Bye.
ghengiskhan1Jan 9, 2012
This seems to be a very strange time to be resigning. Less than a year away from an election?
Well, Im sure the official reason given is very convincing.

he didn't "resign" — he was fired...
craig1958Jan 10, 2012
It was either now, or wait until after the election to fire him. The WH must have decided he was a political liability.
jhw539Jan 10, 2012
I have not heard anything suggesting that he was a liability, just a lot of rumors that he wasn't the asset they needed. The guy paid his taxes and such just fine.
craig1958Jan 10, 2012
I'm assuming it's a political problem, or maybe he just doesn't play well with others? For some reason, they felt that needed him gone now instead of waiting for the begining of the next term.

Not sure why you find the timing "very strange" at all. Skinner left in summer of 1992, just a few months before an election (in a time when the election did not start a year early). The date of his exit makes perfect sense, a staff shifting into an election year mode and spinning a key ally out into the don't-coordinate-with-them private PAC world. The *duration* of his tenure is what is a bit odd and suggests that he wasn't getting the job done as hoped behind the scenes.

Look for the Valerie Jarrett label ?
This resignation will further the growing perception that the Obama White House is in internal disarray

Rats leaving a sinking ship.
eraptorJan 11, 2012
You got the rat part right, but the Obama Administration is anything but a sinking ship. Daley should have NEVER been appointed to that post since he was always the wrong man for the job.
My guess is that the appointment was for Rahm's benefit since the country never stood to gain anything from Daley's corporate favoritism.

Daley and Jeff Immelt were always the wrong men to help redirect the nation's economic course so it can recover.
The country needs a radically different economic direction and administration officials willing to fight for it.
