hmmm funny that this would happen ... isnt obama getting a bit jumpy on everything these days
stromprommerSep 10, 2010
this is the kind of story that would get buried on the old digg
sibtigerSep 11, 2010
Are you saying it should get buried or you love the redesign which allows such content to shine through?
diggisawesomeeSep 11, 2010
Doesn't particularly matter - the point is that we had the choice.

Anyways, the idea was not a real solution. The idea was pure symbolism, and the wrong type of symbolism to boot.
President Obama correctly recognized the problem, and made a decision.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

If someone drove up to my house in a van with, as the article says, "Carter-era solar panels," I'd tell them to go to hell too. Panel technology and efficiency has advanced quite a bit since then.
rhawk187Sep 11, 2010
If I were in the position he is, telling everyone else they should embrace solar power, I'd tell them to bring me some new ones and we'll be happy to install them.
rungreenpowerSep 11, 2010
on 2009 he just said that we will turn a big part from our energy need to renewable sources.
you can see him talk about this here:

9th anniversary of the WTC attacks and yet not one article on the Front Page or in Upcoming. I think Kevin managed to accomplish what the terrorists couldn't. He killed Digg.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The left side of his mouth says one thing, and the right side says something else. What a dog.

I actually read the "article" it is another pathetic blog attempt at empty hits. The panels are water heating type and they were first installed in 1975 during the Carter administration to heat water in the kitchen. Then, they were sent to a college and retired there as well. Why in the world would anyone, even a homeowner re-install some crap like this with their own money, let alone taxpayer dollars in a recession?
What a misleading hyped bulls**t headline. Shame on Digg for letting it get to the front page. That blog is a disgrace.
Now WHERE IN HELL is the BURY BUTTON?!???!
Digg is frikking dead. What a waste.
ravagedsoulSep 11, 2010
No one is suggesting reinstalling the original panels; they want to install the latest technology. The use of the original panel was merely symbolic.
Further, a company has offered to install a system at no cost to the taxpayer, as a donation. (Not to mention that there actually *is* a return on the investment with these systems, so even if it cost money it would probably be a good idea.)

bmicallefSep 11, 2010
Agreed, thank you for clarifying.
While water heating solar panels certainly do have their uses, the money spent installing a few water heating panels are hardly worth the gain for the White House.
Funding modern renewable initiatives in the commercial sectors as well as education is far more important to me personally.
thuktunSep 15, 2010
@ravagedsoul "No one is suggesting the original panels"
Yet the story says just that:
"A quest to get Barack Obama to shout his commitment to solar power from the roof tops - by re-installing vintage solar panels at the White House - ended in disappointment for environmental campaigners today.
"Bill McKibben, the founder of 350.org, had led a group of environmental activists to Washington in a bio-diesel van hoping to persuade Obama to re-install a set of solar panels originally put up by Jimmy Carter."
ferretmanSep 11, 2010
Huh--another "do as I say, not as I do" moment, I guess....
samurimasterSep 11, 2010
Doesn't the roof of the White House contain some security something or other (the details of which are classified to my knowledge) ?
Closed AccountSep 11, 2010
it's not even classified that there aren't any.
meanwhile I believe even the famous serge
(under the roof) with a stinger is just a myth.

hollywood is no valid reference k ?
let me guess, you think there are five
batteries protecting the pentagon eh ??
one for each side eh ? and does it hurt ?
rhawk187Sep 11, 2010
You'd think a president who supports the Sierra Club, who have stopped 120 power plants from being built over the past 5 years, and all the jobs they would have created, because he is supposedly in favor of renewable energy would at least put solar panels on the roof of his own home, or both of them for that matter.
gkiltzSep 12, 2010
They already had to re-enforce it when they last did a full remodel in the Trueman administration.
Up until then, the roof was not strong enough for the HVAC equipment that is there today.
€Washington, DC has in the past year, had more than 60 days in excess of 90 F. It does occasionally get below 0 F on the coldest winter nights. The White House is a stone building, so it's not like that HVAC stuff doesn't need to be there.
trick07Sep 12, 2010
The White House is above this silly non-sense. The White House is a symbol of this country the entire world knows and putting up silly little panels and pretending that the most powerful man in the world in the most powerful home in the world is running on solar is silly.
The White House and the Obama's are better than this. Unlike Bush and his reckless environmental terrorism, Obama has proven to be the greenest President to ever walk this universe. He doesn't have to power the White House with sunlight to prove he is green any more than he has to serve organic weeds to visiting dignitaries to prove he is not just your average Nascar watching beer drinking fat slob. The whole world already knows he is not one of them and is better than them.
This is why we need a bury button. Reported as neo-con birther spam.

Here we go again, another hypocrite leftist. Do as I say, not as I do. Barry must have taken a page form the Al Gore playbook.
thuktunSep 15, 2010
It's thirty-year-old tech and for all we know the Secret Service thinks it's a potential security hazard. Wish I could bury this lame story.
