I think John Cole about summed it up:
http://www.balloon-juice.com/2010/11/28/wikileaks-reaction/
Is it any surprise that we talk s**t about other countries?
jibbityjabNov 30, 2010
The only people I've heard say that Wikileaks are the bad guys... are the bad guys.

Bulls**t. It takes a really stupid and simple minded person to think "The government should have NO secrets"
jibbityjabNov 30, 2010
I think it takes a simple-minded person to believe that society requires giving a person or group of people exclusive power to create and coercively enforce rules which everyone must follow.
I stand by my original comment. I haven't heard anyone call wikileaks the bad guys that I consider a "good" guy. They could be "bad" guys because they are ignorant or paranoid or just plain evil but every criticism I've heard about the various wikileaks leaks (not about personalities) is extremely weak.

Oh come back to me when it's not just USA state secrets being divulged.

Wikileaks has other sources than USA documents?
Please point me to that!
jibbityjabNov 30, 2010
If you can use digg, you should be able to find out information on your own. Otherwise you're helpless. And that is exactly the type of citizen the states of the world want.
Even though there was enough info in the link I already provided to get you to this infomation with very little effort, I'll help you out.
Here: http://web.archive.org/web/20080402092346/www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Wikileaks
You're welcome.

As much as it pains me....and I'm trying not to vomit a lil bit, I'll have to side with quirk on this.
While WikiLeaks has outed a lot of other big items, of late Assange seems to be hell bent on pursuing an anti-American agenda. And the manner in which he's doing so is wreckless.
The fact that he published documents containing informant names, etc, and hiding behind the guise of "well we did our best" is irresponsible at best and gross negligence at worst.
I'm all for exposing atrocities and wrong-doings, but in a legal and responsible manner. Assange reminds me of Peter Pan, I'll commit one bad/illegal act because I'm going to do a good one with the results.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Please point to an example instead of repeating NYT's nonsense. Give me one example of someone being hurt or killed because of these leaks. You can't because there isn't one.
cosmicsurferDec 1, 2010
Sadly youy have fallen for the most outrageous and ridiculous charges against Wikileaks...That they are actually doing something that is hurting people...WIKILEAKS didn't do a f**king thing other than shine light on that which has been done by others. In fact, it didn't even do that. Since you have no clue as to the entire point of Wikileaks, why not learn about it.
They are not supportive of anything or anyone. They only print what is given to them. They are a document dissemination site, That is all. They reserve the right to release anything handed to them and they do...REGARDLESS of the fallout...REGARDLESS of the nation; REGARDLESS of the political push.
They are not the creator of the travesties of which they report. YOUR ELECTED GOVERNMENT and those who own them, and you, are the ones you should be holding accountable.
If you side with the Quirk on this then you really need to look at YOUR refusal to live in reality.
Her response is a typical look at the shiny, manipulated surface of things instead of looking at the people who manipulate her every thought.
rblancarteNov 29, 2010
When sections of our government and military are running amok like we see in WikiLeaks, I have ZERO problem with this being aired out. If you don't want illegal and/or quasi-legal actions to be brought to the public's attention, don't do the actions in the first place.
Oh and agree with philperspective's post too.

And how would you do that?
Invade Sweden? The servers may not even be physically in Sweden.
Assassinate Assange? That blood would flow across the President's desk...
Get him imprisoned based on false charges? Sweden don't have very long sentences for such, no life in Sweden.
Kidnap Assange and bring him to the US? More blood across the Presidents desk...
You can't touch Assange without having a face covered in rotten eggs...
ScienceTrumpsReligionNov 30, 2010
thats why you label wikileaks a terrorist organization
then you go after them based on the war on terror
its a perpetual bulls**t machine! tell people something is a terrorist and have the idiots blessing to go after it!
the few but loud have had their voices heard for far too long
Closed AccountNov 30, 2010
And what act of terrorism has WikiLeaks committed again? Oh that's right - NONE!
I guess you wouldn't mind if other countries labeled USA a terrorist nation either. If you think WikiLeaks is a terrorist organization, you surely must agree that the US is a terrorist country?
If not, your name must be "Bigoted Hypocrite"...

More then two words: We don't know exactly what is within the leaks.
You cannot say they are the bad or good guys at this point. It is to early to tell. I believe what their doing in good in nature, but could have consequences down the road.

langfordNov 30, 2010
If it were battle plans and projected troop placements, they they would of course be the bad guys. If it is just embarrassing knowledge that politicians would prefer the voting public not be aware of, then they are doing a service. You can take almost any kind of information, and a politician will typically claim that it can be exploited by an enemy. I don't know a lot of about whatever they are leaking, so whether it is actually one or the other I cannot say.
stubearNov 30, 2010
The problem with secret information is it can be cobbled together to create a larger picture. I don't personally trust Assange and WikiLeaks to properly vet information and redact the correct bits to ensure their motives are as honest as they claim and still protect national security. So far, none of the documents has been classified to cover up illegal acts (especially given the fact that there has been no court decision determining it to be).
ultramagnus0001Nov 30, 2010
It's a new age for governments and we'll hopefully will have a more honest system. The time for politicians lying will go away....hopefully. It's always good to have someone watching over their shoulders.
rattelerNov 30, 2010
Enough secrets and lies. The US government shouldn't be involved in anything it needs to keep from it's people. The only thing criminal here is that Julian Assange and Wikilink had to do this instead of one of our own.
bdbrNov 30, 2010
These are mostly cables about foreign diplomats. Very little of it is what the US government is doing. We just posted everyone ELSE's dirty laundry (and pissed off a lot of world leaders).
Rest assured, the s**t that is going on in the back rooms of the US government is still being kept secret from you.

bdbrNov 30, 2010
It's a shame that nobody reads articles and most just post their pre-judged opinions, because this article was surprisingly even-handed.
I've read several of these "leaks" and none were about "evil" things that countries are doing. Most of it wasn't even secret - it was already known or at least suspected, but not put in writing. Much of it was just opinions or perceptions, not policies. These are things told in confidence, and leaking them is more of a breach of trust than a breach of security.
FTA: "The leaked documents will destabilize our diplomatic efforts and hinder the State Department’s efforts to continue dialogue with our allies"
Many of you think we're better off not knowing what anyone is thinking, unless they're willing to make it public. We'll see how well things work when we're kept in the dark; it's unlikely they'll trust us now.
madtechnologistNov 30, 2010

wizzerkingNov 30, 2010
The only bad guys here are either us for voting for these frauds, or the politicians who have managed to perpetrate this fraud on the american public. Assange and the person who leaked these documents are HEROS,
readmymindNov 30, 2010
The reaction by the intelligence community to the data is almost as troubling as the content. If you don't want to be embarrased, don't say things that might embarrass you. I like Hillary, but the tough talk about going after Assange doesn't fly. Assange is merely a conduit. If there is guilt to be had, it is with the originator of the information. Going after the medium, even if justified from a legal standpoint, is only going to make it worse. At some point, culturally and internationally, the walls we've built between nations and countries, between dark skinned and white, between Muslim and Christian, have got to come down. There is far too much secrecy in the world .
blackmesa108Nov 30, 2010
wikileaks are heros!
nolagrlNov 30, 2010
I'm stunned that the goverment is *finally* getting around to limiting flash drives and CDs in secure areas and around classified.
That degree of willful ignorance is appalling. Ae these the same people who tried to censor a book by buying the hard copies? Which century are they in?
And does anyone else remember the Pentagon Papers?
Keep on releasing documents, Wikileaks. American exceptionalism has been strangled by those who decided government business was not the people's business. Cheney, etc..
skribbleNov 30, 2010
Maybe not the only bad guys in the picture, but to answer your question: "Yes, they are really bad guys."
BTW the hypocrisy around here is tremendous... half the people here saying Wikileaks is some sort of hero are the first ones to condemn Google & Facebook's "nothing online is private anyway" policies. Oh yea the secret s**t people have on Google and Facebook generally don't get people killed.
Diplomacy works in the background in the secret. If there are no secrets there is no effective diplomacy and no effective way to solve international problems short of war or a one world gov't. The leaking diplomatic memo's is in now way heroic, just stupid.
