Ms Powers is obsessed with race and inserts it where it was not otherwise a consideration. That's the purest form of racism. Nothing good has come from the illegitimate concept of race - time to ditch it. See also http://digg.com/news/science/Human_Genome_Project_Race_Does_Not_Exist

Boring. Off the shelf political commentary.
Haha - she writes, "Conservatives complain that if [those New Black Panther guys at the poll station] had been Ku Klux Klan members, liberals would be screaming."
Well, yea, we would, wouldn't we?
tastypasteAug 25, 2010
Gotta love all these condemnations about what liberals might hypothetically do in imaginary situations. What exactly are liberals guilty of here? Doing something they never did in a situation that never existed?
seanstuartAug 25, 2010
Both sides say that s**t all the time, "If this were <fill in blank>, the <fill in blank>s would be outraged!" It's usually common sense, but at the same time empty accusations.
drmangrumAug 25, 2010
No. They're guilty of hypocrisy and being spineless.
The true comparison would be if a couple of KKK members were outside a polling station and a republican AG dropped the charges when there was clearly a case, liberals would be screaming --- and rightly so. However, since the offenders are Black Panthers, the AG is black, and the president is black (half), the corruption slips on by because nobody wants to be labeled a racist.
Voter intimidation is serious no matter what political ideology you follow. For a republic to work, the people have to vote for their chosen representative. If the voters are scared of doing that, then the representatives aren't actually representing their constituents. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
spinningheadAug 25, 2010
"However, since the offenders are Black Panthers, the AG is black, and the president is black (half), the corruption slips on by because nobody wants to be labeled a racist."
Oh, so its a conspiracy.
Im a liberal and I believe, if a guy from the new black panther party (different org from the original) was threatening people outside a polling station, I would tell them to go f**k themselves.
drmangrumAug 25, 2010
I didn't say it was a conspiracy, simple that liberals are spineless hypocrites. They're scared of calling a bully a bully when that bully isn't white. In your twisted minds, if you call any non-white person out on their bulls**t, you're a racist.
It's stupid.
Disagree with Obama? RACIST!
Call for ethics inquiries on Charlie Rengel and Maxine Waters? RACIST!
Accuse the New Black Panthers of voter intimidation? RACIST!
Want immigrants to go through the legal process of immigration? RACIST!
How about you wake up for you liberal dream, stop drinking the kool-aid Gibbs is feeding you, and see reality for what it is.
arcangelgabrielAug 26, 2010
I always enjoy the "stop drinking the kool-aid " comments considering the "Kool Aid' refers to Jim Jones and his ultra conservative, Ultra Kookie, gotta-leave-the-country-cuz-they're-too-liberal-to-understand-us cult.
thuktunAug 27, 2010
...and that drinking Jim Jones' Kool Aid meant committing suicide. Perfectly awful analogy.
diggduggjoeAug 25, 2010
I wouldn't say it is a conspiracy, but they have an agenda which excuses the Black Panthers. If a white group tried the same crap, somebody is going to jail. I am not just imagining, I know the NAACP and ACLU would be right there to make that case.
It creates a double standard. If you are black (victim), you may break the law. I feel that voter disenfranchisement is wrong and it doesn't matter what color the voters or thugs are. It is just plain wrong.
The racism charges against many Republican, Tea Party or just Constitutionalists are unwarranted. The 912 group I keep in touch with have black and Hispanic members. There are bad apples in any group, including the Democrats. I am not going to call every black Democrat a racist because I have met a few who are. Those few hated white folks. It is wrong, but not representative of all blacks or all Democrats.
It seems silly that if I found a Guatemalan guy sitting on my couch, watching my TV while drinking my beer and I demand he leave that I am a racist. Demanding that people follow the rules isn't racism.
I have several friends here from Europe and they are fighting to stay here. They have expensive fees they pay the INS and to say those who can sneak into the US get a free pass is a slap in the face to those immigrants from countries which do not happen to share a border with us and come here LEGALLY.
tastypasteAug 25, 2010
@dramangrum
No one let that incident slide. One of those black panthers was a legitimate poll observer. The other was his friend. The police came and made the friend go home and take their weapons with him. The poll observer spent the rest of the day observing the polls. The situation was handled and diffused within hours by the local police. Yet that's not the story that Fox News wants to show. They want to pretend it's all some elaborate conspiracy involving those darned black folk and the Muslim Black Panther Illuminati.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

@tastypaste just bitch-slapped @dramangrum with the truth-stick.
Newsflash, there doesn't have to be a "but y'all did this too" for everything.
"Disagree with Obama? RACIST!"
Bulls**t @dramangrum. Classic scarecrow argument. Conservatives aren't labeled racist because they disagree with Obama. Some conservatives are labeled racist because of how they express their disagreement: you know, the witch doctor, the watermelon patch christmas card...you know.
"Call for ethics inquiries on Charlie Rengel and Maxine Waters? RACIST!"
Bulls**t @dramangrum. Um, except that those inquiries aren't being stalled/blocked but instead are moving ahead, yes even in a Democratic majority.
"Accuse the New Black Panthers of voter intimidation? RACIST!"
Bulls**t @dramangrum. see other
Want immigrants to go through the legal process of immigration? RACIST!
Bulls**t @dramangrum. Again with the scarecrow (you like that one don't you?). Not one mainstream liberal politician, pundit, or anyone else thinks that. What is racist is the fear-mongering and xenophobia displayed by some conservatives in the debate on what to do to solve the problem.
Notice the pattern on how often and easily the words "bulls**t" and @dramangrum go together.
What the GOP/TP is doing with the ground zero mosque so-called debate is blatantly anti-american. Shame on anybody who thinks this is a real issue and not just another fear-the-brown-folk GOP tactic to heat up the base.
No, I don't believe being conservative equates to being a racist. However, If you are a racist in America, you can pretty much guarantee that f**ker votes GOP/TP. The GOP/TP is to blame for capitalizing on race fear-mongering instead of quickly, loudly, and repeatedly repudiating it.

http://politics.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/sam-dealey/2008/9/10/barney-franks-fannie-and-freddie-muddle.html
In fact, here's a New York Times story from September 2003, clearly showing that the first substantive Fannie and Freddie reform from inside government came from the Bush administration. Spurred by worries that Fannie and Freddie were cooking their books and taking too many risks, Treasury Secretary John Snow proposed placing the companies under Treasury oversight with strict controls over risk and capital reserves. The NYT labeled the proposal "the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago"
"These two entities—Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."
As Frank mentions in his press release today, two years after it was first proposed, the House finally voted on a bill reforming the mortgage giants. Alas, the legislation was watered down to the point of being meaningless—that's why it passed the House with such wide margins (122 Democrats and 209 Republicans). But even then, and despite his high regard for bipartisanship now, Barney Frank wasn't among the yeas.

Do you really want all political opposition in this country to go away?? Is your side so amazingly incorruptible that they can handle absolute powers (single party rule) with out being absolutely corrupted. Hell they won't be able to hold on to single party rule for two years, when after 2008 they all acted like they would rule FOREVER.
Good governments need debate, good governments need to protect minority opinions NO MATTER WHAT. Good political debates have multiple sides (two is actually too few). This blind following of YOUR side on all issues because its YOUR side is ridiculous. I don't agree with either party we're begin FORCED to choose between on every issue, yet it seem that no matter what on every issue one party takes one side and the other party takes the other and then their followers MUST tow the party line. Except of course on issues where they both agree, which always seem to be issues where the people get screwed over (bank bailouts anyone?).
The Tea party was a legitimate attempt to change politics in this country. One party has fought it as if it were the plague (because it threatens their power). The other party has tried to usurp it at all costs to allow the f**ing Neocon bastards to stay in power.
And the government just keeps spending more and more of the funny money the fed is printing.......

rpatrick819Aug 25, 2010
This is a very true statement. Anybody who doesn't believe this should look at exit polls for the 2008 election.
For example, ~96% of blacks voted for Obama. Think about that for a second. Statistically a conservative, high-earning, Christian, registered republican black was much more likely to vote for Obama than McCain. In other words, skin color trumps everything else. I've never seen anything close to this percentage with any given metric before.
Of course, I must be a bigot for saying this.
sooner82Aug 25, 2010
now go check how many black people voted for Kerry in 2004. Black people tend to vote for democrats, its no secret.

Or maybe only 4% of blacks are conservative, high-earning, christian, pro-life, registered republicans? Stop making s**t up.
bookonAug 25, 2010
1.5% of Fox News viewership is black. If there is better proof of being a conservative than watching Fox News I don't know what it is. There simply are not THAT MANY conservative blacks.
rpatrick819Aug 25, 2010
sooner82:
Yes, blacks tend to start out at close to 80% democrat, which is still very, very high odd in and of itself. Why is that?
But assuming that has nothing to do with race (and I'm not saying it does, correlation != causation), that still means that 80% of the remaining 20% of self-proclaimed conservatives switched for this election only.
@rwhittak3
It's not making things up; it's math. This number is far, far beyond statistical significance, especially considering the target group (other than race) is the least likely to swap. This indicates racism, and a very high degree of it at that. Good luck finding this behavior in EIGHTY percent of any other demigraphic. You won't.

except that the immigration stuff is racism, and it is not insane to think so. would you like to know why? because we're all convinced that the problem is these Mexicans. what's wrong with a little persecution, you ask? after all, they're taking our jaerbs. the problem is, that they are getting jobs. and rather than look at the cause of their presence, we decide it's more convenient to blame it on the Mexicans. now read this one in bold, because this is important: if those Mexicans didn't have people employing them here we wouldn't have this problem. But it's just more convenient to persecute the poor than the actual root of the problem, the white people here that seek cheap labor over giving standard pay jobs to their fellow Americans. Think on that one for a second. not one single station that I have heard of has bothered to mention this revelation, and there is not even the slightest hint of seeking enforcement to keep employers from hiring illegal immigrants. Instead, we choose to racially profile Mexicans and let employers continue to hire their cheap labor completely free of scrutiny. The message is, It's more insidious to be trying to survive (the Mexicans) than it is to try to save a few bucks (us). This, my friend, is what racism is all about. They've just gotten slightly sneakier with how they lead people into it in the 21st century.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Mexicans aren't "taking" our jobs, they are being given our jobs because they are willing to work harder for less money. That's capitalism. When contrasted with the stereotypical lazy American worker, this work ethic is a breath of fresh air and I would love to have more of them in the country.
I just want them to pay taxes/etc instead of duping the system (along with those that hire them), and that is not racist. As far as I can tell, most of the anti-immigration crowd feels the same way.

This is getting really old. It dilutes the severity of actual incidents of racism.
Many who are accusing people of "racsim" for being opposed to an issue even if their reasons are totally unrelated to race are also ignoring violent incidents that happen purely because of race just because of who the victim and perpetrators are. An incident like "Beat Whitie Night" ( http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20100824/NEWS01/8240366/Police-say-it-s-very-possible-attacks-near-fairgrounds-had-racial-overtones ) will get the attention and concern of Kirsten Powers, the ACLU, etc. The more that these pundits cry wolf, the more they will lose a portion of the caring public who does not like to see unjustice done to any sector of the population, regardless of the color of their skin.

"When you lose on the playing field of intellectual debate, play the race card."

Lose on the playing field of intellectual debate? It’s become their opening move. I guess it simplifies things for them that way…

How come all I ever see from American people is indignation at all the messed up things that Republicans are doing yet in the American media all I see is the republicans doing messed up things?
I really do not understand why American politics tolerate such a vast amount of complete and utter morons. Here in Britain our government is kinda screwed up, but we would laugh half of the republican part out of office simply for being idiots.
Maybe you guys should protest more on the streets than on Digg. Just a thought..Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

now, just because someone is small-minded, bigoted and fearful of anyone different than themselves that doesn't necessarily mean that they are racist....Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Yeah Liberals, Dr. Laura is a racist because she used an offensive word when making a point about the double-standard of how that word is used...
...But when your Supreme Court Nominee says that being a hispanic woman, she would make better decisions than a white man, we'll just pretend nothing happened and call the people who are upset about that racists.
I don't think we can call it "playing the race card" anymore when the card is always on the table.
waaaahhhAug 25, 2010
why do republicans love the phrase "the race card" so much?
solitaireroseAug 25, 2010
Well, since "Dr." Laura was actually telling the caller she should expect the treatment she was getting because she chose to marry outside her own race before she started on the bigot's "Why can't I use the word...black comedians do?" whine.....
rudegarAug 25, 2010
good thing I'm not a racist, they are like a lower species ;)
malichaiAug 25, 2010
Yup, just like Sean Penn said he would after Bush was elected.

Its no surprise this has advanced so soon to the front page. Obama's only hope to stay in power much longer is to promote cultural and racial conflict. I'll leave the mechanisms for this to help the O'boy to your imaginations.
Scares me and I'm fearless...

maybe the Clinton Library should have been built in Waco, Texas???
how about a McVeigh School of Anarchy in Oklahoma City?
should somebody fly a Japanese flag ashore from the USS Arizona memorial??
how about building a mosque 600 feet from ground zero?
all of these things are perfectly legal, and people are free to do them here in America, but have a little sensitivity, and don't be an assh**e.
