And as Mormons know, the definition of marriage has always been exactly the same.
ghengiskhan1Jan 7, 2012
I get it. Well done.
NeosopheusJan 6, 2012
I'd like to see his math on the 50% divorce rate.
austinjameshereJan 6, 2012
Is this like that time he couldn't spell socialist? Yeah, nobody pays attention to Beck anymore... He needs to go away - he's spread enough misinformation and done enough damage to last 1000 Republican dog years.
johnyc252Jan 6, 2012
I thought this tool went away.
mtownJan 6, 2012
I did too, but then I woke up from the dream I was having.

"My solution is take government out of marriage entirely."
Did Beck actually say something sensible? Of course Beck thinks this will prevent gay, polygamous, and polyandrous marriages when in fact it will give people the freedom to choose who, how many, and under what circumstances they can enter into a marriage contract as long as all parties can give legal consent. The government's sole responsibility will be to insure the contract is upheld.
As it stands now, the US government at the state and federal level acts as a gatekeeper saying who can and can't get married. They don't call it a marriage license for nothing. It's a permission slip, not a certificate of recognition like your birth certificate. SCOTUS was wrong when it said race could not be used to deny a couple a marriage certificate. What SCOTUS should have done was ban marriage certificates altogether.
CrescentSkies_2Jan 6, 2012
Long story short, it makes no sense.
anomaly100Jan 6, 2012
Eggzactly. Beck supports it but he doesn't.

The equation for marriage ought to be "one consenting adult + one consenting adult = marriage"
retracJan 6, 2012
What I get from his equation: Marriage = 2, Man = 1, Woman = 1. So his statement about 2 men + 1 woman = marriage is wrong ( 2+1 isn't 2....). He proved himself wrong!
stuffradioJan 7, 2012
1 Man + 1 Woman = 2, not 2+1=2. I know you're trying to be funny, but your Math interpretation is flawed.
retracJan 7, 2012
Nope, you just don't get it. If man = 1, woman = 1 then marriage must = 2. So if you change it to man + man or woman + woman you still get marriage. But if you try to have 2 men + one woman you don't get marriage because it would be 3, not 2. Thanks for coming out.
fitzal7714 days ago
Correct, the basis of his equation is that according to the government Man does not equal Woman. According to all Equal Protection laws, however, Man does equal Woman.
sly7765Jan 6, 2012
Its just your basic " if men can marry other men then men will want to marry _____ next" argument. Hate this guy and I think he's a danger to the rest of the country with all the misinformation he spreads. I'm all for free speech but putting this man on TV without some type of disclaimer is the equivalent of yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater.

I wouldn't think that Beck could spell math.
Mormons aren't the folks that I want to define marriage. They are the ones throwing their teen-aged male children out of their desert compounds so they can't compete with the eldars for the little girls.

Was this the same one used to justify Apartheid?
ghengiskhan1Jan 7, 2012
Me (1 man) + 2(women) = one sexy good time. Yeah baby!
Im not mormon or muslim, but I think polygamy could be cool. I'd do it with the right two sexy, college educated women. I couldnt do more than two though. And they would both have to be bisexual.
Giggity.
neotechniJan 7, 2012
Both those groups use it an excuse to marry under-aged girls
thebrettdJan 7, 2012
Just because SOME radicals in these groups use it for that reason, doesn't mean that polygamy is wrong in general..
daboobzJan 8, 2012
i agree. Personally, I would never marry more than one woman. But if some guy wants to marry another guy or if some guy wants to marry two guys, whatever.
It doesn't affect me one bit. As long as we're talking about consenting adults, it's none of my business.

Beck asserts that the constitution is based on judeo-christian values, so we have to uphold judeo-christian values. He says if you want to rewrite the constitution, you have to base it on something already written, even if it's just a book about cupcakes, so we can go back to the original source material. He doesn't seem to understand that the constitution was created AS that original source material. You don't have to write a book just so you can write a constitution based on that book -- you just write a constitution. If you need to go back to the source, you look at the constitution. The bible is not the basis for law in our country -- the constitution is. And as far as the government is concerned, no documents came before the constitution.

Solution is to remove government from marriage completely-- no liscense, no state authority, no nothing. That means revamping the tax code, which is a great opportunity to fix that mess too.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Simple equation:
Definition of marriage: 1 man + 1 woman= marriage
Gays cry bigotry not to change definition to: 1 whatever + 1 whatever = marriage
Some ask "what is bigotry in this case?" Gays argue imposing one's religion or sense of morality upon others is bigotry.
New definition of marriage using gays sense of morality: anyone/anything/of any number + anyone/anything/of any number = marriage.
That's pretty much it. If I may not define marriage as 1 man + 1 woman, then you may not confine it to 1 human + 1 human.
Using gay logic, marriage is whatever anyone defines it as, for to confine it is bigotry.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Interesting, I looked in the merriam webster dictionary and found the following definition of marriage: the mutual relation of married persons.
Persons being key here. Noone is saying they should be able to marry your dog Fido. Fido cannot sign a contract..
chassupJan 7, 2012
What about 2 guys and 3 women... is that OK? And who are you to say "persons" doesn't include dogs and cats? Just because a dictionary defines a word one way, moral relativism allows one to use any definition one wants... that's fair and tolerant.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
thebrettdJan 7, 2012
I think 2 guys and 3 women should be allowed, as long as the tax code does not give unfair advantages to individuals in this kind of living arrangement in order to prevent abuse.
Again, I can say persons doesn't include dogs and cats, because dogs and cats cannot enter into a legally binding contract.
