Well that was stupid.

Am I the only one who fondly remembers a time when midterm primaries were pretty much ignored? I love politics but start talking to me about the elections in October
dauntless1Aug 12, 2010
Many people are finally starting to wake up and utilize their political voice.
Of course, most of them have no goddamn clue what they're talking about, but that's another issue entirely.

The Minnesota one was a close one on the D side of the ticket. Dayton bought this election out from under the Democratic endorsed candidate. FTC I would have rather had your person win that primary, at least she actually did things herself instead of siphoning off of a tax protected trust fund while running on one issue 'make the rich pay their fair share of taxes'. Dayton of course is already rich, and his funds are protected from taxes. So anyone who works hard to become 'rich' in MN will find the slope that much steeper if Dayton gets in.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Thank God Dayton won!
There is nothing wrong with working hard to become rich, nor is it wrong to be born rich like Dayton. What's wrong is when the rich are excluded from making sacrifices during times of war (Iraq/Afghanistan) and when states budgets are deep in debt because of tax-cuts.

Having personally met Kelliher in a DFL fundraising event, and having the chance to talk to her, and watching how she totally backed down as leader in the house against Pawlenty in the budget crisis even with the Supreme Court (MN) handing the DFL a huge victory, I knew she was not the person I wanted to run the state.
Dayton at least was a decent Senator, and having experience in Washington as a 1 term Senator (not a lifer) will be a plus for him when representing the state's concerns to Washington.

I live in Arkansas and I just want to plead with the rest of the country to not ever vote for anyone from Arkansas. Thanks.
iptunnellAug 12, 2010
I live here too, and I would agree with that assuming you are speaking about Blanche Lincoln. She's a two faced whack job!

The big loser is the American voter. Yet another crop of garbage candidates to hold your nose and vote for.
jtensAug 12, 2010
Wait, so the National Republican Senatorial Committee was a loser but the Republican Establishment was a winner? What?
akchrsAug 12, 2010
Tea Party was the winner, Sarah Palin was the loser. 1 + 1 = 3. It's liberal logic.
dauntless1Aug 12, 2010
The same logic the TEA parties use when they say they're against both parties and then vote 100% republican.

#3 scares me.

Why is this a f**king slideshow?
NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE A MULTIMEDIA EXPERIENCE!

FTA: Norton's defeat, along with similar losses seen by the NRSC in primary Senate races, seem to reduce the party's chances of reclaiming currently blue seats in the chamber later this year.
In other words, Tea Party candidates winning Republican primaries most likely equates to Democratic and/or Independent wins in the general election because Tea Party candidates do not appeal to moderates.
dauntless1Aug 12, 2010
"because Tea Party candidates do not appeal to moderates."
Exactly. Bats**t crazy sells reality TV. That's it.
smacksawAug 12, 2010
All of the insta-pundits say that since Democrats are disappointed, turnout will be low for them.
Doesn't disappointment affect Republicans as well? Normal people, moderates, average voters - are they really going to vote for a tea party candidate because there's an (R) next to the person's name?
Moderate voters are not that stupid and they don't just vote straight party tickets.
Maybe this comes down to whichever party has less apathy.
stavrogin2Aug 13, 2010
Democrats are actually getting fired up, mostly thanks to the over the top teabaggers and fox news. I never vote in midterms, but I absolutely cannot wait until November.

Minnesota had a close call with the Republican race for Attorney General.
There was a super-nutjob-right-wing-freak who got herself on the primary ballot for the, I think, tenth time in 40 years, named Sharon Anderson. She actually won the primary in 1994, but got demolished in the general. About this lady... She makes Michele Bachmann look like Norway. She is about as far right as you could possibly get, even outside of the extremes. She also has quite a few convictions (though none that disqualify her from office), and has obvious mismanaged mental health issues.
She got 46% from mostly Tea Partiers.
If she would have won, the Republican party would have endorsed Lori Swanson (incumbent Democrat) and run ads against Sharon Anderson. If you're too crazy for the GOP, you're way too crazy for a constitutional office.
dauntless1Aug 12, 2010
f**k. Too crazy for the GOP is like being too stupid for the short bus.
iptunnellAug 12, 2010
Once again, huff-huff-pass shows its lack of journalistic integrity with the very first slide. Obama a winner? No dem candidate who actually wants to win will want his endorsement!
