So you mean to say that it's pretty much the same from both major parties? I'm assuming that since everyone else jokes about it they also know about this?
Good thing we're not a two party system! I mean, we can just elect someone from a third party that makes sense and would actually try to change things.
Oh wait, the same people that bitch that "both parties" suck are the same ones that refuse to vote for someone from outside the two major parties because it would be a "wasted vote."
If everyone who is displeased with how their party runs s**t would find a third party who matches their views voted for them we'd have some interesting elections.

To be fair, I would say that applies more to Obama specifically than to Democrats in general. I mean, neither Al Gore nor John Kerry really played up the hype machine too heavily, and the both suffered for it. People were just like, "What? You're not pump us up with false promises you can't possibly expect to keep? Why should we give a s**t about you?"

Yes, because Obama is just like Bush /s
This is not an either/or evaluation. Just because you did not get 100% of what you wanted does not mean you got 100% of what you did not want. I've had some disappointments with Obama, but he and the Democrats are nothing like the Republicans. A McCain/Palin presidency would have been a worse disaster then the oil spill to the US. Trivialize the distinction at your own peril.
dukeonkledJul 13, 2010
Sadly, lo****ermelon, that is also the same reason the two parties are so large in the first place. The passive ones reside in the big 2, not the third parties. Instead on not voting at all, as you say, most of them "settle" on candidates that they are sure wont do them right but "are a step in the right direction" Not a lot of people who join third parties refuse to vote. They are usually the most adamant and politically active. A step in the right direction would be voting what you believe, as you say, never settling.
Closed AccountJul 12, 2010
That could really be expanded to the Republican strategy in general. All they do is find a few hot-button talking points to get voters riled up. They don't actually have to do anything about those issues once they've gotten people foaming at the mouth and into the voting booths. You'd think that strategy would only work once, and that people would remember how f**king useless the Republicans are, but here's the thing: each new voting cycle, they do it all over again. Voters don't pay attention to what's going on because they're voting based on emotion, not logic.

devnulldoodJul 13, 2010
Whats your point? I'm not disagreeing with the statement. I'm simply pointing out that Obama got elected because of the same strategy. He spoke against Bush and his administration, brought up the "Hot Topics". Everybody was already sick of Bush and his BS. Obama didn't even give any information about his agenda, he just said "Change".
You cant say that it was his experience that got him elected because he has none. Even Clinton said to Hillary "This guy would be serving our coffee in any other time."

No where near half the population is falling for this. The woman has about half the Republican party (at best). So maybe 20% of the US population. The sad part is that she could possibly win the Republican nomination because some many moderates left the party. But she would have zero chance in the general election where the Independents (a lot of who are Republicans who left the party BECAUSE of Palin) rule.

And even at that he fed her numbers and things that would need to be dealt with-- she couldn't even come up with a options of "whatever it takes" would be. I believe that the neocon faithful, those "news" personalities like Bill O'Rielley, Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer et al have decided that Mrs. Palin is going to jump the shark. They fear that her newfound zeal for cutting government spending is in danger of becoming more libertarian and thereby will encompass the sacred military budget.
She has been their darling, but by insinuating that the war in Afghanistan might have to be wrapped up, she is now going to be fed to the dogs.
KingFranklinJul 12, 2010
Hahaha Sarah Palin has less intention of shaking things up in Washington than Barack Obama. She's further from libertarianism than George Bush. She just says whatever it takes to keep herself in the media.
caferrellJul 12, 2010
Don't get me wrong oh regal one.
I do not imply any intelligence on the part of Caribou Barbie, but rather that her cunning has led her to believe that the Tea Party is trending away from support of endless war and therefore her comments are following the trend.
But that is seen by the neocons as treason and Bill O´Rielly was training Mrs. Palin. I am certain that, off-camera, he made his point that the military budget must never, ever be challenged very clear to the ex-beauty contestant.
But although she is not intelligent, she is crafty. If she sees more future with the Tea Party than with the neocons, she will just avoid BillO and the rest of the death-worshippers.
KingFranklinJul 12, 2010

peppermintpigJul 12, 2010
There are valid reasons not to support the tea party as it lacks any defining and constant principles. But that doesn't also mean it never had individuals in consistent opposition to fiscal irresponsibility. Most political parties and politicians fall into the trap of being unreliably inconsistent anyhow, so I fail to see why so much is made by trying to stereotype a group then claim it's full of hypocrites when individuals naturally vary in their positions, AND you can readily cite individual politicians in power who daily reveal their hypocrisy by following their track record and campaign promises.

1) Some of you people appear to be deluded about the origins of the "tea party". They received media attention AND funding by the same neocons that put George W. Bush into power. Tea baggers are the media creation of the right wing!
2) The tea baggers were created to astroturf support for Republican candidates. They are like Democrat Liberals. They make noises about "doing the right thing", but then they fall into Democratic party line "when it matters".
3) The "problem" with the tea baggers and the Right is that the tea baggers are as much in the Republican camp as Ben Nelson is with the Democrats. And without a centralized control to "weed out" undesirable representation, the only reasonable alternative to mock them out of existence by showing people their intellect.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Disclaimer: I do not support Sarah Palin.
BillO is an expert at trapping people into a narrow focused answer to explain a much larger problem. In this case he obviously has it out for Palin and wants to trap her into saying a dumb answer.
You have 12 million people that are here illegally what do you do with them?
Her answer is to deport them but being trapped in that answer she knows better and has learned to deflect the question. She never gave a full answer or the answer that BillO was looking to trap her with. Deportation is the only possible answer unless you support an amnesty program of some sort. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
unclefireJul 12, 2010
Those are the only two options-- some form of legalization, deport them or a combination of both.
Deporting illegal aliens is going to continue. We can't just stop any form of enforcement.
Going after 10-20MM illegal aliens and deport them all is not going to work.
gerz1219Jul 12, 2010
O'Reilly normally is an expert at trapping guests, but his approach here was so obvious and elementary that it felt like a father teaching his daughter chess for the first time. He repeated his strawman argument and the hard numbers multiple times so that Palin would have ample time to construct an argument -- any argument -- and seem as though she had a coherent solution to the issue despite obviously not knowing any facts prior to the taping. O'Reilly's visible frustration had little to do with brutalizing an ideological opponent, and everything to do with Palin's inability to say something sensible. In fact, she agreed with the self-contradictory strawman arguments more than once, when she was obviously being prodded to dismiss them as too extremist so she could lay out a more moderate viewpoint.
I used to think she was book-dumb and street-smart, but Palin's inability to read simple verbal and non-verbal cues here has me doubting that assessment.
mxm111Jul 12, 2010
There is another option - create such conditions that illegal immigrants start to leave country by themselves. One thing to do it is to establish system and checks of work authorization. And I mean actually go and check if all the employed workers have proper authorization. If not, then fine the business or even individual who hired them. While I myself do not support it, I think this is the most practical way for those who does not want to have legal path for illegal immigrants.
gerz1219Jul 12, 2010
Well there are a lot of problems with a policy like that. For one thing, there is a powerful pro-business lobby -- generally affiliated with the large argobusiness industry that relies heavily on illegal labor -- that will seek to eliminate or water down any employer sanctions. Aside from that, the sanctions would only matter if enforcement were stepped up to an invasive level, and large and small business owners alike really wouldn't care for that. Even if the sanctions were sufficiently high as to make the hiring of illegals unprofitable in the long run, there'd still be the problem of corruption and selective enforcement; there would be thousands of new inspection agents (all of them armed with guns and fluent in both English and Spanish) and some of them would undoubtedly take kickbacks to give a farm or factory a clean bill of health. It's kind of hard to staff an agency with 10,000 Elliot Nesses and no bad apples. Over the long run the dirty inspection agents would effectively form their own criminal syndicate, deciding who gets to stay in business, who gets shut down, and who gets killed. And then there's the matter of sheer scale; on a practical level, how do you root out 12 million illegal immigrants and deport them?
No easy solutions to this problem, which is why I get so infuriated when idiots like Palin dismiss the most complex policy dilemma in modern American history with a simple "Build a fence and deport them" sneer.
goptrollJul 12, 2010

I'm an independent and found the article on politicususa to be very biased and believe it unfairly defames Palin (and I say that as someone who does not support her).
If you watch O'Reilly's show often you will see that he consistently tries to get the people he interviews to answer questions in full and not beat around the bush. What politicususa interpreted as palin being uninformed and getting "humiliated" is in fact the same thing O'Reilly does on almost ALL his interviews - which is grill for specifics. Palin's answer of “whatever it takes" was not stupidity or cluelessness on her part, but rather a smart and intentionally vague response that appeals to the large block of immigration reform people without pissing anyone off by getting down to the specifics of how you are going to deal with all the problems that are going to have to be dealt with - such as what to do with the millions living/working here already. SHE WAS PLAYING POLITICS. Watch other interviews by O'Reilly or any hardball interviewer... politicians beat around the bush INTENTIONALLY because they don't want to alienate potential voters. For example: probably almost everyone in America would agree that immigration reform and controlling our borders is important and necessary, however, NOT everyone will agree on how to do that or what to do with all the illegals already here. So “whatever it takes" appeals to the probably 85+% of Americans who believe something needs to be done without losing large portions of those potential voters by getting too specific. O'Reilly has seen that a thousand times and pushed for more info (like he always does) and was able to get a little bit more out of her, but again, it's all about votes.
If you believe that Palin is an idiot and that her vague responses in that interview were because she had no clue about anything, then fine. However, keep in mind that your opinion in that way is a biased one and that it is just as much - if not more - plausible that she was playing politics and trying to appeal to voters. That being the case, I think this article's implied stupidity and cluelessness on her part is unprovable and everyone should recognize this article as biased (because it is) and take the defamatory remarks against Palin in stride with the article bias in mind.
Again, I would not vote for Palin if she ran for president, but I hate it when people take biased articles at face value. So be informed. :)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The only reason he's trashing her is because he knows she's so stupid she could never beat Obama in an election. It's not that O'Reilly suddenly gives a s**t. The liberal "gotcha" media elite has done it again, this time infiltrating the safe confines of Fox News, where I used to be treated with respect until this rabble-rouser O'Reilly starting praying at the altar of Barack Hussein Obama.
Look, in order to clear the air, these are my feelings about immigration:
- We must secure our borders by locking up the most valuable books in this very important national chain (like The Constitution, The Bible, The Declaration of Interdependence, and others).
- We must kick out anyone who looks like they might be related to someone who might have known someone who came to this country illegally.
- We must make this an officially English-speaking, Christian nation, to prevent Spaniards, atheists, and Muslims from thinking they'd have an easy time living under Real American rules.
- We must get rid of those pesky death panels that Barack Obama has set up as part of "health care reform."

s73v3rJul 12, 2010
Yeah, s**thole state is going too far. I will say its probably a less complex state to govern, for lack of a better term, than some of the more populous states, like NY, CA, TX.
badgerbusJul 12, 2010
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with Alaska, but as far as a staging ground for a presidential candidate it's less than ideal.
The entire state has a population that is much less than most major cities. Take San Francisco, it has over 300,000 more people in it than Alaska does, has a more diverse population in therms of ethnicity, income levels, immigration status (not just legal vs illegal, but legal, illegal, student visa, temp. work visa, perm resident aliens...).
With this in mind, the mayor of San Francisco has had much more real work experience than she has, despite the fact that she's been a governor.

badgerbusJul 12, 2010
Stupid people listen to her because she tells the what they want to hear, in an interesting way, though I'm sure not on purpose.
Have you ever tried to explain something complicated to a stupid person, they get mad at you because you aren't explaining it so they can understand it, but it's inherently complicated, so it's not your fault at all.
That's Sarah Palin, she seems to think that the entire worlds of economics and politics should be easy to explain, and the only reason anyone makes anything complicated is to try to make people like her feel stupid.
She takes that idea to the stupid masses and gives s**tty explanations that make no sense to people who don't know any better, then they assume she's super-awesome because she's finally leveling with them about politics instead of trying to make it sound complicated.
The problem comes in because these issues are complicated. It's all well and good to say "build a wall on our border" but this isn't the same as putting up a new fence in the backyard. You don't just bop down to Home Depot ask for assistance building a wall that can't be tunneled under, gone over, or blasted through.
toxicshokJul 12, 2010
and she seems to turn Ronald Reagan into this mythological figure who wanted exactly what they want and hated exactly what their enemies want. Forget that Reagan signed several important arms control treaties, or that he gave amnesty to illegal immigrants, no only a communist would suggest doing those things, not our hero Reagan.

badgerbusJul 12, 2010
It's not just her who has turned him into a mythical figure; the entire right wing is remembering his as far more than a normal man.
The funny thing is that, when it comes to anything positive he may have done the man was large and in charge, running the show, for anything negative he all of a sudden becomes a "hands off president" who just lets people do their jobs and doesn't know anything about trading weapons for hostages in Iran.

She's not a danger right now. She won't be elected for anything. Fewer people take her seriously than ever before. And her fundraising ability is a nuisance but it's nothing compared to the vast corporate sums that are currently being collected for use in 2010 GOP campaigns (a result of the recent SCOTUS ruling).
So as long as that's the case, I'd rather not forget about her. She's the quintessential example of a horrible trend in American politics. A "Joe the Plumber"-style candidate; an open anti-intellectual who coasts purely on personal charisma and the promise that her "common sense" will solve all the country's problems. And a crazy fundamentalist to boot.
We need her to keep running around looking stupid, being eviscerated on talk shows. Because those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it, and she is the best lesson we've ever had on the subject.
robdiggityJul 12, 2010
I agree with the detail of what you say, but disagree thematically. I say as long as puppet shows like this continue we all are deprived of the chance to really learn if there are any quality people out there. Yes I get that junk food sells, but if we don't start getting healthy at some point...
mcnerdJul 12, 2010
Personally I think the 24-hour news cycle ensures that we'll hear everything that the news agencies can possibly be bothered to report. If we don't hear about a hot new candidate then it's not because it was obscured by wall-to-wall Palin coverage: it's because they don't think we're interested, and they probably wouldn't have bothered reporting it even on a slow news day. From this perspective, stories like this are perhaps a symptom rather than the disease.
Bill O'Reilly's time in particular is limited enough that this doesn't really hold, but the more he wastes his time the better off we'll all be.
Anyway I think we can agree to disagree; I certainly understand where you're coming from.

lancertJul 12, 2010
It didn't look too bad because O'Reilly held back. Pure and simple. He even lobbed her the answers (he wanted to hear) in the questions.
She's making far too much money and getting far too much media exposure for her to run for president. It's much easier to arm chair quarterback someone else's attempt to clean up from the Bush era...
Closed AccountJul 12, 2010
Even if she ran, I don't see her getting past any kind of primary. She has her hardcore supporters, but the average republican doesn't really care for her.
Lets say that she does get the republican endorsement, she already f**ked herself over by resigning half way through her term as governor. She doesn't have the ability to be in charge of a single state for a full term, how could she be in charge of an entire country for one?

Do you think MSNBC doesn't? More likely, you just had a knee-jerk reaction to criticize FOX without stopping to think for a minute about whether they were behaving differently than everyone else - kinda like the "FAUXNews Buried" mentality.

No intelligent conservatives actually support Palin. The GOP is a party, and just because we're ideologically conservative does not automatically make us affiliated with the party in any way. You know, O'Reilly is conservative in so many ways, but what separates him from the over dramatic republicans and even these Tea Partiers is that he isn't conservative just to make money or to make headlines. He isn't so separated from the world that he can modify his views. He knows he isn't there to put Palin in office, he is there for his viewers. He gives them what they need to hear.
I don't agree with O'Reilly on everything, but he is one commentator I can respect.

He doesn't deserve respect. Unless, of course, you're the kind of person who says inflammatory s**t and you also want to get paid for it.
That being said, I respect Billy for getting paid to yell at people on TV.

I can't believe that this sort of thing works on so many people. But then again it did work for the Republicans during the healthcare debate. Be so obstructionist, move the level of discourse so far to the right to make the healthcare plan LOOK like a radical liberal idea while conveniently ignoring the fact that it ended up being almost exactly what the Republican "alternative" plan was during the Clinton era.
Same thing here. O'Reilly hasn't gotten anymore sane. It's just now he's surrounded by even crazier people (Beck and Palin), making him look more moderate, more reasonable. If you don't believe me then go watch some of his shows, you'll realize he hasn't changed at all.

I am confident that he's more articulate and intellectually inclined than most of the asstards who roam Digg and basically downvote and upvote just to fit in with the rest of the average, adolescent internet sentiment.
Just because he disagrees with you and needs better interpersonal skills does not make him a "moron." You should be able to TELL from the way he speaks and writes that he's a very capable and intelligent person. And if you can't, you're probably a "moron" yourself.

I seriously hate this woman. The fact that she is even taken seriously by such a large group of people is a strong testament to our broken education system.
Thinking Palin is a good candidate for politics is the easiest way to tell me that you are a complete idiot.

Seriously. Half my relatives are southern conservatives. We joke around with each other about crazy the others political views are. Bush could not fail in their eyes. But even to them, Palin is bats**t crazy and completely void of thought.
skybarkJul 13, 2010
I'm a moderate conservative and I absolutely hate her guts. Why wont she go away?
moogleJul 13, 2010
Ah, so they were the few remaining conservatives who were handing Bush approval ratings at the end of his term... when he was virtually rejected by both the conservatives and the liberals.
stackeredJul 13, 2010
Well think of Palin as an idiot filter... she'll just suck up the moron votes so that they don't count at all and nobody gets hurt.
eminn3mJul 13, 2010
True, unless the country gets so polarized that the more intelligent republicans think she's better than giving Obama a second term.

People bitch about O'Reilly all the time, but I honestly think he's one of the few completely honest people in the world - like him or hate him, he tells you what he really thinks and doesn't give a f**k. He doesn't pander to any one person or group.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Please.
He was/is biased. Very biased.
It wasn't until the likes of Beck and Limbaugh seeing a demographic to make money off of that they started to surpass O'Reilly.
In comparison to those fools and Palin, he seems rather sane and logical.
But again, IN COMPARISON to those fools.
In reality, he's as biased as every other Fox News talking head.
Closed AccountJul 13, 2010
I still think he is largely just set in his ways. Every now and then he'll do something I have absolutely have to respect (like paying the legal fees when the westboro baptists sued a soldier's father). But for the most part I think he is a hack that has the conservative, 60+ year old demographic on lock because he spouts 1950's style social-non-progress.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

cuervoman914Jul 12, 2010
but sarah still is dumb, so f**king dumb
faskippyJul 12, 2010
She gave answers, she said exactly what she thought should be done. I don't see why, just because you don't like her, you have to twist it and say she didn't. Did you hear "troops to border", "register", "deport", "no free pass", etc? Did you hear her say we should do what Reagan tried to do, but correctly? I did. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
avooJul 12, 2010
O'Reilly was giving her most of the answers! Every question was constructed as "Will you do *this*?" "Yes, exactly." She just kept confirming whatever O'Reilly said.
"Whatever it takes" "Yup," "Do we make them register? Yes we do!" The only thing she said that O'Reilly hadn't already said was that we should make the issue simple, instead of as Bill was rightly saying, that it was complicated.
14justiceJul 12, 2010
But it's not complicated, AVoo. If they're illegal, don't let them in; if they -are- in, send them back.
Just because you're saying it's complicated doesn't make it complicated.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

deporting 13 million people isnt simple
faskippyJul 12, 2010
I disagree.
unclefireJul 12, 2010
He was feeding her answers and she still f'd it up.
By agreeing to "making them register" she basically agreed to an amnesty program.
mikeoxbiggJul 12, 2010
Exactly! I can very much respect an intelligent, well-thought out argument conservative/republican argument but this is a bumbling child! She's great at spouting off "take back America! Reward citizens" catch-phrases that speak to the trailer park demographic but those are NOT answers.
She was content to repeat those things until her five-minutes ran out but found herself taken aback by being asked LEGITIMATE logistical questions. From that point on she just stutters and grabs on to ANYTHING the man says. "Register them?....Yes, yes Bill, exactly, we're gonna register them!"
I've seen 8th grader BS better oral presentations in my days.
If you delude yourself in thinking that this was in any way a sustainable political platform, I truly question your cognitive functions.
faskippyJul 12, 2010
Oh, I know she's wanting to avoid saying it out loud, like the plague. Each and every single politician does, because they want to sound just close enough to their party's guideline to keep those votes, and not too extreme so that any on the sidelines might get thrown their way. But, she did bring up Reagan's attempt, so that tells you something. Honestly, she (and any politician) is only as good as the best idea her advisors have. Well, maybe not the best idea, but the best one they're willing to put before the public. She may be transparently pawn piece sometimes, but the other end of the spectrum looks much worse to me. Hell, we're living the nightmare that came from doing nothing.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

How disappointing. I hate both of those people, but nothing said in that video could be seen by the people watching it on Fox News as "humiliation". Anyone who has seen Sarah Palin in any interview or live setting knows that she stumbles around for words like this. She's a moron regardless of where. But many conservatives still somehow consider her competent, so this was just more of the same, with her saying what they want to hear, and they'll continue to eat that s**t up.
The scary part is that she really does have a chance of winning. Especially when a democrat has already been in office, because Americans are fairly dim-witted, and when they see problems, they immediately associate them with the current president/party, even if it's not their fault, or the fault of the previous president/party. But then they'll elect another bunch of clowns like that in there anyway who caused all the problems to begin with, and give them 4-8 years to make a bigger mess, then change parties around again come following election time. A shame there's no way to test people for political competence before letting them vote.
msles59130Jul 12, 2010
Actually, something like 70% of Americans associate the problems we are having with the republicans still, based on all recent polling.
I don't think she can win the presidency, although maybe the rep. nomination is not out of bounds. A LOT of republicans really hate her, and the independents thinks she is a twit and the Dems are terrified she will cause WWIII within 21 days with her ignorance.
pkraus109Jul 13, 2010
Rep here she is irrelevant her only purpose (sad that she has one) is to appeal to the shallow end of the republican gene pool. I hate that she is even given a mic let alone that we still talk about her here. Come 2012 she will not get the nomination. She cost us the election (rightly so i wouldn't want her in line to take over if mccain had died) we won't let her do it again.
taketheleapJul 12, 2010
1. Tell people they have problems (some very real, some imagined/created).
2. Tell them you have "the solution".
3. Promise them jobs, money, wealth and "their nation back".
4. Provide very little specifics as possible.
5. Get elected.
It worked for the National Socialist party, so hey, why shouldn't Palin give it a shot? (No, I'm not calling her a Nazi, it's simply that her presumed strategy has an eerie resemblance to 1932.)

elbowgeekJul 12, 2010
This is the strategy of just about every political campaign ever. Typically towards the end of the previous incumbent's term the voters have come to realize just how bad that incumbent has been. Unfortunately the mass of men have very short memories and listen to any schmuck who gets up on a podium and makes noise about how they will be different and make their lives better.
Wash, rinse, repeat, groundhog day, etc.
jceezJul 12, 2010
6. Quit 1/2 through your term.
fleetlordatvarJul 12, 2010
You know what the difference is? The Nazis ramped up the German economy, eliminated unemployment, and restored their nation's status as a world power. Granted, they also incited race hatred and then ran the country into the ground. But if you gave everything over to the GOP, they'd skip the whole "repair economy/solve unemployment/rejuvenate America" part and go straight to the "racism/press-national-self-destruct-button" part.
So what I'm saying is Sarah Palin is worse than the Nazis because she's also a f**king retard.
graphictruthJul 13, 2010
Yep. It's unfair to Hitler to make the comparison.
