We're in times that are so dynamic from the standpoint of the economy, natural disasters, and terrorism that the government could justify a sudden leap in control of the populace and most particularly the media, which is now focused on the internet.

Power corrupts and is always prone to some degree of abuse, sometimes a great deal of abuse. Funny how just the threat of violence is enough for many to allow Government to legislate laws that are clearly a two edged sword.
Yet the vast majority of us go about our daily routines with out any mishap. As for those relatively few who experience some form of violence the laws and measures and agencies, and increased "security" and the Billions spent do absolutely nothing to protect them.
Hmmmm.
