumptions being made. The decision was not political or moral, it was just a temporary halt during a general review of procedures affecting ALL programs they fund.
And the brainwashed mob had a hissy fit.
I don't give a f**k who gets the money or what they do with it but misinformation pisses me off.
