So Russia says that the people we caught weren't spies, but they're willing to trade someone they believe is a spy for one of them? Hmm...
I think they just want that hot chick.
biv2891Jul 7, 2010
yea but US said whoever Russians caught aren't spies either :) so it's pretty much equal exchange of regular US citizens for ordinary Russian citizens :) nothing more :)

There are nude pics out now too. Her ex-husband was nice enough to "leak" them. Just google "anna chapman nude".
eug127Jul 7, 2010
why are all these spies being caught and traded, where's Jason Bourne?!!
teacher2beJul 7, 2010
You don't catch Jason Bourne. He catches you.
eug127Jul 7, 2010
nice one haha, that's kinda what I meant - Jason Bourne doesn't get found or caught,
- same thing with the entire israel hit team being caught on camera and photographed!

You really don't think these governments are up to secret stuff? There is a reason for security clearances. As a country, you always want to have a leg up on the other.
protodonJul 7, 2010
you have NO idea! This is not a movie.Yes there are security clearances and classified information but did you ever read anything that was once classified? It's boring as s**t. Security clearances are a precaution. IN times of peace, excluding the "war on terror", they don't mean much. I can tell you with pretty good certainty that at this point in time, we have nothing in the way of technology or defense that other developed countries are dying to get their hands on. propethicJul 7, 2010
Personally I would love to see an explanation on exactly what these people were spying on, and how they're getting any sort of important information. Sounds more like these people are just middle men for other spies/detractors who actually leak the info.
gustomuchoJul 7, 2010
You put him on a plane first.
confuciussayJul 7, 2010
The CIA is more prominent with their use of native and local spies. The Russians try to use their own agents, which frankly can be harder to blend in.I'll spot a Vladmir anyday.. just break a Vodka bottle & watch how shocked he looks.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I'm happy with how the White House has handled this. They haven't tried to seize the moral high ground (there is none). They haven't used this case to gain political capital either at home or abroad. And they haven't let this damage improving relations with Russia.
If a spy swap is being offered, we would do well to take it and let that be the end of this affair.

hetmanJul 7, 2010
It seems like a bad idea for both parties. How can you determine how much information a spy might have. How would one determine if the trade is fair or not?
jerger23Jul 7, 2010
"Umm, so, Russia...which spy is it that you REALLY want to trade for the guy you have in custody. Oh that one? Hmmm, yeah, we need to talk to that guy a bit more."
Unless the Russians have Vizzini.
dkonigsbachJul 7, 2010
We've had this ring under surveillance for so long, we already know what they know. By now, what we don't know about what they know isn't worth knowing, and no reason to say "No" to the deal.
rygokeJul 7, 2010
wow Russia is still spying on U.S. after the Cold War ended their heyday

We have much closer allies spying on us too. See Israel.

Well, that might mean that we actually got ONE Russian spy in this tit-for-tat retaliation.
The "sleepers" were probably known for some time -- but this is probably about Russia pushing countries to NOT allow US planes to fly over for airstrikes in nations "like" Iran.
So that would be 9 innocent people -- but in this nation, we don't care about that anymore.
dbalaskiJul 8, 2010
its just a "show" to save face -- we spy on them, they spy on us.. next please.
gerbil20Jul 8, 2010
Since Israel is not involved, we can sweep it under the rug and pretend that nothing happened.
dalexandruzJul 8, 2010
Don't get it, why are they spying for Russia? There is nothing to look forward to in Russia. Russia is so freaking gloomy and depressing. These idiots could have a better life here than in Russia.
