@arschgaudi,
Actually things ARE going MUCH better under President Obama's guidance and it just burns your hide dosen't it.
It's ok, the GOP will get another chance to turn the country into a christo fascist corporatocracy in the next century.
That is, unless we can keep the public educated to your tricks and frankly, I intend to try.

He's managed to spend more than every other president combined.
We're now at a higher unemployment rate that he threatened we would be at if the stimulus was not passed.

@oru - Are you a Faux News viewer? Because you are so wrong.
(All numbers come from the Treasury Department, found here and here.)
1) Ronald Reagan (1981-1989): Inherited roughly $908 billion in debt, and took it up to $2.6 trillion. Change: +186%.
2) George H.W. Bush (1989-1993): Took Reagan’s $2.6 trillion up to $4.2 trillion. Change: +62%.
3) Bill Clinton (1993-2001): Took Bush’s $4.2 trillion up to $5.7 trillion. Change: +36%.
4) George W. Bush (2001-2009): Took Clinton’s $5.7 trillion up above $10.6 trillion. Change: +86%.
5) Barack Obama (2009-2010): So far, has taken Bush’s $10.6 trillion up to $13 trillion. Change: +23%.
This is no defense of the current levels of deficit spending, which are clearly unsustainable and need some serious trimming. But it’s a good reminder that all that talk about Republicans being more fiscally responsible than Democrats doesn’t quite hold up when confronted with the real numbers.

sackusmc27Jul 10, 2010
I agree with your decision not to comment on the racial "issue." If she includes minorities, she gets called a fake for only including them for political reasons. If she doesn't include them, she gets called a racist because that's not what America looks like.
Let it go, liberals. We all understand why you don't like her. No need to impute racist intent when you have no proof of it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"I have trouble believing it's a total coincidence."
There are NO minorities at her "events." They would have had to cull stock footage, and then they run the risk of being caught.
sackusmc27Jul 10, 2010
Again, homercles, is that Sarah Palin's fault? Does she actively preach racism or just advocate policies that would have a disproportional impact on minorities? And what do you expect when the opponent is the first black president, since 96% of African-Americans voted for him (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15297.html).
What's more of a coincidence: that none of the 4% of possible black Palin supporters were at these events, or that most of those 96% voted for Obama just because he is black?

To Sarah, "real America" = white America.

Speaking as somebody you'd probably classify as a liberal, I hope Sarah Palin has huge success within the Republican party. I'd like her to replace Michael Steele. In fact, I would love for her to be the GOP's nominee for President of the USA!
Fellow liberals: if you are "terrified" of Palin, then please bury this post. If, like me, you can't wait for the moment that you hear "Our nominee for President... Sarah Palin!" at the GOP convention, digg it up.

Yes, we are terrified. But not of what you think we are terrified of. We are not afraid of Sister Bendy-straws. We're afraid for the country and it's future that there are actually people that are too blind and/or stupid to see how ignorant and wrong she is and how dangerous having someone, man or woman, with her beliefs in power would be to the country.
If you are intelligent, you mark George W Bush's years in office as ranking high up there as 8 of the worst in this country's short history. If you are intelligent you look at those years and think they would be as nothing compared to the insanity of the military spending, unilateral, world completely hates us Conservative orgy of destruction that a Palin administration would bring.

Palin’s father Chuck Heath, says Palin was made uncomfortable by the high number of Asian Americans in Hawaii. He is quoted as describing the problem as “a minority type thing and it wasn’t glamorous, so she came home.”
Palin’s discomfort with the “minority thing” in Hawaii was due to anti-nonwhite bias. As if Palin couldn’t handle being so close to so many Asian people, as if black hair and mocha skin made her nauseous.
The problem with Sarah is “race shock”. Palin grew up in Alaska, where nearly 70% of the state is made up of Whites. She was undoubtedly a member of the racial majority, and probably thought of race issues as the kind of thing only ”outsiders” had to worry about.
You'd have to be either crazy or a racist to support Sarah. Or both.

ouzeJul 9, 2010
"Race Shock" is actually a real thing, in my experience.
I grew up in NYC, and moved to Iowa about 10 years ago. Every time I go home I fly into LGA, and one of the first things I think to myself is "wow, I forgot how MANY non-whites there are in not-Iowa. Look! Indians! I remember you guys!". Iowa is a good place but wow, what a homogeneous state.
I miss home a lot.

In my many years of living in Hawaii the ONLY people I've felt were rude were white mainlanders (BTW I'm a white mainlander too).

No one in the comments has mentioned the other woman.
The woman I mentioned is at a completely different part of the video. There's a woman at 45 seconds and THERE'S CLEARLY a black woman at 1:04.

As far as I'm concerned, there are plenty of reasons not to support Palin regardless of lack of minorities in her ads.
Even then, so what? What's worse leaving out minorities (presumably just an oversight) or packing your ad with every group you can think of in some cynical ploy to get votes from those groups? If there's evidence she intentionally kept out non-whites, I'll lead the charge against her on racism. However, I find it just as despicable to think that including a few minorities in your ad will get their votes. Just round up some supporters and film your ad. What don't you understand? Prove it. Don't just be a troll; you opened your f**king mouth, now back it up or STFU. Understand now, homeschool?
weierstrassJul 11, 2010
It's hard to take your accusation of trolling seriously, as several of your past comments consist your own inflammatory, unfunny, unprompted comments copied and pasted. However, maybe you don't deny that you are a troll, in which case I would like to point out that I have said nothing here that was untrue, and have offended only those who cling to a misconception. The reply button exists so that people can respond to specific comments. Your definition of trolling seems to include all posts that merely express disagreement. It may not have been nice, but it was something I would say to your face. I was merely responding to your post, which lacks perspective. I mean, I invite you to go ahead and post verifiable personal information so that you can prove that you are somehow smarter than Sarah Palin. But I'd rather you made an honest assessment of your place in the pecking order. Maybe you're a famous genius who spends hours on online forums, but I think we both know that you --and those Digging your comment-- are unexceptional.
As for the "wtf?" comment: I think you believe that your diction is jocular and colloquial, but the things you say are often strange and off-putting. You speak in cliches in many of your comments. I knew what you meant, but do I really have to explain why "Bring it on anytime, baby." is a weird thing to say? Can you imagine someone actually saying that? How would you rather I had responded?
For your sake, I hope that you are not actually 38 years old, as children and some teenagers are generally the only people who think that cursing is intimidating. Is that how you speak to people? No person with self-respect would be able to hear "you opened your f**king mouth, now back it up or STFU" without succumbing to fits of laughter.
I don't know why you look down on those who are homeschooled. The level of education is dependent upon the skill of the teacher. I knew someone who went from homeschooling to Princeton, and I remember a woman on Jeopardy a few years ago who did the same. I, however, was not homeschooled. In fact, I went to a magnet high school. I could be lying, but I'm not, not that it matters. It's irrelevant. If you think that you can win an argument by tossing out silly insults, then this battle is already won.
I wish we could raise the level of discourse, which is the whole point of my original post. Remember, you can call me names, but that doesn't make you any less of a fool.
I'm sure at this point that I'm yelling into the wind, but to all those who are burying me: What have I said that was so wrong? A guy posted a snide and overly simplistic critique of a public figure and I called him on it. I've been met with nothing but inappropriate insults, and I have met each grievance with a level of consideration and respect that I don't think I have not been given. I am merely speaking truth to the undeservedly arrogant.
nygenxerJul 11, 2010
"I wish we could raise the level of discourse, which is the whole point of my original post."
You expect me to believe that your "She's smarter than you" is a "pointed" statement designed to "raise the level of discourse"?
I don't need to insult you to make you look stupid, kid. You're doing just fine on your own.
*****
I've been using "home-schooled" as shorthand for stupid. I have nothing against home-schooling in honest practice (Abe Lincoln was famously home-schooled), but today it's too often just an excuse for people to teach their kids that the Earth is 6,000 years old and the Flintstones is a documentary. Most adults in the US read at the 6th grade level; not well enough to teach reading comprehension to someone else.
Interesting side note, a hundred years ago what was considered to be a 6th grade reading level would today be characterized as college level.
"Bring it on" is of course the challenge that Bush made to those who are trying to kill our soldiers. It's interesting to note he made this challenge from the safety and comfort of the White House and not downtown Baghdad or Kabul, and his own military record is...well...let's just say W's military record is unique in that it is (somehow) not fully documented. The other half ["Anytime, baby"] was the slogan of the F-14 Tomcats made by Grumman back when we had a half dozen military contractors and not just the one. I'm a NYer with a fondness for both airplanes and cats, but even without these bits of information the sentence still works.
Strange that you found a whole paragraph to write about this one sentence but nothing to support your comment that Sarah Palin is smarter than I am.
Sarah Palin's mental inabilities are well-documented - which is probably why you didn't offer any cogent argument (say, doesn't that lower the level of discourse?) But if you still want to argue with me about her stellar intellect - by "stellar" I mean "a tiny pinpoint of light only visible in total darkness" - then by all means do so.
Or STFU.

Why do politicians have to be loved by everyone? That's bulls**t. She made a commercial consisting mainly of footage of the type of people that give a s**t about her. You can never please everyone. You might as well find the largest segment of the population that believes in your values and make a go of it. I'd hate to be an Obama type politician that tries to make everyone happy and in the process doesn't make anyone happy. Pick a direction and get it done. mrwallyJul 10, 2010
What's wrong with being a "reverse racist"? Sounds to me like that means you want to celebrate racial differences, not hide or hate them. How can that be a bad thing?!
bewareofthecowJul 10, 2010
You're not 'celebrating racial differences' by using mandatory minorities in advertisements. You are just trying to give the illusion of racial diversity of your potential audience. It's superficial, insincere and irrelevant. I think it is a form of racism to lie to the world by trying to tell them how ethnically diverse your university is by having 6 different races in every one of your commercials. How does NOT having a black person in a video make you hate black people? I don't understand this at all.

Who cares? Seriously, there's not a racial minority in the video but are we really going to base our votes on the fact they couldn't get a black or asian actor on that day? It's one of the things I hate about the US, you have to show a minority or you're seen as racist. I find that kind of racist myself in a society which supposedly is equal, what the f**k does it matter if there's not a guy with black skin, white skin, yellow or blue skin in your video?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ruckfulesJul 9, 2010
Although the video does include at least one minority woman in it, there is a legitimate point to be made about Sarah Palin's apparent disconnection with and apathy towards the "others" of the society in which she lives. I think that this video merely highlights what has been a tacit trend in her attitude towards minorities - or, more accurately, her disinterest in tackling minority issues and minorities themselves in any meaningful way.
hipmanJul 9, 2010
The only thing it highlights is the stupidity of the al sharpton crowd.Stop screaming racism at every other corner.

@hipman
Are you seriously that dimwitted? Have you ever seen the reaction that the mention of Al Sharpton get's the majority of the time on digg? Sarah Palin may not be consciously racist in a cross-burning sort of way, but that doesn't matter, being belligerently clueless can have just as much of a negative impact on the lives of minorities. A political ad like this shows a lot of true colors and it's pretty evident that her vision of the fabric of America is far from being woven in reality.
itislateJul 10, 2010

"are we really going to base our votes on the fact they couldn't get a black or asian actor on that day?"
A lot of this footage appears to have been taken at speaking engagements and campaigning events. There were hundreds of people featured in the commercial! You don't find it mildly disconcerting that there was only one small clip of one black woman in the background in an entire commercial meant to represent the women of America? I'm the last person to bring race into issues where it's not merited and I even reluctantly defended the tea-partiers when Janeane Garofalo said they were all racist because I knew that simply to be untrue if not for purely statistical reasons. But in this case, Sara is basically handing this one over on a silver platter with one hand and a megaphone in the other.
amazingsteveJul 10, 2010

Probably not a scientific poll, but yes there is still a large number out there that think it. It's not based on his policies, just based on his historical association with socialist teachings (such as the Bill Ayers connection) and the fears ingrained in them by people like Glenn Beck.
I am sure many of them are stupid, but some of them are just the right-wing version of conspiracy theorists. Always thinking there is some underlying Manchurian candidate thing going on. I don't know if I call it stupidity or symptom of our secretive government and over-the-top Hollywood entertainment lifestyles.

rotundoJul 10, 2010
Plenty of smart people make it into politics. Try hanging out and keeping up with the staff of any congressperson.
The problem is that smart doesn't sell. Nuance doesn't fit into a soundbite. Running the government is incredibly difficult. Committees don't agree on things and nobody has absolute power. Voters don't want to hear that they have to pay more or get less. And we all get to sit back and point fingers at how they're all buffoons.

Her mama grizzly analogy is unintentionally brilliant. She states that mama grizzlies get aggressive when someone "want's to hurt their cubs". The truth is they get aggressive when anyone or anything comes anywhere near her cubs. Minorities remind Palin supporters of Obama.
