"Some people have pointed out that the black guy seen leaving the room was a plant, which may actually be the case. He looks similar to the sound technician featured in the video, but the performance video is too far and of too poor quality to judge. Either way, that's some mighty fine trolling."
Forgetting the rest of this story, I always wonder what's in the head of “the token black guy” in these things.
I remember seeing an episode of the Sopranos where Tony was trying to break out into “the urban biz crowd,” and they (the biz crowd) were complete goobers.
It's like things haven't changed a bit since back in the day when rock was a “Dirty black thing” until white people started doing it. In fact, looking at these fools (the “rappers”), it's just gone downhill.

"Forgetting the rest of this story, I always wonder what's in the head of “the token black guy” in these things."
--I think it just goes to show that some people will roll in excrement for profit or spread their legs as wide as possible for a dollar. Ask our friends on the right--if someone can be duped into to buying or selling something, then it's worth doing.

It's so bad that I couldn't stop watching.
What's even more embarrassing is the authors sensitivity dance around the word gentlemen.
"With the "er" ending." Omg shock and awe. That word actually exists.
ThankmelaterFeb 12, 2012
All you knickers calm down and lets go eat some subway or some s**t because there is no need in fighting Mah knickas
wabbitseasonFeb 12, 2012
You don't get to say that word! Only us limeys are allowed to say that word!
icwydFeb 12, 2012
Oh Cracka Please!
solitaireroseFeb 12, 2012
Just cause I love my knickers, (Ruff Ryders)
I shed blood for my knickers. (Ryde or die)
Let a knicker holla, "Where my knickers?" (Get down or lay down)
All I wanna hear is, "Right here my knickers"
(We here knicker)

Setting aside that the song itself is pretty bizarre, and the whole karaoke thing was god-awful - The author of the article, and the poster here on Digg, were dumb.
Heck, the article even posts to the actual video, which shows them saying knickers, includes the mock outrage, and when you watch the video, it is obvious they are purposefully telling the sound guy that they wouldn't say that.
The one thing missing from the karaoke version, is that the sound guy actually gives them a thumbs up in the video, where the sound guy just gets up and leaves at the conference.
About the only thing to get upset about in that exchange is not doing it the same way.
Personally, I was more scarred for life by the karaoke thing itself, and them trying to get the audience members to wave their arms in the air at one point, 3/4ths of the people sitting there had no clue what to do.
johnnysoftwareFeb 12, 2012
Yeah, like singers take orders from sound technicians all over the world. Everyone knows that, sure.
Producers, composers, writers, managers -- just stage dressing and props.
The sound techs control it all.
/facepalm
dividebyoFeb 12, 2012
Seriously? Wow, you need to get a grip. This entire thing is a non story that some people are trying to make seem like a horrible right wing travesty.
Take a look at my posting history, I'm no friend of radical right wing silliness, but I also know when something is being really forced, trying to find an issue, when there is none - and this is one of those times.
I think you may need to do more than a facepalm to knock some sense into you on this one.
...and interestingly enough, in a way, the sound guy does control it all. Without them, the mics wouldn't work right, the volumes on different things would be all messed up, or not there at all. Most people at large gatherings wouldn't be able to hear what the speaker/singer/etc... is saying.
icwydFeb 11, 2012
Here is the link at the time in question (so you don't have to listen to the whole thing). Pretty obvious that they say "knickers".

substituting it for gentlemen, and admitting it in the lyrics. If this is what passes as "funny" for right wing Republicans, you can see why the party is dying. There is a reason the ONLY black man in the room walked out. Their intentions were obvious.
toasty8Feb 12, 2012
That black man was the sound guy, he was in on the joke the whole time...
Closed AccountFeb 12, 2012
Oh...Phew. If a black person was in on it, then no one should be offended.
itanshiFeb 13, 2012
paid plant and in on it not quite equal
markglFeb 14, 2012
You're trying really hard to make something out of nothing here.
mtownFeb 12, 2012
sounded like "blah people" to me.
bostic30Feb 12, 2012
May as well have said it because they danced around it.
JS76Feb 12, 2012
I'm generally ok with most Republicans, but everything I've seen at CPAC disgusts me. Do the Republicans really support these ideals? I know Ann Coulter is a joke and a reprehensible human being, and I generally do my best to ignore Sarah Palin, but this video really just takes it over the line.
I really hope the Republicans distance themselves from this. I get that they want to appeal to hardcore conservatives, but they're alienating moderates who're still trying to decide who they like in the next election (like me).
johnnysoftwareFeb 12, 2012
They're on the skids and want to go out with a bang, having fun at other people's expense.
markglFeb 14, 2012
What ideals are you referring to?
mitchellkFeb 11, 2012
Well, I looked at there video. One of them is wearing knickers and points at his pants when he says "knickers", so it looks like they are right. They didn't drop any "N" word at all.
kingnovaFeb 12, 2012
Read the lyrics. The substituted knickers for the gentlemen on purpose. There is a reason the one black man in the room walked out.

toasty8Feb 12, 2012
That black man was the sound guy, he was in on the joke. They didn't substitute it for the N word either, they said they were bringing back knickers. Like bringing back the fashion trend of the 1700s.
kingnovaFeb 12, 2012
Yeah but right now you’re high, ain’t you big hitter
But I’m back from the dead now bringing back all my knickers
Man you think I’d say that, come on what’s wrong with you
I’m just talking about my short pants that tuck into my shoe
Yeah, right. They weren't purposely doing a play on the word gentlemen.
toasty8Feb 12, 2012
Yeah bringing back knickers like bringing back a fashion trend. It doesn't even make sense if you substitute it for the N word.
shark72Feb 12, 2012
Can you please state for the record that you don't understand what the following lines mean:
"Man you think I’d say that, come on what’s wrong with you
I’m just talking about my short pants that tuck into my shoe"
If the entire joke they were trying to make just went over your head, that's fine -- no shame in that. But there's a difference between "sorry, I just don't get the joke" and "I got the joke, but people are just being too sensitive" and I'd like to understand where you stand.
toasty8Feb 12, 2012
Of course I get the joke. And, I don't even think the people who are mad about it are offended, I just think they are looking for an excuse to bash republicans. Just like when the republicans were being ridiculous and decided to say Obama's birth certificate is fake.
markglFeb 14, 2012
Do I have to post a link to a Dave Chapelle show where he uses the real word about once every 5 seconds?
xwhyFeb 11, 2012
Dropped the KN word, you mean.
particleman420Feb 12, 2012
sounds legit
neotechniFeb 12, 2012
Now now, lets be fair. All rappers are horrible.
crom99Feb 11, 2012
You mean the "KN" word, right?
eviltheturtleFeb 11, 2012
More gawker bulls**t.
majeredb8Feb 12, 2012
It was only a matter of time before some conservative stopped using innuendo and just dropped the N word, celebrated his use of the word as "being politically incorrect," then claimed to be a victim when somebody suggests that he's race baiting.
crashdvisFeb 11, 2012
They never said it. They clearly never said it. This headline is a complete lie. Isn't that supposed to be grounds for having your Digg account terminated?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
johnnysoftwareFeb 12, 2012
Actually, @crashdvis the headline is not a lie.
The word drop has a double meaning in this context.
It can mean they used the word or it can be they left it out. Gawker wrote the facts. You decide. Bum-bah!
It's especially apt they wrote the title so ambiguously, given that the sleazy "performers" also were playing cute word games as they danced around implied use of the N-word.
Two can play at that game, wise-ALECs, Gawker seems to be saying.
rogerevans1Feb 12, 2012
The article does:
"I can't understand the lyrics here, but I can say that everything about this is awful and terrible, and that's before they use the N word. And not just with the street "a" ending. With the "er" ending. In front of a black person. Who they mock as he walks out."
norman619Feb 11, 2012
They did not say gentlemen. When will people stop trying to make the Republicans into something they are not? It's pretty sickening. It also speaks to desperation.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Its grotesque watching the character assassinations these liberal college fools try and carry out.
norman619Feb 11, 2012
It's even worse when I see people here on digg who are WAY old enough to know better do this.
odkinFeb 11, 2012
The submitters' entire comment history is nothing but hate and lies.
kingnovaFeb 12, 2012
They said knickers KNOWINGLY substituting it for gentlemen. Read the lyrics. They even try to joke it off. "What? Us?"
Defending this s**t is the reason the Republican party is dying.
toasty8Feb 12, 2012
They didn't substitute it for the N word, they said they were bringing back knickers. Like bringing back the fashion trend of the 1700s.
particleman420Feb 12, 2012
you left out the "their best friend is a knicker...i mean sound guy" part of your answer
toasty8Feb 12, 2012
What are you even talking about? Is that an attempt at accusing me of being racist? Look, if they said anything that was racist, I would be totally against it, but they didn't and accusing someone of being racist when they clearly aren't just shows your childishness.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Go ahead. Claim they weren't trying to be racist. You are either willfully ignorant, or clueless. They KNEW what they were saying, and even tried to play it off as a "joke".

How DARE white rappers say the word gentlemen! Old BLACK people can use that word.
Hmmmm...there is a word that one race of a population can do but another can't? Isn't that the very definition of racism?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
skinturtleFeb 11, 2012
black people say it.

particleman420Feb 12, 2012
he said the sheriff is NEAR!
johnnysoftwareFeb 12, 2012
The title doesn't say they said it either.
It says they dropped the word.
Check the multiple definitions for the word "drop" in the dictionary sometime.
Evidently, racists are not the only ones who can play word games.
